Leveling Sneak.

Post » Sun Dec 11, 2011 1:22 am

Anyone have any tips on leveling sneak? I started a new char and it was insanely hard to sneak in the beginning as my bows took about three hits to kill. Does it get any easier to sneak? It was annoying to have Draugr(sp?) spawn right in front of me. I could kill them, but my sneak skill isn't getting much love.

when exploring ruins, try to sneak up on "sleeping" draugrs and hit them with your weapon. gives a boost to your sneaking skills. don't forget to activate the thief stone of course.

so far as I know it works like kinda like oblivion, so just stock up on patience and sneak all the time, even when walking across the land.

Find an NPC that isn't hostile to you and that won't die, then back it up against the wall so it can't move and proceed to get the 3x damage multiplier on him while in sneak mode. At lower levels you will level up in one hit.

If you haven't gotten out of the tutorial yet, then you should do this on the guy that escorts you out of the dungeon. Simply wait until you get to the part with the bear and proceed to do the above method.

Remember that running while sneaking on low levels will get you caught, you need to go slowly. I'm finding sneak levels up quickly, it's my highest skill. I have to go out hunting regularly to make sure my archery stays close to it.

Best way to level Sneak is to enter Sneak mode and walk up to the bad guys and then stab them. Or if there's someone sleeping in a bed just sneak up to them and walk in a circle around them. Basically it when ever the game runs a detection check on your character you get a sneak XP.

You bow sneak attack is only levelling sneak via the sneak attack.

Edit: BTW in first dungeon my little newbie thief could walk past all the sleeping draugrs without them waking, didn't even realize they where mobs at first! (so it possible for you to walk past them all and finish the dungeon with out killing them if you wish).

Try to get as many melee hits in with daggers while in sneak, melee sneak attacks give a LOT to leveling sneak

Obviously go with Thief stone and light armour (your boots are especially important). When in a dungeon - sneak whenever you are entering a room. Keep an eye on the sneak-eye in the middle of the screen. My character is a 21st level scout/archer, my sneak is around 50 and I have a pair of boots that add a bonus - I'll occasionally have guys running right past me to engage Lydia in melee, while I stay in the shadow and shoot them in the back. Also bandit forts and other open spaces are good for levelling sneak when you are an archer; simply creep around and snipe the guards on the walls. I really enjoy my character and this style of play - hope you will too!

Sneak levels up very quickly as long as you always use it when near enemies, my char is at level 31 with 98 in sneak while most of my other main skills are at around 60-70.

Ignore everyone else, this is the most efficient way of doing it.

Thanks! But how won't I be detected if I'm right next to them? Also, wouldn't I gain a bounty or be attacked?

Early on, hold down the walk key, as sneaking in the default 'run' mode makes you easier to detect. And have lots of patience. But it lays off :) Right now my level 28 bosmer can one-shot a Draugr Death Overlord with a sneak power attack (all but the last stealth perk, some one handed damage perks, and the Shrouded armor backstab bonus).

At the end of the tutorial when you leave the cave, If you follow the road & stay with the guy from the tutorial, he will talk to you about it when you walk past it, as it's on the road otw to Riverwood.

As to levelling up sneak, make sure your crouched when entering quest areas like caves etc.. if you fire an arrow an the enemy from distance & they go into search mode, and you remain undetected, you also get sneak bonus.

Sneak is for me one of the easiest skills to level up. I sneak constantly in dungeons and my skill increases a bit too fast I think.

As others have said make sure you get the theif stone

You can get quite high (depending on how easy you want sneaking to be) by right at the beginning in the intro, keep hitting the guy by the door for sneak hits. This is where he asks you to look in a chest to find a weapon (don't go to the chest until your finished with sneak leveling). I don't really like doing this to much, but its the best way by far.

I'm trying to level by attacking an NPC, but I'm Not leveling at all.

Edit: Im getting it now.

Are dual wield daggers viable at close range? I know I won't be able to sneak through everything.

Only if you have 2 really strong daggers, like the blade of woe, merunes razor, or the blade of sacrifice. But if you plan on leveling sneak and getting all the perks for it, you can instant kill many enemies with one hit with 1 iron dagger.

When i am walking to another town I try to find someone to follow. You follow them in sneak mode and by the time you get to your destination you will have raised a few levels of sneak.
