I'd like a TES for the PSP/DS

Post » Wed Feb 02, 2011 12:39 am

yah, i really do. why? well, with christmas, thanksgiving, and all the other events during the end of the year, i have to travel alot. in a car filled with 4 screamign kids, my grandmother, and my parents. and we are crammed. and i'd like to play something other than the ghost recon 2 i've been playing the past 2 years on my PSP. I included DS because i think it would work really well, with the touch screen using the menu, doing combat, casting spells, etc.

i think it could work very well. i'm sure i can work out a control scheme in my head in 15 minutes really; all you would need is maybe a modifier key (like in assasins creed) so the game knows that you are not trying to jump, you are trying to sneak. or whatever.

is there any future plans for anything like this? I couldn't imagine the epicness of Morrowind on a PSP or DS. fallout would be cool too.

Well there was a version of Oblivion planned for the PSP, but it was canceled. It was more of a dungeon crawler than open-world RPG anyway. There are the mobile games, but none of them are really on par with Morrowind or Oblivion. It would be nice to have a real TES game on a portable, but I don't think Bethesda is interested in that right now. They don't want to develop for the Wii, so I really doubt they want to develop for the PSP or DS.

but wii is really a casual platform, more aimed towards smaller kids.there are more advlt games, but in all an RPG would not be good on a wii.

the cell phone ones are....not good though. games on a cell phone typically svck anyway, with difficult controls, usually a small screen, and bad graphics.

but i think a large market would be interested in it. if nothing else, Fallout 3 fits PSP perfectly; its basically an FPS with RPG elements, but it is better than oblivion. i could easily see FO3 on PSP.

I've said it before, and I'll say it again. Daggerfall is perfectly suited for the DS. Graphically, it's not above what the DS can handle (and would probably look better on a smaller screen!) and the combat system just screams "touch screen".

I'd prefer a remake over a straight port (option for 3rd person perspective please, and perhaps a slight overhaul of the graphics- simple 3D models for characters and enemies would be nice, as well as modernized Khajiit designs [ie Suthay-raht, or at least add them to the possible Khajiit faces] and playable Imperials), but I could live quite comfortably with the original version ported to the DS. :D

If they can do Battlefront for PSP, I'm sure they could do an optimized version of Morrowind...

id love this. i am having trouble with the original daggerfall, mainly because it is difficult to see what everything is, especially the people, and the controls are imperfect. on DS it would be perfect!

Daggerfall port to the DS would be the greatest thing ever. The technology fits. The input fits. And the demographic loves TES games but have never played Daggerfall. How is this not happening? Aside from possible exclusivity with Microsoft.

I remember when I first made a thread on "Daggerfall DS" on my first account way back in the day. I wish we could hear Beth's reasoning for not doing this.

http://www.elderscrolls.com/games/shadowkey_overview.htm comes pretty close. It's an excellent game, with an open game world too and not a dungeon crawler like the cancelled PSP game. Possibly the best handheld game I ever played, and it's a 5 year old game on a dead platform -_-

A DS port of Shadowkey would be lovely ^_^

I know this is a tad off-topic, but is there a way through this site to occasionally address the Bethesda staff with questions? Even if just on special occasion? Because I think this is one that would've already been asked at some point or even addressed already by Bethesda.

Some forum fan interviews has been organised in the past.

And gamesas employees do surf and read various topics as they please, although at the moment the Fallout 3 section get the most attention as it's their newest game. And they also go two community managers, whose job is basically to be a link between their audience and the developers, which obviously includes this forum.

Fighting Fantasy: The Warlock of Firetop Mountain for the DS is yet another example that the DS hardware IS capable of a TES game whether new or port (Daggerfall COULD be possible methinks, with a good dose of distance fogging)

Comeon Beth...don't let these upstart WHELPS sit on your throne of RPG.

Microsoft? where's the exclusivity there? their games are released n PS3 as well; no reason it can't be on the PSP and DS.

I think the reason why there is no Elder Scrolls DS/PSP is because there are "few people" that will actually play it, I think those other Elder Scrolls Travels (Dawnstar, Stormhold, Oblivion and Shadowkey) never sold enough, I think they just don't want to put the time in a game like this. It's a shame........ I would love to have and Elder Scrolls for DS.........

If Morrowind was released on Playstation, which one PS1 or PS2? (maybe off topic question but then I suggested a thought for a PSP version if possible)

My brother read PSP has more power than PS1 and closer to PS2 power. If morrowind came out as a Playstation 1 version and then there would be chances Sony will make a PSN digital download for the PSP.

I think Bethesda's partner company made the travel games, I could be wrong, I am sure Freddo will know.

Elder Scrolls Travels never sold much because they're kind of awkward to find. You've got to be on the right mobile provider (and from what I could see, only in the USA). Plus, who'd play a game on a mobile phone or an N-Gage if they could play it on a DS or PSP?

And AlexPej79: I think the PSP is closer to the PS2 in power. I had Grand Theft Auto: Liberty City Stories on the PS2, and I'm pretty sure it was a straight port from the PSP version.

well...there should be alot of things for DS, if anyone has ever seen the port of super mario 64 for DS, you know it takes that gem, adds more to it(this was still a really early game in the creation of the DS) and still keeps the frame rate great. although it is more powerful then the N64, i'd like to see starcraft, command & conquer, majora's mask, and ocarina of time, and the classic fallout games. daggerfall would probably have better graphics, considering it was a DOS game and the DS can play N64 great....i think the DS could do great with daggerfall, but not morrowind, and multi card would only make it worse. "To advance to level 40, insert the card you lost.."

i wish it could be one...but it would'nt work well.

An Arena or Daggerfall type game on the PSP would be great and even better they don't have to bother with any touch screen stuff. The system has always been dying for good games so I'm sure there would be more of a demand for it than on the DS. I think the reason the Travels games didn't go good was because they were on the N-Gage. Do you know anyone with an N-Gage? Have you ever played an N-Gage? Heck, have you ever even seen an N-Gage in a store? I answered "no" on all three accounts.

I could be wrong but when Vir2L was working on Travels I believe they were almost exclusively working on cell phone games, in which case the NGage made sense as a platform since they were already working with Nokia for other titles (including other TES Travels games). Since then they've developed games for the Nintendo DS and iPhone so hopefully if they do more TES Travels games in the future we'll see them on one of these.

Several of the Bethesda developers have gushed about gaming on their iPhones and now Bethesda has two sister-companies (Vir2L and id) interested in iPhone games so I'd be surprised if we don't see moble Elder Scrolls (and Fallout) games in the future.

I think they'd make a Fallout one first...

It seems to have taken TES's cake (sadly...), with all the attention. Not that I don't think there will be another TES game (because there will be), but I honestly think they would make some type of fallout hand-held before an Elder Scroll's one.

Hopefully though, they will make a travel game for one of the consoles, or even another mini-game for the computer like Redguard...

I guess we shall see.

Perhaps but I think they're more likely to go with whatever setting they're using in their next big game, and I think that's more likely to be an Elder Scrolls title than Fallout 4.

Morrowind is too demanding for both the PS1 and PS2.
