Level 73 legendary DiD character down

Post » Tue Nov 05, 2013 7:28 pm

So I was doing Neloth's quests, float up the tower, see an NPC fall down it as I go up. Foolishly turn around and drop down to see what just happened and died to fall damage. The NPC is essential and alive but kneeling.

This is the kind of stuff that gets you when you've been playing too long. :/

WTB slowfall enchant.

I had Become Ethereal shout equipped too, just didn't use it 'cause I was having a bad moment of dumb curiosity.

I really really hate Talvas Fathryon right now.

You should reload. I wouldn't count that as a death.

That's not a DiD Death, that is a Brain Fart.

Unlucky. That seems a bit of an unfair death though so I think you should carry on with that character... if it auto saved as you entered the mushroom tower thingy.

My current DiD character is also level 73... I hope she doesn't die.

Sorry if I sound stupid for asking this but, what does DiD mean?

Yeah it's not very epic, and I forgot you couldn't shout while falling, and there's even a little floaty thing going up/down but of course only the bit at the top lets you drift - I tried using both E to ride it after jumping and shouting near the bottom but by then it was too late both had to be done before jumping not after.

But still, dead is still dead and the game was to the point I was only playing it to kind of "finish" the character anyway. I can condole myself that I saved myself the skill grind to level cap.

DiD = Dead is Dead = Your character dies you're done with that character and have to start over.

Oh, I will have to try that, but not in Legendary. No way I can survive without dying after a couple hours.

I guess I'm the only one here who thinks that player mistake is a legit DiD death. It's not a game glitch, there was no real world event that distracted you, it shouldn't be dismissed just because it isn't epic enough.

Anyway, kudos for making it to 73. I wouldn't even try to play DiD on Legendary, let alone make it anywhere near such a high level.

It is slightly glitchy AI that he'd fall off the elevator thing and I still think it's dumb you can't shout while falling, but the game is full of glitchy AI and design problems and so on, and it was my fault for jumping without thinking first. The glitch wasn't what killed my character directly, it was me reacting to it the wrong way.

I feel your pain Hermit. Well done for getting to level 73 on legendary DID though, that's a great achievement.

Well, in that case it's up to you to decide if it was more of a distracting glitch or rather your character making a reckless decision. Heck, you can always bend the rules and roleplay that your character shouted in mid-fall and survived. ;) It certainly should be possible to shout in this situation.

I feel your pain. I would look at it the same way. Much the same as if I was cursorily peering over a cliff's edge and just got too close. I should have been paying closer attention.

Epic? No, but accidents do happen and people die from them all the time. I have lost characters by panicking and running for my life only to run straight into a trap or the billowing fire cast form a Mage.

Now, if the bad AI of an NPC ( Barbas ) pushes you to your death, then that's a little different.

Good points. In the end it really comes down to one asking themselves... "Do I feel dirty?"

Nah I'm not keeping it, it's a really fail/dumb death brought on by a funky occurrence but it was still my fault.

In retrospect I wonder if I could've read a Black Book and teleported myself out of the air.

I would not call it a fail with a character that got Level 73 without dying on Legendary.

I consider any death on DiD setting as death even if it is a glitch is still a death.

Great job on getting that far.

That type of death would still ruin a DiD for me, unfortunately. It's lame as hell, but I play on PS3 so I've had countless deaths due to shouts malfunctioning. Still though, there was always a way I could do the fight where I didn't need to rely on shouts to live, so......

My current legendary guy is level 48 and I would hate to see him suffer a similar fate.....I'd rather at least get my skull caved in by a worthy opponent

I'd just go with it because that's hilarious. I've made the same mistake of trying to shout Become Ethereal while in mid air.
