I like sneaking but hate playing at night...

Post » Mon Jan 18, 2016 3:30 am

I enjoy using a stealth build, particularly melee focused. However, it seems a bit more difficult to achieve while playing during the in-game daytime with enemies seeing you. This takes away from my enjoyment, as I really am not a fan of games set in the dark (I strongly prefer well lit environments due to eyesight issues) or passing in game time to bring on night for optimal sneaking efficiency. I'm playing on survival difficulty, so all the advantages help.

I was wondering if there was a mod that would allow the benefits sneaking receives during the night to apply during the daytime? Or simply change night time to be more bright/clear like day? I understand this impacts realism, which I am fine with. I'm still fairly low level (don't have access to much in the way of gear or extra perk points).

TL;DR - Game daytime is much easier on eyes. Is it possible to have sneaking advantage of nighttime applied to daytime? E.g. via console, mod, anything...

You can download reshade + sweetfx and go here https://sfx.thelazy.net/games/game/1158/to see if there's any preset that fits your needs.

I've seen that, and watched a video of it in use (i'm still relatively low level to have it myself). It looks like part of the screen becomes blurry, and it negatively impacts daytime vision from what I'm seeing. I'll give it a try though once I'm high enough level wise and see how it is.

I looked at the presets and didn't see anything that would light up the night. Even though it doesn't fit my need here, there's some good stuff and I might grab one or two presets!

That is correct; it acts like a night vision scope (how anyone on the dev team thought this was appropriate is beyond me). don't get that perk unless you ONLY want to stay in dark area. Always.

Weird, I admit I didn't bother looking through them myself because usually there is a lighter or darker preset for most of the high-profile games. Glad you atleast found them useful tho. :D

A bit strange for me as I see the nights in FO4 as extremely bright. I use the Darker Nights mod therefore. And you can also sneak during day, except you want to attack with melee from the front. I do it because I don't like playing during the dark nights so much. ;)

I am vampire, give me the darkness! Hehe, nights mostly seem way too bright, to me. A few dark shadows, I occasionally need my flashlight to see stuff in for looting, but generally, the nights are pretty bright. I turn off most of the lights in my room and go feral. Playing in the daytime, I feel exposed and vulnerable.

Wearing light armor and upgrading it to Shadowed should help. Even in fairly well-lit buildings at max rank of Sneak, enemies would often be looking at me and not be able to see me. Turning the gamma up all the way should also help.

If you can mod, as others have suggested, there's a couple mods that help out.

Night is pretty darn dark, and getting into a fire-fight, it can be pretty darn difficult nor to shoot the friends.

I was taking down the Ironworks and had made a hit-and-run to asfe distance, one one of the enemies walked past, or so I thought, I lined up my blow-his-head-off shot, but paused, hmm is he enemy. So tried talking.... he was a Ghoul quest-giver. So careful who you blow-away !!

Why do you hate the night ? Is it the bluish monotone atmosphere ? I hate it too. But my first char was stealth and my second one is also stealth, so playing at night is the thing to do to remain hidden. I tried during daytime but stealthiness is way reduced, even in the shade.

They should have a perk that allowed the player to use camouflage during daytime, like a real life sniper would.

Still, I haven't tried to put 'shadowed' on all my armor parts and go play in the sunlight, does that even work, if you have Sneak lvl 5 ?

I wonder if the bomb have anything to do with this and how much more the planet receives light from the sun and other stars.

also at night, it should be a little brighter considering there is less light reflecting from the planet to those of the stars.

I once read in an article that before electricity lighting was introduced to mankind, it was very easy to see distant stars and galaxies in the night's sky.

Thanks Chaos! I am attempting to sneak while wearing leather armor (which is light) that I've modified to be Shadowed and the legs muffled. In dimly lit buildings or at night I can sneak fairly well, but head outside during the daytime? I can be seen from a long way off in a wide NPC field of vision. So when there are multiple NPCs facing different directions (so, only occasionally a blind spot that quickly changes when they move) it's very, very difficult to sneak up on them. Is that not an issue for you outdoors in daylight?

And I did look at Nexus mods and the reshade/sweetfx link above, but haven't found a mod to brighten my sneaking. Any suggestions in particular? Thanks!

I'm a little confused... getting in front of an NPC seems to get me detected as you'd expect, while sneaking out of their field of vision allows sneak attacks... unless I'm completely missing your sarcasm? :)

How many ranks in sneak do you have? Low levels it's actually pretty easy to get detected, but once you've got 3+ ranks it becomes much easier to avoid detection, especially when you get the perk that allows you to move at normal speed with no penalty.

I'd also recommend trying to find all the covert ops magazines. They give you a permanent bonus to sneaking and make you harder to detect.

Finally, be careful of companions. They can be detected far easier than you, so if you're using one, it can mess up your sneaking pretty easily.

I can't relate to this thread, playing during the night is awesome, nothing beats the feeling of waiting until the dark in order to meet the conditions to infiltrate an enemy camp and kill them with melee on a methodical pace. I wish some parts were even darker actually, that way you would feel forced to use proper equipment to succeed.

Is it mentats that improve perception? If so instead of a whole perk dedicated to night vision it should of just been if you take mentats at night it makes you see in the dark. That perk instead could be +25 movement speed at night or something.
