Leveling Spells & Endurance

Two questions :

1.If I create a spell that uses two different schools will it level both skills at the same time ?
Example : Shield self & Dispel target, will it level Alteration and Mysticism,or will it only level the school it says at the bottom of the spell ?

2.Does using a shield level Block and Heavy/Light armor ?

1. No. The following quote from UESP wiki applies:

'For multi-effect spells, the requirement will be in the school of the single effect with the highest base Magicka cost. (Therefore in a spell with four alteration effects and one illusion effect, illusion could easily be the school of the spell). Also, the experience you gain for casting this spell will only be in the primary school.'

2. I'm not exactly sure. I seem to recall that if you are blocking with a shield, then only block will rise. I used to lower my shield to pump my armor skill. I'm not positive, so I would be happy to defer to someone who knows for sure. Let me give you some relevant UESP wiki quotes and you can see what you think:

'Your block skill increases by 1.25 experience points each time you successfully block an attack, whether using a shield or a weapon, regardless of the amount of damage blocked.'

'Your heavy armor skill increases by 1.25 experience points for every hit taken (assuming the area hit is wearing heavy armor), whether due to melee or archery combat.
To maximize heavy armor skill increases, you should wear an almost complete set of heavy armor (boots, cuirass, gauntlets, greaves, helmet but no shield). Let an enemy hit you repeatedly without blocking and your skill will increase. If you block using your hands, both your heavy armor and Block skills will increase.

If you block while holding a shield and wearing armor, your armor will take damage but your armor skill won't rise.

Ahah! I thought that was the case. It has been quite awhile since I had a character who used a shield. Thanks for the wise clarification, Mara! :icecream:
