To be honest I bet he's taking those family days off for Skyrim too.

Hahaha, some great responses, some with surprising depth and wisdom. I hope nobody took my little suicide joke too seriously :ermm:

And, oh, I'll definitely be playing during my off hours those days. It'll be a very tricky balancing act. I have to leave enough time for sleep so I can still work efficiently so I can save enough time to go home early. BUT if I sleep too much, then I'm not maximizing my junkie time.

Current plan is to go to a midnight release and play until about 4AM, then go to work on 4-5 hours of sleep. Should be plenty, right? Right?

I applied with my boss to take a 3-day weekend on 11-11, 11-12, and 11-13. (Normally I work weekends.) He said it should be no problem.

He kinda did?

And about the sleep thing, I'm not sure. Different people require different amounts of sleep.

Chuck another copy of it at your boss and tell him to play that. The moment he starts to play he will be drawn into its power thus giving you the weekend off and a pay rise for showing him such a game.

Also, Bethesda named the date the moment the teaser came out, you had AMPLE time to schedule the date off. Shame on you good sir, shame on you.

Oh, and on the subject of calling in sick ... if I want a mental health day I can always plan one in advance (and have, plenty of times). Calling in the morning of and telling your boss that they have to do both their job and your job that day is not a nicey thing to do ... especially if you're fine and just didn't feel like it.

Um. Bad advice too. I don't think he wants to get fired for being a zombie at work.

Lol. Better option. XD

Times like these remind me of how lucky I am to be self-employed. Admittedly, I oftentimes seem to devote far more time to working for less money, but it's infinitely more relaxing than having a "boss". I've already figured out how to both game and work without losing tooo much productivity.

Hell, half the time I'm posting on here I'm actually also "working".

Nah, I'm safe. When I cover other people's shifts, my supervisors aren't allowed to complain no matter how unfit for work I am. Them's the rules! Besides, they love me too much to let me go for a little thing like working while unconscious.

The only question is: how much of a zombie can I be without extending the time it takes to do my work? (It's a task-oriented job, not a clock-oriented one!)

You guys are completely right. I have nothing to blame except my own geek shame. Seriously, I had this conversation with myself 6 months ago. "I should request that weekend off nao nao nao!" "Don't be ridiculous. Reserving a weekend 6+ months in advance for a freakin video game release? What are you, a jerk?"

So I listened to that voice and here I am today, about to drink acid because of all the despair and stuff.

Moral: never let shame stop you from acting like a total geek.

Although missing out in Skyrim is somewhat a bummer, but I think a co-worker seeing his family is more important than you playing a game.

-Mr. Maric

True that, but would it not be funny if that co-worker would later (at work) recite his/her tales of reaching lv 10?!

Guess i am fortunate, disabled so i do NOT even have to turn my PC off at all! :cookie:

My name is Zombra and my whole life has led up to this moment - only to have all meaning and justice in the universe ripped away like rotting brown paper.

I applied with my boss to take a 3-day weekend on 11-11, 11-12, and 11-13. (Normally I work weekends.) He said it should be no problem.

Shortly thereafter, I find out that a coworker of mine has already requested that week off to go see his stupid family.

NOT ONLY can I not have the weekend off, I am going to have to work EXTRA to cover my friend's vacation.

Truly, this is the end. It's been nice knowing you all. *reaches for bottle of acid*

That's the beauty of a video game,..... it starts when you turn it on, it stops when you turn it off. Its not like you'll be missing anything, it will all be there when you come back to it. You may even enjoy it more, as you will have spent an extra few days anticipating it...

Eloquently said sir

I'll be taking a planned sick day off for the 11th and possibly the 10'th. I've not taken full pay in nearly two years so that I don't need to let any of my employees go, if anyone complains I will fire them.

Granted I basically vanished for a week and I'm not sure my employees even noticed.... So I highly doubt any complaints coming.

A GAME? SAY GAME AGAIN. I DARE YOU, I DOUBLE DARE YOU

Skyrim is not a game. It's a lifestyle.

I have no lectures on Friday the 11th, nor the following Monday. Whoever made my timetable, I salute thee.
