[Relz] LGNPC Updates

Post » Mon Mar 14, 2011 6:24 pm

We are pleased to make available at this time updates of a dozen LGNPC installments. Some of the changes are modest and may concern some players. Others have important bug fixes, improved compatibility and new content. A description of the changes made to each installment follows. Additionally, we have completed walkthroughs for Ald'ruhn, Indarys Manor, Secret Masters and Tel Uvirith.

http://www.lgnpc.org/downloads any or all of them from our website.

Our website has undergone a facelift and moved to a new domain: http://www.lgnpc.org. Users following our previous link will be redirected to our new location

We are trying something new with Khuul that if well received may be applied to other LGNPC towns. Emma has released a head-replacer that matches faces to the personalities developed by our writers. The effect in-game is very satisfying. Emma's new faces are a welcome addition to the game on their own - but no longer does an NPC's appearance belie his or her background. We are grateful that Emma has been generous enough to allow her own vision for Khuul's residents to be guided by our writers work. We hope you will enjoy Emma's creations as much as we do.

For those players unfamiliar with our mods Less Generic NPC mods introduces unique dialog filtered for individual NPCs that replaces the generic responses usually encountered and create individual personalities and backstories. What follows is a brief description of each mod along with the changes made with the update.

LGNPC Aldruhn version 1.20

LGNPC Aldruhn adds new dialog and develops the personality of every NPC in the Redoran capital of Ald'ruhn. These characters are further developed as the player investigates nearly two-dozen new quests.

*Dialog, objects and cells have been thoroughly cleaned of unnecessary and unintended changes that could contribute to mod conflicts.
*Some accommodation has been made for the new content introduced by the LGNPC Ald'ruhn supplement by disabling two quests and removing the dialog of some NPCs.

LGNPC Aldruhn version 1.20 supplement

This is a new offering - the beginning of a complete re-write of LGNPC Aldruhn. It is not a replacement of LGNPC Aldruhn version 1.20, but intended to be used alongside it. Twelve NPCs has been rewritten and five new quests offered. It can stand by itself, but this new content is not fully compatible with earlier versions of LGNPC Aldruhn and LGNPC Indarys Manor. If you prefer an earlier version of LGNPC Aldruhn then do not download this supplement.

*A walkthrough for the five new quests is linked from our http://www.lgnpc.org/walkthrough-aldruhn and http://escf.rethan-manor.net/index.php?topic=1878.0.

LGNPC Indarys Manor version 1.50

LGNPC Indarys Manor enlivens the NPCs of the Redoran stronghold in Bal Isra with unique backstories and eight quests.

*Dialog, objects, and cells thoroughly cleaned of unnecessary or unintended changes.
*Fixed bugs identified in earlier release as well as others problems not reported.
*Duplicated some existing cells featured in quests to avoid conflicts with official quests and other mods.
*Established a permanent date-stamp for future updates and for establishing proper load order for LGNPC mods.
*Re-numbered local reference index to reduce the likelihood of local reference conflicts with other mods.
*Updated dialog for Aryni Orethi and Fathusa Girethi to be compatible with LGNPC Aldruhn supplement.
*Restored Morrowind-only dependency by removing references to the Tribunal function SetJournalIndex.

*A walkthrough for the eight quests is linked from our http://www.lgnpc.org/walkthrough-indarys-manor and http://escf.rethan-manor.net/index.php?topic=1878.0.

LGNPC Khuul version 2.10

This sleepy fishing town comes alive with new dialog for all of its residents and offers two quests.

*Restored Morrowind-only dependency by removing references to the Tribunal function SetJournalIndex. This update is irrelevant for those players that have one or both expansions.

*A walkthrough for the two quests is linked from our http://www.lgnpc.org/walkthrough-khuul and http://escf.rethan-manor.net/index.php?topic=1878.0.

*Try Emma's http://lovkullen.net/Emma/Headreplacers.htm as a wonderful compliment to this LGNPC installment.

LGNPC Maar Gan version 1.20

Now the residents of Maar Gan have more to talk about than just the weather, and a few of them could use your help.

*Cleans script from NPCs for compatibility sake.

LGNPC Pax Redoran version 1.20

Pax Redoran transforms the entire House Redoran experience by characterizing it as a House of honorable warriors that has been in decline. The PC may restore the honor to House Redoran through his or her choices in a series of new guests. While most of these quests are intended for Redoran players there are several quests available to all players, and anyone will benefit by the new dialog and personalities.

*Adds three new quests available to any player regardless of faction affiliation.
*Various bug fixes.
*Cleaned dialog of potential conflicts with other mods.
*Restored Morrowind-only dependency by removing references to the Tribunal function SetJournalIndex.

*A walkthrough for all of its quests is linked from our http://www.lgnpc.org/walkthrough-pax-redoran and http://escf.rethan-manor.net/index.php?topic=1878.0.

