IF levitation is in this game...

Post » Sat May 28, 2011 12:18 pm

I can only assume that IF levitation is in this installment that:

a) animations will look more like someone flying/hovering and
B) NPC's will be able to use the spell when they need to as well.

I think this could create some very fun battles if they do the physics and AI right.

Imagine hurling fireballs each other in the air and the flaming corpse of the defeated falling 50 feet into a lake, followed by the satisfying "hiss" of fire being extinguished in the water and a splash that takes into account the the height that this person fell from.

I dont think its gonna happen, but a man can dream can't he?

I'd just like to say that I'm horrified by the sight of Dragonball Z occupying the same thread as Skyrim. How could you do that to Skyrim?

No, no way, not a chance in hell, no way hosay, never ever, hell no, nada. I bet there is more ways and metaphors to describe how i feel, but you all get the point anyways.

Not a soul in the world wants Dargonball Z style combat, unless youre a robot with latex skin or possibly spawned on this earth by satan.

For the love off God let there not be dragonball Z style combat.

Then I should be one of those, because I find it funny :D

wow, calm down. I think it could be a great idea, personally - two legendary mages taking to the sky to engage in an epic struggle of power, with the rugged background of snow-capped mountains, and howling blizzards.
sounds pretty great to me.

What i meant by dragonball z fighting was fast paced aerial combat, not a new fighting system or something. if i said "the MATRIX 3: Neo verses Agent Smith fighting in the air" would that sit easier with you? It's basically the same thing. (The movie svcked but that part was kind of cool)

I dont want aerial combat, it changes the whole gamebalance. It would change to much off what we know as TES. Also this would mean that combatsystem would have to changed dramaticly.

Besides levitation would couse a lot off changes in the way quests, dungeons and landskape are created

Levitation is a traditional thing in TES. I believe only oblivion didn't have it. I have to say what I typically don't like, if you don't want to use it you don't have to, personally I don't mind air combat in TES I really enjoyed it in the past, and if they make it even better YIPPEEEEE :celebration: !

I don't want to be flying like superman, but floating more like a lich. Also getting hit in the air should knock you further, I never thought about that yet as the last time I used levitation was from Morrowind.

I agree. maybe if you could only levitate for a short time (< 30 seconds) it wouldnt be too overpowering/game changing.

what i'm saying though is it could be cool, but i don't think the developers will add something that changes up what we know as TES. If there's a way to do it well AND not alienate hardcoe fans that would be my choice.

Im a hardcoe fan and i would hate to see something like this implemented without careful consideration of all aspects of the game it can affect. In my mind it seems good, but they're the professionals so i trust team bethesda.

My stance remains the same on levitation. It needs to have a rapid, constant drain on your magicka while using it so that you can't go very far. So maybe you will be able to keep it going for about 50-70 feet in the air and 30 feet in any direction so that you can get to ledges you normally couldn't get to but won't allow you to bypass enemies while traveling around Skyrim or abuse it by flying up in the air and just blasting enemies with fire balls as you laugh and them not being able to do anything.

Levitating for a short period of time could add some extra to game, however I think that it changes the level design to much, mostly in the way quests are done. I belive levitating could add to much shortcuts in a game, like in the realm of oblivion where there were lava, imgaine levitating over the lava. Imagine the dungeons, just levitating over all obstacls.

Well too bad levitation battles wouldn't be able to not look like DBZ battles...
I say no to levitation.
And yes I am sick of topics about it.

I hate to even bring it into the conversation...but the levitation animation for priests in World of Warcraft is pretty good on some races (particularly female trolls and male undead) :hubbahubba:

My point exactly, levitation changes the gamebalance way to much. If levitation is a possibility in Skyrim at least make it easy to take down targets or my character.

I think your right about this, constant magicka drain is a perfect counter-measure for exploiting levitation. enemies WILL however be able to do something in this one if they can use levitation spells/potions when they need to, unlike in morrowind where they just stood there or ran around in circles.

I can't believe wh anyone would say it doesn't belong to TES. It has been in TES for a long time and it should be. And anyone trying to relate DBZ with possible levitation combat in Skyrim should have their heads examined. Levitation has worked well in the past and there's no reason why it wouldn't now. Once your character is getting powerfull he should be able to do more than basic mundane things - the same applies for other skills as well. Or should we start complaining how good stealth skill ruins the game if it's used wisely etc? If you wan't to talk something overpowered talk about battlemages/healers...
