List of settlement changes that'd be nice to have

Post » Fri Feb 12, 2016 9:24 am

More variety to items that you can create
  • Things such as fences, it'd be nice to be able to create chain link fencing like the ones you find at Outpost Zimonja. Also fences of different sizes would be nice, like the smaller fences housing the brahmin at Bunker Hill.
  • More containers such as the medic box, duffel bag and ammo box
  • Introduce fridges, they are already in the game, and they could be used as containers for food
  • Kitchen cabinets (used as containers) and kitchen counters (the ones that go against the walls) would be nice. We could then create a kitchen space. (kitchen cabinets and kitchen counters already exist in the game, why cant we create them?)
  • New wall/roof/floors/doors, there just doesn't seem to be a wide selection at the moment. One type of wooden doorway entrance wall?
  • Doors that will fit in the houses in sanctuary
  • More craftable miscellaneous items such as wooden boxes/crates and metal barrels. Items that we can create to give an area some character.
  • Usable bunk beds. Bunk beds are already in the game, they can be seen at the start of the game in the Vault or even at Covenant.
  • Bathtubs and toilets that don't look so dirty/rotten. Yes i know its the end of the world, but that doesn't mean you cant clean the dirt from around the toilet and fix the toilet seat.
  • Foundations that fit the misshapen prefab houses. The large shack prefab for example, or the strange shape of the large metal shack prefab.

Other changes to settlements
  • The ability to lock containers
  • Tool holder mounts like you already see in game, let us create them and make them hold tools
  • Wall weapon mounts (what's the point in showing weapons mounted on walls in the introduction if they are not in game?)
  • The ability to be able to scrap demolished houses, such as the one in Tenpines Bluff or the massive truck and destroyed house at Coastal Cottage.
  • The ability to scrap the foundations that are left in sanctuary after you scrap the junk houses. Also the kids play equipment in the middle of sanctuary, not all of it can be scrapped.
  • Indoor wall dividers so we can create rooms with doorways indoors.
  • Changes to the trading stores so instead of having to use those bulky wooden stores, we can just throw down a cash register on a counter and let our settlers start trading (Keep the old stores, just give us an option to be able to use cash register as stores)
  • A way to lock down placed items/junk so settlers/companions don't knock them over. This may also solve the problem where junk items will just fall through the shelves/tables and in some cases disappear
  • Some way to fix broken houses like Croup Manor. If i assign say 3 settlers, 400 wood, 200 steel and 100 concrete (maybe few more supplies) and give them 1 month in game, they should be able to repair most of the house. I know this seems a little too much, but is it really? What are we realistically suppose to do with half demolished houses, that are full of holes in the roof, floor and walls, in settlements that we have no way of repairing? If you can build a house from scratch in game, you should be able to assign a group of settlers as builders to a broken up house and have them repair it somewhat using supplies.
Myst357
  • Give us a way to trim weeds. It makes me frustrated to build a house, only to have foliage clipping through the floor and the beds and swaying back and forth.
  • Give us a way to clear the gardening areas. Un-clearable foliage in the garden is not cool. Sunshine Trading Co-op is a perfect example.
Headpopper
  • The ability to get rid of bodies, skeletons and any unwanted objects, such as the junk items in Coastal Cottage that cant be scrapped.
Morbryn
  • Roofs that don't leak.
SneakyGumbo
  • The ability to rename containers.
Nemorov
  • The ability to place items in the red in build mode.
  • More things to scrap, so people can tidy up areas by scrapping piles of rubbish etc.
-Speck-
  • A way to rotate things without picking the objects up
  • Ability for walls and prefabs to clip through other objects

I know alot of people will be screaming ''mods, mods, mods''. I barely use mods. I like playing vanilla games, always have. It'd be nice to have some of these things mentioned above from Bethesda officially.

Feel free to add your own ideas. I'll update the list with new ideas.

