Level Up System

Post » Wed Mar 09, 2011 11:35 am

So how should we Level Up i think it should be different than Oblivion because when you sleep you don't get Knowledge and won't get better at anything so it doesn't make alot sense a little cause you meditate what you have learned Maybe when you Level up The game pause and brings you to level up menu Maybe by Pressing a Button(Key) and you get a level up Menu or Maybe By Reading a Book that's a way to get knowledge and be better in a skill or it should just Level up Automatic

Or any other Idea

Let me sleep on it! Just kidding. I never really understood the reason you had to sleep to raise your level. If you had enough experience by actually doing things then why need to sleep? I would rather just click a button and go to the level up screen, if not in combat or hostiles nearby. I wouldn't want automatic or it pops up during combat as it would be an interuption I wouldn't want.

Periods much?

And Sleeping to gain levels is the most realistic way of doing it, and it should stay that way.

On the contrary, I say sleeping makes the most sense. You fight, you use spells, you perform alchemy and smithing and all that, but sleeping on it and waking up to reflect on all of that is where the level up takes place, and rightfully so. After you sleep, you feel rejuvenated. You feel better than ever.

I'm torn between sleeping and pressing a button and the level up screen appears. I like sleeping because it gives me a sense of realism, like if you work out really hard one day, you won't get stronger that day, you have to rest and then you'll get stronger. But sometimes finding a bed can be a hassle so I also like the option of just pressing a button.

This. However, those with insomnia will hate you forever for this XD A feeling we may never, ever experience >.>

I don't like it automatic, in case someone wants to delay their leveling for some reason.
Sleeping is good. It's sort of like, my body has to rest and adjust, and my mind has to meditate on what was learned.

OK, I can see that. Still, I would prefer the click button/level up menu appears. But what you said makes sense and I never had a problem with it in OB unless I couldn't find a bed and had to travel back to a city while in the middle of a quest or exploring.

As an atheist, if there are any mention of "Gods" in Skyrim, I'm just not going to buy the game. Oblivion was ruined because of the Nine Divines.

That's how we did it playing AD&D, when the Cleric wanted to acquire a new spell.
May not work for all character types though.

Woah thats a little extreme. I'm cool with you being an atheist and all but in reality, religion is everywhere whether its real or not. If anything the Nine Divines helped me get a better grasp of the culture in Cyrodiil.

My character is an atheist. Even though he clearly communicates with the Gods during Daedric quests and the world is based around divine magic. He's very devout.

There was an Oblivion mod that was wonderful and made roleplaying incredibly fun while also offering a solution to that problem: the portable campsite, including a bedroll.

That's silly considering the gods in TES are undeniably real. I'm an atheist too but I love that gods are part of TES. The main villain of Skyrim is the god of time, Alduin. Sorry, buddy.

Have you ever noticed that if you study the day before a test, you remember the material much better than if you study just the day of the test? You're brain is actually VERY active during sleep.

I hope this is tongue in cheek. I could understand someone of a more fundamentalist bent not playing games that feature or present other gods in the way that TES does.... but I'd be surprised that one whose faith is nothingness would hold such a dogmatic stance about what they presume to be false.

TES lore is 100% wrapped up in gods and other mystical gobbledygook.

Ok so it dont work for aethist characters and it may not work well for melee or stealth characters. So lets change it a little.

Go to a shrine (im calling it a shrine cause i dont know what to call a slab with pillars surrounding it), meditate which is much like sleeping, of course youre gonna have to press a button to activate it. a highlander type animation sequence starts with lots of power stuff like flames and lightning being transfered to your character. make whatever choices you have to for your level gain.

I kind of think it's a bit silly to be discussing the most "realistic" way to level up when the very act of doing so has always seemed very artificial to me, to begin with.

Then you won't be playing a single game for the rest of your life :flamethrower:

On topic, I like the traditional 'rest and meditate on what you have learned' system. More realism.
