License

My permit test was awesome. One of the questions showed a picture of a red, octagonal sign that had the word "stop" written on it. The question was: What does this sign tell you to do?

I failed my first road test. The instructor asked me to parallel park behind the silver car. The problem was that there were three silver cars parked on the street, so I picked the first one. I started to parallel park and he started screamin' at because the back end of my truck was blockin' off part of the street and apparently a PT Cruiser is not considered a car. Within a ten second period I had accumulated 75 penalty points. Anything over 35 is failin'.

I "failed" my second road test because I was sick and did not call them 48 hours in advance to tell them that I would be sick on the day of my test.

Got my license at 16 on my first try...

I had been driving pretty regularly for 6-7 years at that point. Learned how to drive manual at 9 when I could reach everything. Drivers ed was a joke, didn't learn anything useful. Pretty much all of the drivers education that kids get here in the US is a complete waste of time and a joke.... or pretty much on par with our domestic vehicles.

I got my license and instructional permit when I was nineteen, just last year. I passed both tests with flying colors on the first try. I failed the parallel parking and reverse parking, since I had never practiced. But I passed because when I had gotten onto the road, a car almost crashed into us (it ran a red light), so I came to a safe stop, turned to the instructor, and calmly said, "Well, she wasn't supposed to do that. Are you okay, though?" and he let me pass 'cause he said it was obvious I knew how to drive.

Ohhh. Well i'm stupid

Actually, no, you're not ^^. A town near me in PA has "Drive a tractor to school day" and I've seen 12 y/o driving them, lol. That is actually how some of them get to school. Makes me glad I live in MD ^^

Edit: Oh, and to answer the question, I got my permit when I was 16 1/2 license when I was 17, but that's only because I waited a bit longer, Could have had permit at 15 1/2 and license at 16. 100% on both written/driving.

Never got one, never will. Had a permit at one point, 16 or 18, can't remember. It's long since expired.

Believe it or not, I never got one and just turned 26. I never had driving school or anything like that so if I want one I have to study the book and take the test myself. I just never did it yet. I mostly want a car for traveling long distances and keeping my things inside, and I'm fine with walking when driving isn't necessary. I travel a lot on foot, and gas is expensive here, so it's not much of a problem for what I normally do. I still want one.

Why does it say I don't have permission to vote!

Any way I'm 14 Tommorow so... I can take my test in February 2013

Where I live you can take the test 1 month before your 16th birthday and as soon as day that comes I'll be taking the test, I can hardly wait until I can drive

I'm almost 19 and I don't have one, and I probably won't have anytime soon. Why? Because cars are too expensive. I would have to work for one year, without buying food or paying taxes or anything to buy one of the cheaper cars.

I'm 27 and still don't have my license not because I failed, but due to economic circumstances plus where I live is pretty convenient. Don't have a job so affording that payment for a car + paying for insurance is really hard to grasp. Pretty much swallow my pride and ride in the passenger seat with my relative. As said i'm lucky in that the area I live in is pretty convenient where there's a Publix, Target, and Bank within walking distance of my home (less than a mile).

Sadly all the places here and within 5 miles don't have any jobs or don't have jobs where they are willing to train me. Even expanded my search to 10 miles and didn't come up with anything so i'm really out of luck.

Do you guys realize that the license test is not taken at a car dealership and they don't force you to buy a car right after?

I didn't get it only because it was necessary at the time, but also so I can be useful later if someone let me borrow their car to do something.

Was driving in the local farm fields and woods when I was 14, driving the skidsteer before that. Got my full liscense at 16 (before graduated permits were around). Aced the tests - found it's pretyt easy to parallel park a pick-up because you can see your corners

I'm in a rather rural area, so a liscense is pretty much needed here. I've known people in their 20's who didn't have a liscense because there was good public trans and their basic needs were close by. Then again, if you go REALLY rural, you again don't need a liscense...but maybe some hay and grain ;)

edit: @PredatorX
Ach, I hate that vicious circle! Can't have a car because you can't afford it. Can't get the job because you don't have a car.
Some communities have a trans program specifically for people like you to get to a job. Have you looked into that?

I got it when I was 18, which is a bit late since you can get it at 17 here in Iceland.

I had no trouble with the driving parts of the test, my teacher said I had more control over the car than most people who had been driving all their lifes. I did however fail the written part of the test. <_<

That's why I got mine. Passed the exam four years ago (took three attempts), don't have a car yet and most likely won't have one for years to come. Still, my license has proven very useful already.

I received my drivers license when I was 16, I believe. I failed the written test twice and was able to take it a third time and pass it, with some help. The road test I passed, but I failed parallel parking. At the time, we were allowed to fail one thing, so that was my one thing. Still have my license. Actually have to renew it in a couple of years. <_<

Sadly, I'm 19 years old and still don't have my license. Really I don't see the point in it. I don't really go too many places unless something big is going on, parties and such, and that would mean I could probably bum a ride off of a friend anyway. The jobs that I am able to get, mostly being part time, would make it so that I would basically be working just to pay for the car. Doesn't really sound too keen to me.

We have to be 18 here in Portugal to get it. I already passed the theoretical test, now only the driving test left.

I'm just glad we don't have to parallel park here. svckers!

You park by "tuck and roll", right?

Firearms, shotgun or car?

License to Kill, obviously. I got mine at age 5.

In Australia the thing you most have to worry about hitting are kangaroos, and if you don't have a bull bar they can do some major damage
