Level 20 cap?

Post » Wed May 18, 2011 8:09 pm

I have read a lot of posts about people not liking the level 20 cap. But the more that I think about it, the better it sounds. The level cap is per character, and if you multiply 20 x 10 characters you get 200. Plus I could see myself retiring a character or two for new ones later on (When I understand the game better), so the level cap is +200. What are your thoughts? Loving Brink.

The level cap never really crossed my mind since i don't seem to care. When you make a new character you get to keep all the weapons and unlocks anyways so its not like you have to level up to unlock them again or play the challenges again.

when i was in cod (was my first shooter i hate cod and dont play it anymore) all my friends would act like aholes to get me to prestige so i did and it was pointless after unlocking everything to trade it in its such a grind. level 20 doesnt take but 1-3 days but once your there you have everything and if you wanna still level up you have 9 more guys. though i wish after 20 you could still unlock stuff but its fun just to lplay the game for fun or too win.

That, plus respecing is -1Lv. So really, if you're indecisive, its an infinite level cap. Lol

Edit: Actually, I wouldnt mind just like a "Level up" system after 20, just to chart how much more EXP I've gained (Dunno if there is one of these at lv.20 or not) (Not to get more ability points, etc)

I don't mind the level cap. I haven't gotten there yet so it doesn't affect me. I wouldn't mind a higher cap with more skills to choose from though.

I don't like it because it pigeons holes you into classes.

If they added more levels, we would require more abilities, and the ones that we have are already perfectly balanced.... so.... no thanks for a bigger level cap

That is the point. SD made it so you couldn't make a character that was fully upgrade in all class choices.
But you do get to make 10 character, instead of just one character and 5 to 10 classes.

I play 4 days now And didn′reach level 20 (I have two chars one lvl 18 one lvl 11) So I think you don′t reach lvl 20 to easy and I′m happy, that its not to hard to max out the fighters

Yes, but they were trying to make a dynamic, class based shooter where people would switch classes based on the current situation and objectives. Since you can't change characters in game you either have to; a. Leave the game and switch, b. change classes but realize you don't have many good abilities, putting you at an obvious disadvantage.

No it doesn't.

If you're willing to sacrifice some of a specialist's utility, you can take a few of the more critical abilities for each class.

The level cap only forces you to think carefully about which is more important - direct effectiveness or versatility - I was planning to dual-spec Operative/Medic, but I've actually added a couple of Soldier abilities to the list I plan to buy as I level up.

You are at an obvious disadvantage if you choose to go to a class for the good of the team but don't have many abilities. Seeing as how the game was designed to promote teamwork this seems counter productive. It also makes people less likely to switch classes for the good of the team at all.

Well you are kinda off.
They wanted you to work as a team. Not everyone as one class depending on the main objective and then switching when you get to the next objective.

As there are 5-8 players per team (depending on how you have it set up) you are not all gonna play as the same maxed out class to take one objective, and then all switch at once to take the next that is just dumb. The want to challenge you.
Also i said there was 5-8 per team, remember they might take the objective not you, so get use to SUPPORTING YOUR TEAM!
This isn't call of duty... argh i hate saying that line, so overused.

And what do you think is the best approach when all the soldiers on a team collectively decide to not complete the objectives? Because staying medic and healing them all does not seem like it. Splash Damager is encouraging class diversity by having buffs that don't stack, but penalizing people who want to play the objective seems like a poor choice.

This isn't Call of Duty, what do you supposed it is then? I seem to recall it starting with something like a B.. but I guess it could be an M, oh life's little mysteries.

I've played matches with 8 people and there was only 1 medic. I wasn't going to change to a medic because I have zero skills in medic with my character. It makes no sense to change to a class that you're not leveled in. So what happens if you're in a match and everybody is an operative/soldier? There's not going to be any medics and you're probably going to lose. Makes playing with randoms not fun because they all have random skills. I played with friends and we created classes so that we were well balanced and we won a lot. When I played with randoms, I lost a lot.

if you have a coordinated group of friends with a couple of single-spec players and a couple of 2- or 3-class players, you'll have people who can do one job brilliantly, and a few who can cover whatever's needed at the time.

I'd say a maximum of 2 full-specialists on a team of 5, but you could get away with up to 4 on a full 8-man team.

But of course, your playstyle partly depends on the reliability of your teammates - if you're working with bots who are competent, or if you're alongside a team of friends who work well alongside your preference, a skilled specialist will thrive. If not, then you'll need to build up a minimum of 2 classes, and may want to add a few points to a third, just in case.

Maybe start playing with "GOOD TEAM PLAYERS" instead of bots and moron people.
Pretty simple isn't it?

It's one of the few parts of this game I really like. Having one general progression (ex. Halo Reach) is as boring as hell because to get any length they sacrifice the speed of your progression. But here we have length and a sense of "oh, I'm actually accomplishing something with this", and it's something I'd rather not the developers touch one bit.

Don't worry about it. You level fast and you can unlock all of the weapons pretty quickly with all of the attachments before even playing MP or the Campaign for that matter. Do all of the challenges first and by the time you're done with them you'll be level 5 at the very least. Also you'll have some decent skill considering how difficult the challenges can be. :)

What do you guys/girls think about a graveyard option in the character selection to both pay respect to retired troopers, and to see what character ability combinations you have tried and buried. (Maybe only level 20 characters that have been deleted show up in the graveyard)

Well, I can see myself deleting characters that I am not happy with for new ones when I get a better hang of the game. Thought it might be nice to have some kind of a graveyard option in the character selection area to keep track of characters that I have deleted. Some kind of a reference to see ability combinations that I have tried and failed.

Yeah, I suppose, like a character archive.
