I belive the "sniper rifles" are called short rifles not light rifles, but i could be wrong.

Semantics.

Pretty much. I think it's time for us to let the whole light rifle/sniper rifle thing go. People are going to be using light rifles as sniper rifles as effectively as possible. There are going to be people playing as snipers. Not the end of the world.

It's the stubborn undertones about it that gets to me. Like SD releases all this information about how the rifles in Brink work - no OHK, used more as a support role than an outright killer, etc. and the sniper fans read this and go, "well I'm gonna be a sniper anyway," almost like it's out of spite.

Short Rifles are ideal to harass Heavies as a Light; possibly getting them to pursue you. Then you can use your speed advantage to flank them and finish the job with your sidearm.

Haha, yeah, I see it too. But we all know now that light rifles aren't going to work like typical sniper rifles do in most FPS, not to mention the pace of battle is likely going to be too frenetic to be wasting time trying to set up a perfect shot. I think SD has done enough to discourage anyone from playing as what most of us would consider a sniper's sniper. If someone can make a playstyle out of it that doesn't get them kicked off of their own team, I say all the more power too 'em.

But anyway my original point was just that it's getting tiresome seeing it corrected over and over. Light rifles are going to be anologous with snipers for the purposes of the game. I think we can just let it go as a connotation from now on.

It might be used similar to the FAL from the COD games. Semi-auto rifle that is either used for long range or used with a rapid fire controller in mid range.....

If so then why would they name it the Drognav?

Why would they name it drognav when it is clearly based on the DSR-1? I don't see your point, his tactical description seems close enough.

Yeah, I'm sure it will be used in all sorts of ways. Some successfully, some not so much. I'm just saying if someone slaps a scope on it and takes shots from a distance, they're effectively sniping, so there's no point in repeating " There are no snipers/is no sniping in Brink. It's light rifles/'light rifling' " over and over again.

The Crowd doesn't consider it sniping if it's not a one-hit-kill.

And while that is a fair point, it doesn't really matter if the intent of the player is to play as effectively as possibly as a sniper. Say maybe, hanging back behind the line a good distance and picking off any damaged combatants that make it through.

Yeah, but people will identify the name as it = sniper rifle.

Again, point? the DSR-1 is also a sniper. His tactical description STILL seems accurate.

I'm not talking about true-to-life accuracy, I'm talking about how the community will react.

Well, people will figure out pretty quickly that it isn't OHK, and will have to adjust their tactics if they want to survive.

People may not LIKE change, but we do have the ability to adapt.