I am with you about the mods. I don't even think about using mods until the official creation kit is released. I also like the vanilla game well enough. I love all of your suggestions, and here are some to add from my wish list:

  • Give us a way to trim weeds. It makes me frustrated to build a house, only to have foliage clipping through the floor and the beds and swaying back and forth.

  • Give us a way to clear the gardening areas. Un-clearable foliage in the garden is not cool. Sunshine Trading Co-op is a perfect example.

  • Give us a way to get rid of those dead bodies at the settlements that never go away, no matter what we do. I am talking about the ones such as near the Old North Bridge, Sunshine Trading Co-op, and the one upstairs in Taffington Boat House.

I especially love your idea about the cash registers on a counter for stores. Sometimes less is more. :)

All I need is the ability to get rid of bodies, skeleton, and any unwanted objects.

At Coastal Cottage, there are bunch of junks, including sofa, that are unbreakable.

I've been wanting to create an ammo box and lockable [non-floor] safe for some time. I'm a little confused as to why these aren't available.

As for fridges, while I agree with the OP, you may consider using the ice cooler for RP purposes to satisfy that need for now.

And yes, the ability to get rid of trash/rubble would be amazing (I'm on PS4).

Roofs that don't leak. I can build a generator with some oil gears and a rubber band. I should be able to build a roof that keeps the rain out.

I too get that it's the end of the world, but the end of the world happened over 200 years ago. We have power, radio stations, laser, plasma and pulse weapons.. We should have overcome the leaky roof.

Rename containers would be nice. Love the idea about more fences, chain link or any other kind would be. I like how you could buy different sets in FO3 for your house. Want a vault set design? Here you go use this. Settlements is good, but I feel it's like raider power armor, thrown together at the last second but you know you can do better later on down the road. I get it's the wasteland and the end of the world happened but as I said before, mankind would up pick up again and keep moving forward. Simple things, "My hands are dirty" there's water and soap wash them. Same about cloths, go find a washer and dryer and get them to work. So much more can be added, just have to wait and see what Bethesda is going to do. With Doom coming out soon, FO4 may get the back burner for a little bit.

Like these ideas!

For that, I would add a Settler that is a "Builder". Scrapper can gather all the necessary stuff, Builder then fixes houses.

Not fair counsel users will never be able to enjoy the simplicities of a "spring cleaning" mod :'(

This has been stated before but a snap-to function to rotate things would be nice so I don't have to keep picking up/ setting objects just to turn them around.

Also the ability for walls and prefabs and such to clip through other objects. There are ways to angle yourself and your object so that at just the right moment it will clip through a section of wall or mound of dirt and attach, but it is not always so clear and a bit of a pain in application.

Bigger settlements populations in the largest settlements such as Sanctuary, the Drive in and the large island. I also think it would be nice if they based the max population

on the size of the settlement area. Theoretically at least, you can have the same population size in H.M. Alley as in the Hills or on the large island.

I think that S.H. should be able to hold at least 50-70 settlers and at least 100 on the island. While a very small settlement like H.m. alley shouldn't be able to have more then 10-15.

Some of current existing settlements also needs to be slightly larger. For example Croup Manor which at least could include a small part of the water/shore so that

you could get a purifier down as well as construct a stair case to "street level".

Shift duty for guards. It would be nice if you could have shift duty for guards but it shouldn't be forced but possible for those who want to use it.

So If you have 4 guard posts you could be able to assign up to 8 settlers as guards working 6 hours at the time. I also would like if you could tell

the guards to stay at the same guard post. Together with the shift duty there would be two settlers sharing guard duty for each guard post.

Integrated stairs.

More stores or other assignable "stations".

Scavengers assigned to Scavenger stations should help clean up settlements by scrapping junk/trees and etc.

All trees should be scrapable, currently the largest trees can't be scrapped even with spring cleaning.

Some sort of height markings on constructed sections and buildings in workshop mode, as it is now it can be quite difficult to get two separate buildings to the same height.
