Linux Port

Post » Fri May 27, 2011 3:16 am

I was just wondering if there was any news about Rage getting a Linux port or not? I tried searching for it but I kept getting mixed answers. Some said maybe. Some said after a while. And then some people on the Ubuntu forums said no because of some deal when Zenimax bought them out or whatever.

And while I'm at it, is there going to be one for Mac?

Thanks tons,
Chunky

I don't know about Mac, when they originally demoed rage way back in 07 at QuakeCon they had it running on PC and Mac.

As for Linux I know TTimo, one of the guys that's done the ports in the past, really wants to get the port done but there is no promise or timeline for it. The ports have never had anything to do with the publisher in the past, and so long as one of the developers wants to sink their teeth in and do it there is a chance.

I was under the impression Linux users just used a Windows emulator to play games.

Hi,
I hope for a GNU/linux port too. (I use Mandriva 2010.2 x86_64 )
Wine is not a solution to play on linux (bad quality, performance, not very easy to configure, game patch can make problem and it maybe not work well or not at all, etc ....).
And if its not an error, the Id Tech 5 will be opensourced (http://www.phoronix.com/scan.php?page=news_item&px=OTA3MA) so I have a great hope for play this game on my Mandriva .

I have enough to use Windows just for play and have games with the Games for Windows platform.

I wanted to voice my support for a Linux port as well. (Fedora x86_64)

Didn't Carmack say he wouldn't be personally pursuing it, but if it happened, it happened?

Timothee Besset has been promise Linux-port of at least idTech 5: http://ttimo.typepad.com/blog/2009/09/id-software-and-linux.html
So I hope Rage will be ported to Linux too. Guys from idSoftware and Bethesda Softworks, we really need official confirmation or (it's more likely better idea) pre-order of Rage Linux-version.

No we have had native versions of pretty well all of id's games. I was lucky enough to be a tester on Carmack's effort to write nice Linux drivers for the Matrox cards back in the Q2 days. I could run Q2 faster in Linux than windose.

Hi!
I just became a member of the forum only to add my voice for a Linux port!
Linux nowadays has a much bigger desktop penetration partly because of the ubuntu effect partly because Linux is becoming better and better.
Now more than ever a Linux port makes sense even if it uses closed graphic drivers of ATI and Nvindia.
But I hope that someday mesa will be on par with OpenGl and opendrivers on par with closed ones.
Till then we need RAGE FOR LINUX!
