It's not only a matter of a number, but more a matter of balancing. We pretty much already know about the level cap in Skyrim. 30 is enough with good balancing, but it won't be 30.

According to the GI article, there will be no level cap. However after the player reaches level 50, leveling will slow down and be much harder. So it's possible to have level 100 characters, the only thing holding you is that it's hard as hell to reach it.

Let me get this straight the Level cap is not 30? I dont mind if it is, I just rather it not for more game time and also Fallout 3 and New Vegas was too easy to max your character out unlike Morrowind, Oblivion etc.

Well you could in Oblivion but its really tedious, go to jail, lose skills, repeat until satisfied, replay until level 100

Nope, no 30 level cap. 50 will be a "soft" level cap, after which it will take longer to reach new levels.

The intended maximum level is 50. Past this point you will unlock no new perks and gaining experience will become very slow. However, as stated in the video, there is no programmed level cap (Except to maybe keep you from breaking into triple/quadruple digits where it messes up UI).

Well thats extrmemly better as I am ready to invest hundreds of hours with one character alone.

No level cap please. TES never had them to my knowledge, and should not have them in a future. While there where "natural" limits if you leveled everything, there was always a way around it if one wanted it bad enough, and that's how it should be, with everything else they changed if they added a hard coded level cap to boot, it would be to much.

1 kill for level 1, 2 kills for level 2, 4 kills for level 3, 8 kills for level 4 etc etc sound fair enough for you? ;) There is no level cap in it... :P

Actually at the rate he described it would take 562,949,953,421,312 kills to reach level 50.

You level up as you gain skills, so level cap is when you max out all your skills.

Seeing as every skill you level contributes to you leveling up in Skyrim, I really hope players who decide to level up every skill won't be able to also pick every perk.

The level cap should be in the 50's for sure. Although hopefully the enemies don't have 1 million HP's and take 5 minutes to kill.

The perks are intersting but until I get more info I'll have to go with 50+. I don't think it will matter though your probably still going to get a broken character at some point.

Is 50+ even a level cap? I mean, the level isn't technically capped, so why call it a level cap?

As for the subject at hand, I prefer it this way. Elder Scrolls games take a long time to even reach level 10 (something that can be reached in Fallout 3 in like a day and a half), so why even have a cap in the first place. If they want to invest the thousands of hours of their life to reach like level 75 or something, let them. Hell knows it took me 284 hours and 376 game days to level up all of my major skills and some of my minors, and I was still level 38.

I just hope they don't take the Fallout approach to leveling rate, because the Elder Scrolls won't feel nearly as epic if that will be the case.

I am wondering what the engine hardcoded level cap will be though. Oblivion's was 255, so I imagine Skyrim's will only go higher than that. And again, that's not technically a cap, because by the time most people got all of their major skills maxed out, they were like level 40. You'd have to go to prison A LOT if you wanted to reach 255.

You level up as you gain skills, so level cap is when you max out all your skills.

They took out this system in exchange for the Fallout EXP traditional RPG system
