Anyone remember liches and vampire ancients from daggerfall? I was terrified of them. You knew if you saw one, it was likely you weren't gonna make it out alive.

I think that, to most intents and purposes, Dragonpriests occupy that role quite well.

Dragon priests are liches, so it would be rather redundant.

Perhaps not in quite spirit; the Lich as the necromancer who achieves immortality; but yes, very much in gaming function.

It's because of the lore. Liches are necromancers who have embraced the power of Lichdom. In Skyrim magic and especially necromancy have been strongly despised since the end of the Dragoncult. So Dragonpriests are only lore friendly liches we could have. There are many liches on other regions on Tamriel. And about the lich form for player... it sounds a really bad idea which has nothing to do with the lore - I can't see anything cool in that.

Vampire Lord form could be considered a variation of general lichdom....
But Liches don't exist in skyrim because of the fact that most of the tombs belong to the Dragon Cult and the Witches and Wizards seem to be aspireing towards becoming Hagravens for some reason.

Of course you can't. You are unenlightened, whose only valid purpose is that of a slave to the strong. You cannot comprehend the beauty in conquering life, and breaking free of Arkay's cruel binds. You fear death, and you should fear it, for you are weak, mortal.

Lichdom could offer some very unique game-play. The closest we got so far is Dawnguard's Vampire Lord form. It's a step in the right direction.
