"Oops, you're posting too fast! To post again please score 20k+ in this game of tetris"

But that would sink my spambot idea which could get to Archpatriarch in 3 weeks by posting generic quasi-relevant posts :(

17 people like Justin Bieber.

Just remember there has to be a post like this in every [censored] thread.

I dont wanna make this FB, but Id like a way to agree with someones comment without having to quote them and typing "this".

Seems like the cool way to keep down clutter.

No big deal, just sayin...

edit: type O

No. It doesn't. That [censored] is stupid. It's the cancer that is killing the internet. It's completely overused. It's a sausage waving contest.

People just mindlessly click "like" without even thinking.

I'm not even lying. I swear by Darwin's mighty beard I saw this the other day on FB.

A girl I know posted "Grandma passed away this morning."

And right under. "4 people like this."

If that doesn't explain to you what's wrong with that system, nothing short of a series of hard slaps to your face and neck will properly educate you, and as I cannot physically enjoy doing that myself from where I am, I'm giving myself a false sense of hope by even mentioning it.

Only if we get a dislike button too. I'd rather have a "like" button than people just quoting people and typing "this" or just quoting people to say something for them. Unless someone is trying to prove that the point in question isn't believed by anyone else agreeing with it doesn't add to the discussion at all.

 Because Facebook is such a great example of social mechanics...

I think you're overreacting, a like/dislike system can be very useful at times, especially in the hands of a decent community (I'd like to think the BSF is a pretty good community)

Example:

Someone posts about the location of an item in FNV and he gets 5 quick replies, and all of them say different things. Now instead of a ton of people posting a quote to the right one and

This^

Wouldn't it be simpler just to give the right post a thumbs up (or a like, if you want) and give the wrong ones a thumbs down? Seems pretty logical and useful to me.

The system isn't broken, people just aren't using it the way it was intended. Because some people get into car accidents does that mean we shouldn't use cars?

BSF

Whooah, steady on. You're getting a bit progressive there, are you not? We need at least another 2 years of BGSF before we're ready for a name change!

No, because the people doing that are blatantly just looking for ways to spam up their post counts. If the question is already answered, better just to keep your trap shut.

That status synching we have with Facebook is erratic at best. I imagine "likes" working the same way as view counts, where they suddenly shoot up from 0 to 199.

Obviously. We should all fly on broom sticks. Much more effective and environmentally friendly.

I would support this ONLY if there was a like button for the like button, so if you saw that someone - let's use TeeHee as an example - liked Caffienatedjedi's post about how pimp Rohugh's cane was, and you liked that TeeHee liked Caffienatedjedi's post, you could then officially like that like, so that people could see that you liked that like.

Makes sense, no?

No, it doesn't.

I agree. We don't need a " like" button.
I occasionally hit the "like' button on FB when I agree with something, but I far prefer to comment on something rather than post a canned response.
Full sentences and clarity > general terms such as "like".

Must... resist... replying.... with "this"

But yeah, a like button is pointless imo. I hate having facebook and twitter invade every website I use.
