40 levels for Fallout 4

Post » Thu Nov 26, 2015 9:11 pm

If you squint at the perk chart in the Fallout 4 tease image, the perks seem to be grouped in such a way as to indicate 40 levels.

You start at level 1, and going across the top first, the first perks to unlock are the SPECIAL perks, where you can put a point into Strength (Lvl 2), and then Perception & Endurance (Lvl 3), and so on, leading to 40 levels, as there are lines around groups where two or three perks might become available at certain levels.

There are 7 perks per row, except the last 2, which seem to have 8 per row for the last 2, if you look closely. However, even if it is 7 per last two, the number of 40 levels as divided by those "downpipe" lines still stands.

Anyway, this leads to 40 levels. This assumes that every level unlocks a group of perk (at least 1), not every 2 levels.

I hope the game has at least 40 levels, 'cause I was maxed out pretty quickly in FO3...

They could have 20 levels and span the progression so that it takes more time to max out than 100 levels. Level cap basically only effects perk/level-up bonus distribution, not completion time.

Unless you're asking under the premise that F4 has the same leveling speed as F3 and NV, which gives us a basis to understanding your unit of measurement.

In which case, 40 would be cool.

Maybe they should include the Skyrim "legendary" system when you reach lvl 100 on a skill they should make it "legendary" with special bonusses.

It is in the back of the garage in the main picture of the fallout 4 website. Here's a picture from reddit user OdahP http://i.imgur.com/JeBQ1wU.jpg

Here's an example of the first few rows, showing levels, and known perks (read left to right, top to bottom). As you can see, level 8 has two perks, level 9 has 3, etc.

2 strength 3 perception endurance 4 charisma 5 intelligence agility 6 luck
7 ?? 8 infiltrator toughness 9 master trader child at heart gunslinger 10 fortune finder
11 ?? ?? 12 lead belly ?? ?? 13 commando scrounger

I imagine they will do like New Vegas did, set the level cap initially low then have each DLC raise it and add a few perks to encourage people to buy it so that in the end it's around 50.

or like they did with fallout 33 and add a few levels with a dlc. Though once I got to 30 i felt super over powered had almost everything at 100. I hope they make it les points to spend and only get a perk every other level

No. Just.. no. That feature was one of the most idiotic things implemented in Skyrim.

Oh that's weird.

I see that Life Giver is making a return. I never used it anyway, so, okay.

I hope it's 99 levels, that way we don't have to worry about a level cap. I just hope that skill points are balanced this time around, hated how you could get all skills to 100 so easily in Fallout 3 and with New Vegas after the level caps.

Clearly the best way to fix the easy attainability of maxed skills is to increase the level cap further.

I dont mind how many levels they add as long as I'm not contractually obligated to level up there and then.

Skill level shouldn't start at 15 or stop at 100. Skills start at 0, then modified for attribute bonus to give you a base chance, and then should level infinitely with increased difficulty at higher level. All this BS about max skill level svcks.

I'm hoping they do what NV did and only grant perks every 2 levels. A level cap of 40 or 50 would work well with that, only allowing the player 20-25 perks per game.

I hope traits make a comeback, too.

When Beth was asked what were the most important lessons they learned from FO3, they said: "Don't put an ending or a level cap into the game."

In other words, there will probably be no level cap this time around. At most, Level 40 is the last level that unlocks some kind of perk.

I honestly wouldn't be surprised if that poster just took the images from the perks so that they could whip up a quick piece of background flavor and that it doesn't really mean any thing at all.

its to be expected, I don't fault them for it. especially since some developers actually do hide stuff in trailers. but from experience I've learned not to buy into ANY THING from a trailer for a BGS game. I'm not refuting any theories really, I just won't believe in them until an employee says "there will be X"

I guess I have matured some because back round when Skryim was in this stage of speculation I used to get into pretty big arguments with this one guy who insisted pole arms were going to be in game... although not mature enough to feel smug knowing I was soooo right :P

The skill system in Fallout 2 was really good. I wish they would implement it into this game where the skill cap is 300, but beyond certain points it requires more skill points to increase the skill- http://fallout.wikia.com/wiki/Fallout_2_skills

Then they can give 70 levels for all I care because a system like Fallout 2 would require specialization with certain skills instead of being a master of everything.

I was fine with 30 and one skill point every 2 levels in NV. By the end of FO3 I felt kinda like a god but in NV I had to pick be more careful with what skills I picked.

Also I didn't mind the legendary system in Skyrim. It gave me a excuse not to try and max out every skill especially if I'm not going to use it.

I agree, except the problem in 1 (and 2) was that you eventually had so many skill points that all your skills got maxed out. By not putting a cap on skill levels, and keep providing bonuses for increased skill levels, you can truly specialize and not have every character end up as a Jack of All Trades, Master of All. If I want to play a gunslinger with 5000 in guns and <10 in everything else, I can do that and shoot the dike off a bloatfly at 600 yards with my .38, but not be able to turn on a computer.

First off we do not know how they plan for you to gain perks. It may be like F3 or they may be auto granted with various combinations of skill%, level, and SPECIAL value. Or they may be quest/ achievement rewards. Or some combination of the above.
