Leveling and Perks.

Post » Mon Oct 10, 2011 6:25 am

I was considering the fact that there are so many perks and we only get one per level, I think that when the game becomes available, someone should mod the game so we can pick more perks per level. Like, even 3 would be okay. But 1, I just feel it will make getting your character in the direction you want him/her, really slow, even with the quick leveling in the beginning.

Like, when I played Oblivion, I always liked playing someone more experienced and would bump myself up about 5 levels, so I could be more of the hero I roleplayed myself to be; imagining I was in the prison wrongfully, and happened to come from a distant land where I was already well known and established. This especially worked when I used the mod that started me on a ship.

Those wouldn't be mods I myself would make, but I am sure someone will. I generally mod to make the game harder, more realistic, or adding in functionality that should have been included in the beginning.

you could probably do it yourself you just have to find the variable that controls the number of perks you get per level, it is more than likely a short value so that will help you with your search

Three perks per level? that's insane. One perk is just fine.

Well, normally in Oblivion I would just hit the console command key, and input the advlevel and alter skill levels, etc. I'm not exactly skilled when it comes to modding. But for this, I don't necessarily want to start at a higher level or manipulate my level to get my desired beginning, so I imagined that having a larger selection to choose from per level, would make things easier playing through the game the first time.

Guess you could say I've never liked the idea of cheating, before I'd even played the game once. I made that mistake in Oblivion, where I had so much gold, it just kinda broke the game and became too easy. Then again, I blame that vampire who wouldn't stop giving me gold for curing his wife, every time I talked to him. XD

Not when you consider there are over 250 perks, and we basically slow down our leveling all together by 50. That means you only get 50 perks in one playthrough, and it’s unlikely you can backtrack. 20 more if you consider devs saying the possible cap being level 70.

My goal is to be stealthy, an archer and a sword and board warrior. I’d like to actually work on all three, instead of having to pick and choose a single one each level, slowing down what I enjoy playing as. Plus, with the radiant story, I want it to acknowledge that too, instead of it guessing for the next 10 levels.

I don't think it is a bad idea to increase the number of perks. Most people are going to hit 50 perks which is fairly sparse and wont really handle some fairly basic concepts like a thief who can fight, it might not handle a pure mage, and maybe not even a fighter who wants to craft. Getting it so you don't have to grind up the perks in order to fill basic concepts seems fine to me. Grinding should be done to make you overpowered not to flesh out a basic character concept.

There is no "cheat" section for "Skyrim". Plus, improving the gameplay mechanics is not cheating. As I said before, I'm not looking to be overpowered; I'm looking to have more options available per level. That isn't cheating.

there will be and more perks per level is like asking to have HP, mana, and stamina boost every level up instead of just one type boost, its cheating :P

but if it floats ur boat go for it its a single player game, personally cheats ruin the game for me :(

1 offensive skill fully fleshed out (destruction/bow being the main ones)

1 defensive skill fully fleshed out (armour/alteration)

1+ Support skill/s fully fleshed out (here there is a lot to choose from! All other magic schools + alchemy/enchanting)

Going for 1 support means you will be around 30-40 perks here, presuming 10-14 perks per tree. Now you can spend the rest extra little things, like one type of melee weapon, some speech/trading skills skills, getting efficient (reduced casting cost) in another school of magic and so on.

That seems like a lot for one character to me. You have mastered one type of melee weapon + fully mastered bow/destruction (or block), you have mastered one defensive system (armour type or alteration) and mastered a support skill (another school of magic or one of the utilities) and THEN gone on to dabble in something else.

Of course, you might just want MOAR, and I have no doubt that is possible and easy enough to get, but I do not think the current rate will make it difficult to give your character a clear and powerful identity.

That's not at all the same thing. I want to be a swordsman but I want to also be able to craft armour. Does that mean I have to wait an entire level to have both? Or, what if I find a cool new bow? Do I have to put off perking another skill I wanted earlier, just so I can be more accurate? Ahglock said it best.

Definitely raise some good points as to why this current perk system doesn't really work. I mean sure, I get that they want us to figure out who we are over time, but I'm not a newbie to the series. I know my playstyle, and that shouldn't have to be stunted.
