Well they could make an area above a city where if you pass through, you are loaded into the cities worldspace. Like entering the oblivion gates by passing through them like some modder did by changing a flag somewhere. Or at least have a magic field (invisible walls with a message when you touch them) repelling people flying in above the city.

Yes, I want levitation back. I also want the quoted section as well.

As for the open cities problem that was in Oblivion: Just do it like New Vegas. Every city except for a few of them are open.

Gimme mark/recall. Quit holding our hands Bethesda, we're grown ups you know. We don't need you to babysit us with green arrow quest markers, red ticks on our compass, point and click travel, etc. Let the babies whine about it, or at least give us the option to turn that crap off.

The only reason levitate wouldn't be present is to satisfy the lowest common denominator in graphics technology: consoles. I sincerely hope Bethesda starts taking their PC fanbase a little more seriously this time around.

I had the same exact topic a while back the majority of people said yes but a modifed version not morrowind style was the fall damage that gets you or a cliff racer i i want a modified version of it like floating a little at first and if you master it you can fly high for a bit and dodge.

No, if yes they need to sacrifice the details in the cities, which I don't want to happen.

Couldn't agree more. I started playing Arena today and I thought I wouldn't be able to get used to it, you have to find everything on your own. But tah-dah! I can, so screw those babies. Let us turn that damn thing off.

I think it would be pretty sick to have flying carpets in every major city?

Naturally I want Levitate, considering that there will very likely be Mountains, Mountains Everywhere.

Unless of course they use those mountains to prevent us from entering a large portion of the map that they are intentionally keeping unvisitable so they can charge us money for a DLC later on. :stare:

Definitely. It would be great to have more 'vertical' dungeons.

But it would also pretty much require cities to be 'open' again like in Morrowind, and I don't see that happening.

Yes, I loved Morrowind's vertical dungeons, including those grottoes.

But Levitation is an ability that can be abused quite easily with Monster AI who do not know how to cope players who fly above their reach and pelt them with arrows, or when you simply fly to the place that you had to solve some problems before you could reach them.

Yes. Yes! YES!!!

One of the first things that seriously bothered me about Oblivion was the fact that cities were instanced. Not only did it lead to the exclusion of levitation, but it also ensured that my unlawful characters could no longer sneak into town or hop over walls, but had to walk right past the guards through the front door >.<.

I'd gladly welcome some loading times if it makes a more Morrowind-like system possible.

I wouldn't even mind a compromise. Remember how you couldn't levitate in Mournhold? Well imagine if levitation existed, but all cities had such anti-levitation effects around them so that you couldn't levitate within ~100ft of them.

I'd give up levitation in and around cities if I could get it back everywhere else.

Levitate was probably my favourite spell in Morrowind, being able to fly over Vvardenfell whenever I didn't feel like fighting (except against Cliffracers) and allowing me to get to hard-to-reach places. I hope that Levitate makes it to Skyrim, as well as teleportation spells, since IMO climbing out of massive dungeons after you've cleared them is quite a chore.

A dragon mount would also be great, and hopefully Bethesda would put them in (if it fits with the lore of the game) given the popularity of the Dragon mount mods in Morrowind and Oblivion.

I'd like to see it, but I don't expect it. You float 10 feet above the ground and the AI has a heart attack.

The idea of turning that crap off is an interesting one... Do you think they would have some kind of fast travel service to take you in between towns still? Like a carriage or maybe even a bobsled?

Anyone who said no has clearly never played Morrowind...finding secret passages in caves, exploring the Telvanni cities, using it as a tactic in battle, shortcuts when travelling et cetera.

I completely agree, not adding an ability to toggle the quest arrow on/off would just be a sign of laziness on Bethesda's part as it can't be such a hard thing to do.

Levitate would also make accessing the mountains of Skyrim much easier, especially if we have to visit any Greybeards up there.

Levitation is one of the things I missed most from Morrowind in Oblivion. So, if it is in ayway possible, then yes, please bring it back again.
Especially in a mountainous area as Skyrim, the ability to fly would be awesome.

So, levitate was incredibly cool in Morrowind, but unfortunately did not work in Oblivion (or Mournhold for that matter) because the cities were implemented into the game in such a way that they were a totally separate area from one another. I thought the way Morrowind handled cities was incredibly cool, because you would never have to walk through a door to get into Vivec. If cities were handled this way, it could open up some interesting possibilities with what Skyrim could do with them. For example, it could increase the number of backwater towns that are there for atmosphere more than anything. In my opinion, towns like Khull, Vos and Hla Oad are what gave Morrowind its sense of big-ness, a sense that you really are in a living, breathing world, that Oblivion unfortunately lacked (except for maybe Hackdirt :P ).

On a separate note, Skyrim could also handle towns like Fallout 3 did, and make it so that you have to walk through a door to get into a town like Megaton, but simply walk across a bridge to get to Big Town or The Republic of Dave.

The only downfall of having a totally seamless environment is that it really wouldn't be totally seamless. The devs would probably have to put in load times here and there to ensure things like the integrity of the graphics and draw distance. While I am tolerant to this sort of thing, perhaps the rest of the gaming community is not.

In any case, I got totally sidetracked in my excited stupor and really should just ask the question, do you think that levitate is worth the extra load times here and there?

Yes

A definite YES. No more secluded world-spaces, that′s what I′m hoping for. MW was great in that respect.

Aside from what I personally think, the way they did towns in Oblivion is because it is much easier and faster to have 'em in diffrent cells. I do hope they'll do it it in Skyrim too for the sake of performance (since I do expect HUGE towns and overall landmass).

From personal side, I hope there will be no levitation. In Morrowind I only ever used it for Telvanni places I couldn't reach, until my Acrobatics were high enough, anyway. Most other reports of levitation usage I saw were for cheap fighting tricks so that enemy couldn't reach you. It was a nice concept, but wasn't really useful aside from those fighting cheap tricks. (when I think of it actually, it does sound like one dirty way a Telvanni wizard would fight).