LGNPC Pelagiad version 1.20

Edit:

LGNPC Pelagiad version 1.21
LGNPC Pelagiad version 1.22

The denizens of Pelagiad have received a more light-hearted treatment in this LGNPC installment. Several surprising characters and twenty new quests await your next visit to this Imperial settlement.

*Minor bug fixes.
*Re-structured some quests to improved compatibility with other mods.

Edit:

*Essential update necessary to fix bug released in version 1.20

LGNPC Secret Masters version 1.30

Come for the training - stay for the conversation! Every master trainer in Vvardenfell has a story to tell and a quest to offer (those who are not already involved in an official quest).

*Dialog, objects, and cells thoroughly cleaned of unnecessary or unintended changes that could contribute to mod conflicts.
*Fixed a number of broken quests.
*General dialog changes.
*Added LGNPC NoLore functionality for a few NPCs.
*Restored Morrowind-only dependency by removing references to the Tribunal function SetJournalIndex.
*Duplicated an existing cell featured in a new quest to avoid conflicts with official quests and other mods.
*Established a permanent date-stamp for future updates and for establishing proper load order for LGNPC mods.
*Re-numbered local reference index to reduce the likelihood of local reference conflicts with other mods.

*A walkthrough for all of its quests is linked from our http://www.lgnpc.org/walkthrough-secret-masters and http://escf.rethan-manor.net/index.php?topic=1878.0.

LGNPC Tel Mora version 1.20

Visit Tel Mora and find out what makes this Telvanni settlement special... besides the fact there are no male residents. Prepare to be shocked by Telvanni sensibilities - they are willing to do anything in the interest of research.

*Cleaned dialog of changes to official dialog.
*Fixed bug with Celria's and Salama Andrethi's quest.
*Resolved conflict between quests involving Lette and official Temple quest.

LGNPC Tel Uvirith version 1.20

The four retainers assigned to the Telvanni stronghold have decidedly different personalities and strong opinions about the merits of their colleagues. It might be wise not to take sides. Nine quests available to the Telvanni player.

*Fixed quest bugs and typos
*Cleaned dialog entries that could have contributed to mod conflicts.
*Resolved compatibility issues with Rise of House Telvanni and Uvirith's Legacy.
*Changed ID for many NPCs, objects and scripts for uniformity.
*Restored Morrowind-only dependency by removing references to the Tribunal function SetJournalIndex.

*A walkthrough for the eight quests is linked from our http://www.lgnpc.org/walkthrough-tel-uvirith and http://escf.rethan-manor.net/index.php?topic=1878.0.

LGNPC Vivec Foreign Quarter version 2.10

This most cosmopolitan canton of Vivec dsiplays its diversity more clearly than ever before with unique dialog for all from sophisticated nobles to the lowliest of Orc cultists in the Underworks. Included are sixteen quests and expanded services for several NPCs.

*Fixed minor bugs and typos.
*Added dialog and tweaked a few quest details.
*Adjusted effects of Eye of Khajiit spell.
*Restored Morrowind-only dependency by removing references to the Tribunal function SetJournalIndex.

*A walkthrough for the sixteen quests is linked from our http://www.lgnpc.org/walkthrough-vivec-foreign-quarter and http://escf.rethan-manor.net/index.php?topic=1878.0.

LGNPC Vivec Redoran version 1.50

Just try to penetrate the stoic reserve of the Redoran of this Vivec canton - you will be well rewarded. They are actually rather pleasant company once you get to know them. They offer eleven quests mostly for Redoran players and Temple players.

*Fixed bug that broke official Imperial Legion quest Maiden's Token.
*Improved reliablity of performance of King Rat quest.
*Added LGNPC NoLore functionality for a few NPCs.
*Restored Morrowind-only dependency by removing references to the Tribunal function SetJournalIndex.

*A walkthrough for the eleven quests is linked from our http://www.lgnpc.org/walkthrough-vivec-redoran and http://escf.rethan-manor.net/index.php?topic=1878.0.

Load Order Issues

LGNPC mods are compatible with each other, but a few installments (Pax Redoran and to a lesser extent Vivec Redoran, Indarys Manor, Secret Masters and Tel Uvirith) include some generic dialog that might be prevented from being available if other LGNPC mods load after them. LGNPC NoLore must be the first in the series to load. Its date stamp assures this, but if a mod manager such as Wrye Mash are used be certain that NoLore loads before any other LGNPC mod. Most others can load in any order and then Tel Uvirith, Secret Masters, Indarys Manor, Vivec Redoran and finally Pax Redoran. If the Pax Redoran Soul Sickness patch is uses, it must load after Pax Redoran for it to have effect.

LGNPC News

We are a little worn out after all these updates, but we feel that few problems remain and that means we can shift our focus from troubleshooting to development. We will turn our attention to Ebonheart (long neglected during the time of these updates). We would like to begin testing on Less Generic Tribunal and Less Generic Bloodmoon to bring them into the LGNPC family. Less Generic Nerevarine will require much more attention than we can give it at this time so do not expect a significant update of it any time soon. There are about a dozen NPC works-in-progress for the Aldruhn supplement and more may be added as we are inspired. Re-writes of Ald Velothi, Gnaar Mok and Hla Oad are being sketched - perhaps they may be developed in a collaborative effort with Emma in the spirit of Khuul.

