Light armour? You look like a tank!

Post » Thu Dec 15, 2011 2:08 am

The later light armor does look kind of like a plate mail. But overall I like all of the armor designs. They are all massive improvements over Oblivions terrible armor design. I like the idea that the smithing system can improve Tue weaker armies so that one can use them against the hither level foes.

I am really disappointed in the lack of unique armor, particularly unique heavy armor. All they get is Ebony Mail, while light armor wearers get Nightingale, Thieve's Guild, Shrouded Armor, Saviour's Hide...Kinda silly.

Also as this is my first TES game I can't comment of previous incarnations but when I was running around in Dwarven armor I totally felt like a Cannoness.

Well, Wolf Armor from the Companions is "unique" in the same way that Thieve's Guild Armor is. :P

Wolf Armor? What's that? >.> I'm Harbinger and all they gave me was some stupid Skyforge sword.

Anyone found the elven weapons rather clunky looking?

Daedric Armor seems rediculous, to be honest. Oooo, look at me all dremoa/demonic like.

Give me a break. Dremora were from another plane of existence and the armor looks VERY foreign to the game. Just doesnt look right for someone in the game to be walking around in their armor.

Seems a move for the kiddies, to be honest. Oh well. I prefer Steel Plate. Most effective and realistic feel that Ive seen in this game. Except that damn helmet. Wow. I HATE plate steel helmet.

I do not wear one.

Why is dwarven armour so weak?

Spoiler
The quest Unfathomable Depths , given by the Argonian From-Deepest-Fathoms in Riften, gives you a perk named Ancient Knowledge. It gives you a permanent 25% bonus to armor when wearing a full set of Dwarven armor, the perk also allows blacksmithing to increase at a 15% faster rate. At legendary quality a full set of Dwarven armor with the perk is equal to, if not slightly above maxed Daedric, seeing as how it has no armor bonuses compared to Dwarven.

Not too shabby.

My Nord Barbarianess runs around in Legendary Scale Armor, with a Legendary Hide Shield and a Legendary Steel Sword. No helmet, just a copper circlet. It just looks the part. I like the fact that Smithing has allowed you to retain and improve the low level armors and weapons. The problem with so many RPGs is that you always end up running around in the same one or two armors by end game. Smithing alleviated that issue for me.

I wish we had the option to 'hide' the helmet. I want my gear bonus but...I really like my long flowing hair.

I like the bronze, yet metallic look of the weapons. Nothing is more satisfying than seeing an Elven Greatsword or Elven Bow reflect in the sun. It''s a thing of beauty.

I was hoping for a set of armor that was kind of Gladiator style, where they had the sword arm unarmored and the offhand heavily armored, only in reverse, as my character is a Spellsword (unarmored hand for casting, armored arm for sword). Also because asymmetrical armor is cool.

If you get the dragonskin alteration spell, it gives you the maxed protection in the game, at the 80% cap. Cast this spell and you can walk around naked for all you care. It's a master level spell.

Alternatively, just use blacksmithing and enchantment to hit the armor cap with any type of armor in the game. Helmet not required.

There are very few armors I particularly like in this game.

Orcish, Studded and Horned Scaled Armor are pretty much the only ones I enjoy.

I don't really like hide or studded and scale.

I don't like how none of the guys end up wearing a full on cuirass instead it's like a belt across his chest and he thinks he looks manly that way.

And granted my character is kind of lean and scrawny muscular it just looks tacky to see this pathetically skinny guy wearing armor that shows his bare chest. I realize not all the variants are this way, I just don't really like the hide armor at all. And as stated when a scrawny guy is wearing plated armor, it looks kind of tacky.

And even the fur armor in Skyrim has issues because it looks like someone glued on the shoulders fur. Instead of actually have an interesting sort of fur armor, it looks like something made with fabric glue.

You could try Ancient Nord Hero Armor.

Um, ebony armor IS black.

Dwarven armor being so weak is funny to me. They were the most advanced race and have weak armor? That makes sense??

Dwarven Armor is actually the best armor in the game.

Spoiler

BUT

The Ancient Knowledge perk is currently bugged; The bonus to Dwarven Armor does not work as listed, instead seeming to enhance armor rating from ALL heavy AND light armor, rather than only dwarven; This commonly leads to the assumption that the effect doesn't work at all, since the way one would expect to see it change is by comparing armor rating before and after equipping. Also, instead of making the Blacksmithing skill increase 15% faster, it actually fortifies Blacksmithing.

With Smithing you can hit the armor cap with any armor and not wear a helmet. That's what I do. I prefer the fur/hide/scale armors currently and am doing just fine by smithing intermittently and upgrading my gear. If you just smith between quests it feels natural and you can retain the armor you like.

Alternatively, tehre is a mod availabkle to hide the helmet for those of you asking for that. Me, I find it a bit silly really. I don't want to both look total awesom and be total awesome. Either or.

One thing I don't get is that they have several really cool pieces of armor solely available to specific characters. Thullius I could understand. But why not be given a set of greybeard robes for following their doctrines? Why can I not get my hands on a bad ass set of executioner armor? The mage hood is seperate from the robe. Why not make it available as a seperate piece? Why no version of the Dragon Priest masks without a hood, or the hood without the mask.

Dunno bro. I actually think the low level armor looks better than the goofy high level stuff. It's too bright and shiny.

agreed. i love the lower tier weapons and armor. its almost like they had two seperate people designing them. the high end armors look awful like somethign out of WoW or some anima/manga comic book. they also look as utilitarian or as sneaky as large crowd of people with tourettes holding megaphones.

You only look like a tank. I got rocked by 3 falmers while wearing light armor inspite of having a shield and a follower. Light armor hurts in melee.
