A little bit confused about weapon damage.

Post » Mon Dec 12, 2011 11:02 pm

So i was looking at the skyrim wiki at the Mace of Malog Bal page. I noticed that it said the damage varies and that it depends on your level. I don't really get how this works. I just started playing skyrim 3 days ago and right now im a level 5 two/one handed warrior and i just finished Bleak Falls Barrow. Anybody care to explain?
Thanks!

When you find a leveled item, like that mace, its stats depend on what level you are when you found it.

The possible loot of exotic items scales with your level say at level 10 it could be 30 damage with skills and at level 20 it could be 45 or 50 with appropriate skills just depends sometimes

Your skill level raises damage, so if you have a high skill level in One-Handed, you will have a higher damage with weapons under that skill than you would of weapons under Two-Handed, even if the Two-Handed weapon is of better type than the One-Handed weapon.

The other factor that sometimes comes into play with some weapons is your actual level, wherein everything in the game will scale according to how high a main level you are, including what enemies you are likely to face and what kinds of loot you will find in chests and dungeons, and how strong some items that are quest rewards will be when you gain them. So if finish a given quest at level 33 instead of at level 3, you might find yourself being rewarded with a more powerful weapon or a better piece of armor with better enchantments than you would have received at level 3.

Most of the "unique"(named, special....) items scale to your level, so technically, it's better to go deadric and rare hunting at higher levels, so you get the more powerfull variants.