Nice to see new LGNPC content coming.

Download any or all of them from our website.

I just tried the "Download all" button of "LGNPC Bundle" both by ie6 and firefox356, and got a small *.php file, it looks like the package havn't been uploaded on the site.

We are a little worn out after all these updates, but we feel that few problems remain and that means we can shift our focus from troubleshooting to development. We will turn our attention to Ebonheart

good news. there are still many place havn't get a lgnpc improvement done, such as the three ashlander camp, vampire clan.....looking forward to new lgnpc mod.
and about the rewrite plan, I cann't decide to use the old one or the new one. because they all sound nice. I think such a rewriten will take the same long time compare to make a new one...

you have done a great job during years. good luck.

If I already have all the LGNPC mods installed and have done some of the quests in them, will loading the updated versions cause problems?

The "download all" link tries to download a .php file.

Same happening here.

Congrats on the release! :celebration: I'll download as soon as possible (and when the download all option is fixed).

On behalf of the entire LGNPC team I thank the community for its continued support of our project.

EDIT: also, love the random quote thing!

I have mixed feelings about it - you would not believe the number of errors I have discovered by reading the quote box when I visit the site. Seriously, it is a good thing.

I just tried the "Download all" button of "LGNPC Bundle" both by ie6 and firefox356, and got a small *.php file, it looks like the package havn't been uploaded on the site.

Oops :embarrass: I didn't look closely enough to see what it proposed to download - only that the link worked. I will pass this issue on to Max who maintains our website. The individual download links are sound so no one is prevented from accessing our mods while waiting to the 'Download all' to be restored.

and about the rewrite plan, I cann't decide to use the old one or the new one. because they all sound nice. I think such a rewriten will take the same long time compare to make a new one...

If you are referring to Ald'ruhn, your choice is to keep the previous file (version 1.13) or use version 1.20 along with the Ald'ruhn supplement (version 1.20). The latter replaces the dialog of twelve NPCs and replaces two LGNPC quests with five new quests.

If I already have all the LGNPC mods installed and have done some of the quests in them, will loading the updated versions cause problems?

In some cases - yes. You will need to consult the readme (section: Using The Plug-In) for details. Most of the updates were not particularly dramatic. However Indarys Manor (its readme incorrectly refers to Vivec Redoran instead of Indarys Manor), Secret Master and Tel Uvirith had undergone extensive cleaning including changes to IDs so they will require that you clean your saved game of their content. Also the Ald'ruhn supplement changes one LGNPC quest significantly. If the Aldruhn version 1.13 quest was previously performed, the new quest could be entered mid-stream with nonsensical results. Tel Mora has renumbered references that could result in doubling if save is not cleaned - however the Morrowind Code Patch might resolve that issue.

Edit: I did answer your question completely. If you clean your save of an earlier version of a particular LGNPC mod, you will lose your progress on every quest in that mod. It some cases, players may prefer to wait until starting a new game before updating their LGNPC load list.

wow, great work guys and girls. This is one of the originals, glad to see it still going strong.

I remember working on maar gan and ald velothi way back.

Sad to see that ald-velothi is getting redone as I remember doing most of the dialogue with DM, who isn't even around anymore lol.

Oh well, time is fluid, thanks again.

We are very sensitive to the concern you have expressed. It is not our wish to replace the original work on Ald Velothi and other of the early installments. The update of Khuul retained much of the original dialog and characterization. The goal is to fill in for topics that were not addressed originally, resolve contradictions and clarify the dialog where it is ambiguous. We may add a quest or two as appropriate; add filtering for LGNPC NoLore so we can clean away the NoLore script added to so many NPCs that contributed to possible mod conflicts, and add dialog filtered for Children of Morrowind.

no it's not a concern, I downloaded the mod off the website and have it for my records so one day I can look back at it.

The mod is yalls now, and I know some (a lot) of the dialogue is most likely not up to par with the current stuff.

I'll be looking forward to playing with the new mod just as much as I did playing with the old one. If the old dialogue can be salvaged then that will be fine too, yall have done so much more for the project than ever imagined.

I was barely a teenager when I wrote most of my stuff, so I can definitely see where it would need some touching up lol. I also remember some of the crazy things we made them say, and even when the first few newer ones started coming out, ald-velothi was kind of behind.

Yall have my blessing, not that yall need it, but I enjoy seeing this project flourish. It started with just two guys, and then max came along when we didn't know anything about scripts lol and he was real interested too and it's just grown and grown. Real amazing to see.

Great Job. :)

As always, it's grand to see any updates to this series.
I nearly always play a Redoran, and these expand their quests seamlessly.
Indispensable.
