Listening to Coast to Coast AM....

...and George has just said a solar flare may hit us, causing widespread outages and chaos.

Just tell me honestly, if your area was hit by one (as in, your CONTINENT) on November 10, 2011, and you were told power wouldn't be restored, the grid wouldn't be repaired, your PC wouldn't be fixed for weeks and weeks and weeks, how pissed would you be?

Granted, this is assuming your house is fully stocked with food reserves, your bills are paid, any prescriptions you take are filled, your family is well cared for and the only thing you have to do is sit there in candlelight eating your MREs and thinking to yourself for hours on end: "G-damned SUN!"

I think in that case I'd have bigger problems than "No Skyrim! :(".

Well yeah sure that's why I added the caveat about all your basic needs being taken care of at least for the time being.

But let me tell you this. If that or some other catastrophe took place days before Skyrim's release and I had to make a list of the ten things most annoying/tragic/devastating/inconvenient about it, no Skyrim would weigh in somewhere between 7 and 10.

well... ive got enough to food to be twice mormon. so id be pretty damn pissed. i might just loot a generator though.

I'm sorry to have to tell you this, but your system's circuitry is completely fried.

But there isn;t a predicted solar flare in November, and the next one isn't scheduled till next year, and even that won;t do much more than screw up our telecommunications for a few hours.
All the info you need on solar flares is here:

There are very few apocalyptic events that can interfere with Skyrim, and they would all have to take place before the game was shipped to stores in order for me to never be able to play it.

YOU ARE AWESOME!

Thank you for this news. Now I can go back to just worrying about how crappy my system will play it.

There was supposed to be one in June wasn't there... and July... and then August, and maybe I missed one in September? So I wouldn't worry too much about these predictions. The state of the economy is probably a more valid concern, but who knows?

On a more positive note, there are now no intervening months between the release! :celebration:YES

A solar flare actually might be more preferable than trying to pass the time away playing Gothic 4 ?

It's called "Looting" I would have 4 copies of CE, the cardboard cut out of dovahkin and probally a few other games for when the powers restored... What? Oh i'm just saying what everyone of you is thinking!!!!

Hey Hipster, do you mind putting my mind at ease regarding other apocalyptic events? Specifically, and in more or less this order of concern, economic collapse, super virus, asteroids/comets, nuclear meltdown, nuclear terrorism, nuclear war, Yellowstone caldera, super earthquake, super hurricane/tsunami, alien invasion and the Large Hadron Collider generating a black hole that will svck up the Earth and my unopened copy of Skyrim.

(Tongue placed firmly in cheek.... For most of them, anyway)
