Personally I find that to be a waste of time that could be better spent elsewhere.
Also if your name is Bob, Jimmy, Billy or Anne; would the robot call you Robert, James, William or Hannah instead?

But will we be able to fire back with "That's not my name" by The Ting Tings?
Bruce better be on that list. And that with that specific name he says "Master" instead of "Mister"
"Master Bruce, your dinner is ready!"
I wouldnt be surprised if we get the top 500 female and male American names in the 50's (not neccesarily today)
Now that, would be an argument for coop or multiplayer. An npc just can't "appreciate" passing a player standing in the wasteland musically arguing with the pipboy.
EDIT: Accompanied with any number of angry / sad... SHAAAAUNS !
The game will probably crash if you name the baby, 'the baby'.
Do most people give their character just a first name? I always come up with a full name.. Doubt it'll be able to handle two or three names. "hello Mr. Henry James Penelope Aardvark III"
When he went through the XB1 presentation with a character named Phil Spencer, Codsworth couldn't recognize it and used generic dialog. So you're probably right. Just give your character a last name? I generally give my characters my middle name, Francis, so I'm most likely covered. I mean, most people can't even pronounce my last name, so I really doubt Codsworth would know it.
With the ever shrinking character limits we'll probably only manage about seven letters anyway.
Fallout Shelter wasn't developed by Bethesda Softworks, and, I suspect, neither is the companion app.
