Level cap is NOT 50...

Post » Thu Dec 15, 2011 6:47 pm

I just want to clear some things up with the levelling and perks, even though there is the achievement for level 50 and that it is the last 'level' achievement, doesn't make it the maximum level.
The actual maximum level is 81.
Level 1-50 is what people call the 'softcap', this means from level 50 and onward it gets progressively harder to level until level 81.

'At higher levels, leveling up happens much more slowly, however there is no discrete change upon reaching level 50. Level increases in Skyrim follow a formula. The maximum level is level 81 and is reached by increasing all skills to 100. With every skill mastered, the level progress meter will rest a little over halfway to '82', meaning it is not necessary to master every skill to achieve Level 81.
One implication of the leveling system is that although it is possible to create a character with 100 in all skills, it is not possible for one character to unlock all skill perks, unless a console command is used (player.addperk). In such a case, one may unlock every perk available, even at level 1. There are 251 total skill perks (including multi-point perks), but only around 80 of them can be unlocked by any given character.'

Text from Skyrim Wiki

As you probably read, you have to level every skill to 100 to achieve the maximum level basically.

Here are pictures also,

You can gain 80 skill perks in total, and there are 251 different perks to chose from, so you better pick wisely.

I probably know most of you already have heard about this, but there's still the small majority of people that don't know and make the occasional thread about it.
So I hope this made it clearer.

Yeah, this is well known and established as most of us have characters over level 50.

Yes yes, I understand most people know it now.
It's the fact that I don't observe these forums every minute watching for people that know about this.

Good to know :P BTW there always gonna be threads about this... when your thread is long gone... meaning: if someone ever wants to know about this they ask and THEN we answer.

This will serve as a good discussion topic though

For those that say they took out class definition when they took out attributes I pose to you this ^ You can no longer be a JoaT like in Oblivion/Morrowind. You must actually pick and choose what you want to do. No longer can you just up everything to 100 and be whatever you want. I say this adds to replay value.

Was it January when Todd said that level 50 would be softcap but you would be able to get levels after it? kind of old news... But good to know for those who didn't know about this.

Creature level cap I believe is 50 thou. So if you are killing everything at level 40... things ain't gonna get harder.

Thats what I always thought. The NPC cap is 50, your cap is ... all the skills at 100.

I'll go against most of the grain I guess. No, not *everybody* knows this, and no, *most* people don't have a character above level 50 (maybe most people that actually post here do, but there are many many people that don't post). I knew that we can level beyond 50, but I didn't know that we got perks beyond 50 perks... so that's great news for me :P and I'm already level 40!

Thanks!

Like you said not everyone trolls the forums all day, I for one did not know about the perks past level 50. I knew the level cap was around 80 but thought all perks stopped at 50. Seeing as I just hit level 41 today I was going to come looking for the answer in the next few days :)

So thanks for saving me that much :)

I used to think the cap was 50. Then I took an arrow to the knee.

But seriously, it's 81. It just gets harder as you progress past 50. I recently got my speech to 100 and I am saving the perks to see if I can perk it out.

50 is just the average level people will be at when they complete the game. you can go to 81, which requires all skills to be capped at 100.

They've already stated that level 50 is just a "soft cap" and that we'd be able to advance beyond it, albeit at a much-reduced pace.

We've known that forever. They called it a "soft cap" for a certain reason.
