LEVEL EDITOR FOR CRYSIS2

Post » Mon Oct 19, 2009 10:45 am

Is there any word on a Level/Map Editor similar to the Far Cry series Editor for Crysis 2 on PS3 and Xbox? I understand that you may purchase CryEngine 3 for using the sandbox for professional game design on console now which is amazing by itself. However, for those of us wishing to create and share maps a watered down version of the CryEngine 3 or a Level Editor similar to the Far Cry series editors would be sweet and add massive longevity and value to this release.

There is no level editor for consoles. You do the level editing on PC and it's streamed to the console via Live-Create. You also need a licence from Sony/Microsoft to develop on their platform which is only going to be available at the professional studio level.

Map Editors should be standard in all Crytek games. Period.

The last console game Crytek made was Far Cry Instincts: Predator and that had an awesome level editor on 360, so it is obviously on their radar. There has been no official announcement about the tech included in the console game. Never say never.

@Enfadel - It doesn't say it in so many words, but if you've looked into what "Live Create" is, you'll understand the console version is very unlikely to come with an editor. The whole thing about Live Create is that you do develop the levels on PC and it streams to the console, ala WYSIWYP:

"The award-winning engine developer will show the powerful new “CryENGINE? LiveCreate?” system. CryENGINE? LiveCreate? adds real-time multi-platform editing of game content to Crytek’s original What You See Is What You Play CryENGINE?3 Sandbox? editor, allowing genuine, synchronized cross platform game development for the first time.

“CryENGINE? LiveCreate? allows developers to work with a single editor, but see and play the results in real-time on PC, PS3 and Xbox360, hooked up to a single dev PC. The engine takes care of the conversion and optimization of assets in real-time; enables instant, cross-platform changes to any part of game creation and as a result materially increases the speed and significantly reduces the risk of multiplatform development. Multiple teams are no longer necessary for simultaneous cross platform development – all you need now is much larger desks!” said Carl Jones, Director of Business Development for CryENGINE."

In the first Crysis my favorite part certainly was the Sandbox 2 Editor. It gave so much options in ways to create maps and just have fun.
From what I have seen I can already tell that Sandbox 3 will be amazing.

anyone see the tech trailer? they had the editor being used on ps3 and 360, at least it certainly looked like it. its referred to as "Live Create", assuming that is the editor.

What makes people think Crytek made Far Cry: Instincts? I mean, it's 100% of Ubisoft Montreal's production, just like Far Cry 2. All of those Far Cry's made after the first one are developed completely by Ubisoft. Crytek games so far have been PC exclusives, and i think they're not going to make a console editor.

it would be awesome to get a editor for consoles, but if they didnt it would be really cool if we could get some of the ones from pc that people made, and crytek brought them to consoles that would still be pretty cool. :)

No, that shows Live-Create, running on a PC, streaming to both 360 and PS3 at the same time. That's not someone in Sandbox3 with a six-axis controller.
