I'd like to be able to name weapons when forging them

Post » Wed Dec 07, 2011 2:51 pm

if I'm a master blacksmith and I'm creating a weapon to destroy dragons at a forge i'm pretty sure I'd give it a name right then and there and I don't always like to use and enchanted weapon I actually preffer not to. Though my Legendary Glass Sword Yol Is is usually in my inventory ready to set people on fire I use my skysteel axe and sword most of the time and I really wish I could name them. Skjor would be my axe Faas Ro Na my sword.

Anyone else like this idea?

A request for the Devs obviously, it makes pretty good sense I think.

I'd figure the idea of making your own weapons more unique would be more appealing to the community.

If you want to smith a plain weapon then it shouldn't need to be named. Enchanting makes it special so it deserves a name but a boring 'Steel Longsword' doesn't deserve a name.

I like it. I think it'd be something easily achieved in a mod. Perhaps talk to one of the people who are working on a http://www.gamesas.com/index.php?/topic/1274031-wipz-smithing-expanded/page__st__100__p__19334252__hl__smith__fromsearch__1#entry19334252 mod?

Usually a weapon is name when it's made, and I know you can name when you enchant didn't you read the OP at all? I'm playing on 360 so Mods don't help me.

Ah, It'd still be a cool idea. Perhaps see if you can collate a heap of cool features in one thread for the devs to see?

It would be nice when enchanting as well... Just like how you could do it in Oblivion with spells.. I don't know why they took it out... Mods will 100% fix this though... we only need the CK.

Word.

Since creating weapons and armor is a skill in this game, it's kinda funny that you can't name any of it without becoming a magic man.

Well, if only I was that driven lol. They read alot of the posts here on the forums I'm sure if a voice is loud enough they'll hear it. I'm just hoping to get noticed I don't want to make waves I just think I have a few good ideas like forge named weapons and sprinting and jumping lol. Maybe being able to smith arrows you know a few things.

You CAN name your weapons when you enchant them already.

On the Xbox after you've selected everything you press Y before you actially craft the item. just pay attention to the key strokes at the bottom of the screen.

I wuoldn't even be opposed to enchanting a weapon and just letting the enchantment wear out if I didn't get a "Doesn't have enough charge" message every time I hit something.

You could just give it a weak enchant with tons of charges.

But it would be a whole lot easier if you could just name your armor and weapon liek you said

It's not nonsense. Naming one's weapons and armor has been a time honored tradition, not only during medieval times but well before that as well. And our world doesn't even have magic.

I agree with this. It's kind of odd how they put it with enchanting but not smithing, really.

Excalibur. Honjo masamune. Durendal. Hrunting.

And I agree with OP.

I feel that if, using my trusty sword, i've been through a 100 dungeons, slain undead monsters, survived fight after fight, emerging victorious with my worn down sword in one hand and epic loot in the other, i should be able to name my 'boring sword', even if it isn't enchanted.

A named weapon can add backstory to your character, or make you feel connected to it. You wouldn't imagine Sephiroth without Masamune, or Frodo without Sting. I do think that you should be able to name your weapons, even if they are normal.

Great idea. Not sure how anyone can say it's nonsense. What makes more sense:

a) Forging a sword by my own hands, out of nothing, and naming it something epic, since I created it
B) Finding a bow in a chest somewhere in the woods, slapping a +fire enchant on it, and naming it something epic, since I found it

There are tons of swords throughout history that have been named. And obviously none of them were enchanted. They usually had some sort of significance attached to them, or were wielded by a famous person in history - not many who are more fitting of that honor in Skyrim than the dragonborn himself.

For most people this probably doesn't matter, since the vast majority will enchant their forged weapons at some point and rename them. But it doesn't seem like it'd be that big of a change, and it makes sense.

Ok because its so hard to understand...or because some of you(?) dont want to use the thing in your head ;) I'll try it to explain it how I (and maybe bethesda) was thinking about it:

One day your char can make a 'Steel Sword'. You learned it. Thats why you can make a Steel Sword, you didnt invented it, but you can make it because you learned how to make a Steel Sword. Thats nice. Now you are 'cool' just because your name is Navurp or rsersen you are giving your creation whats not you didnt invent an own name, like "Navurps Super King Sword". Then you are walking around the city and an NPC is talking to you:

NPC: "Hey! A new sword! ...no wait that looks like a normal Steel Sword... and not only that...its the same dmg and everything..."
You: "No thats an Navurps Super King Sword"
NPC: "No look I have here the same one, if I would give you my sword it would be the same for you"
You: "No thats an Navurps Super King Sword"
NPC: "Seriously you shouldnt take so much skooma..."
You: "No thats an Navurps Super King Sword!!!!!"
NPC: "Im otta here..."

You got the point my friend ;)? I hope so, that would be nice :celebration:

Invalid argument. I didn't invent enchanting the sword either. In fact I learned it by disenchanting a weapon that already had the same enchant on it. So why can I name the sword when I'm copying the enchant, but not when I'm copying the creation of it?

See, now we found a bug. What shall we do now? Oh no...we have to wait until someone made with the CK a mod to fix these problems. Damn now we have to wait and cant play the game. For what did I pay 47€?

No seriously... skooma ... im outta here ;)
