Little bit harder overhaul mod?

Post » Fri Jul 30, 2010 2:44 am

I am not a big fan of hard games, but at the same time Fallout is a bit too easy. I have checked out alot of the overhaul mods and most of them seem to make the game to much harder. I am using combat AI mods, which make enemys much smarter and stuff that causes more damage. Is there something that makes loot a little rarer, and items a little more expensive to buy? Say half of what you normally find and 50% more cost? I don't want the game that much harder, but I would like it harder. And if possible even less leveled, I know its better than Oblivion and I know there is no OOO, but perhaps something that changes the min level for areas, so instead of 10 perhaps 13.

The new FWE 5.0, whose thread should be on the frontpage, does what you're looking for, and is extremely customizable. You can adjust loot rarity at 5 different levels, and even have varying levels for different kinds of loot. And MMM increased increased spawns should make your game slightly harder ;)

Arwen's Realism Tweaks also accomplishes most of what you seek as well. I highly recommend it.

They seemed to make the game too much harder which is not want I want. I don't care about "realism" this is a game and I want to have fun, I use to like hard games but not anymore I just want to play and have a good time, getting overly frustrated because I can't survive 10 mins is not my idea of fun. I don't mind some hard areas(I actually like that, Final Fantasy games always had that kind of thing, some optional super hard bosses and dungeons) but not the whole game.

FOOK2 is more the 'fun' overhaul. It's fairly close to vanilla, but adds tons of stuff to play with.

Hey Kefka, I feel like I need to clarify some things about my mod, and my reasons for making it.

The first time I played though the Main Quest, I found FO3 to be way too easy, so I looked for an overhaul that would make the game more challenging. But I could not find what I wanted . . . all the overhauls seemed to focus on making FO3 a better FPS, and I wanted an overhaul that made the game a better RPG. Then I figured out why: I'm a girl gamer . . . I don't play games the way the most guys do . . . and all the overhauls seem to be made by guys. So I decided to fix that . . . by learning how to mod, so that I could fix the game the way that I wanted it to be fixed. My Realism Tweaks is the result.

My mod does make the game much more challenging, but I didn't make it so hard that game play is no longer any fun. Why would I do that? I made this mod for me, and I'm a BIG fan of fun.

What you will find with my mod is that your stats will become VERY important . . . in how your game will actually play out. Plus I balanced things out between the PC and the NPC, which mean that the PC will not be god-like after a few level ups. And you will no longer be able to go from a cap-less Vault escapee to the wealthiest Wastelander after just a few levels. And you will NOT be able to easily take on a whole pack of Raiders at level 2, without hardly getting a scratch. You'll have to actually use some strategy to survive, and you'll have to rely on stealth much more, and you'll have to be smart enough to run away from battles when the odds are against you.

And your really shouldn't judge my mod (or any other mod) by its title. This is from my mod's description:
"Oh, before you get the wrong idea, I need to explain what I mean by "realism." For me, a RPG is more realistic when I can role-play without having to work at it. My Realism Tweaks are my efforts to make FO3 more immersive and more realistic within the context of Fallout's alternate reality (which is a place where radiation causes mutations as often as death, and where crippled limbs can be healed with a stimpack injection). Since FO3 is actually supposed to be a RPG and not a FPS, one of my goals has been to enhance the RPG aspects of the game, where your Skills and Stats are much more important in how your game will play out for you. If you use my Full_Tweaks (which includes my new Skills module), you will discover that your distribution of SPECIAL points is so MUCH more important than it was in the default game. And, when you leave the Vault, you will now find that the Wasteland may actually feel like a harsh wasteland. This mod is deceptively small, so don't be put off by its small size. It actually includes a LOT of code, which changes over 1300 records, and makes some rather dramatic changes to the game.

I did check out your mod description and sent you a pm to go into further detail. Its just not what I want, but looks very well done.

Oh bring back Morrowind with no leveled enemys that would be great. I want to see the bullcrap monsters even when I am god in the game. Only thing needed to add to Morrowinds way is some super hard areas, it was a bit too fast in Morrowind to get to a god like level, I like getting super powerful but it should take awhile for Fallout 3, I want to be able to max stats(or come close) and get godlike, but I should not start to feel I can take on anything(and buy anything) until at least level 25, and once I get to 30 I should be a nearly unstoppable killing machine.

There were leveled mobs in Morowind, too. ;)
On low levels you would often encounter rats, guars or similar, while at higher levels they would be replaced by deadra.

Anyway, I actually agree with you and am looking for the same thing.
So far I have looked into different overhauls, but none did really what I wanted, because most went too far for my taste.
I recently found "It's bubbly" (formerly Minibalance) which is increasing difficulty a bit without changing too much as long as you don't use all the plugins, but I'm not sure if that's what I'm looking for either.

Also XFO was quite ok, but isn't maintained anymore.

Overall I prefer modular overhauls, because they make it easier to adjust it to your needs.

As Wcstorm11 said, the new FWE 5.0 is extremely customizable. You can tweak and turn on/off most of everything.

But it was so low key, you could run into all kinds of absurd when you were barley able to take on a rat and on the other hand strolling through the bitter coast region while a god and you will encounter a lot of bullcrap, which is great! When it comes to encounters with enemy's:Morriwind better than OB, Fallout better than OB but MW better than Fallout. And with OOO Fallout fails when it comes to OB also, ouch!

I am going to check out FWE 5 I like customizable!

I checked it out and it does not even seem to be an overhaul at all, just a weapon/armor add-on mod with a few other tweaks, though it does seem neat for what it is.

FWE, with some of Arwen's tweaks ported across and some of the weapons and armor I like from FOOK added to appropriate leveled lists. Why not have the best of all worlds. Of course - this will be easier to say with certainty after I finish installing and tweaking everything.

God bless the guys who made FO3Edit, I mean good grief it is a brilliant tool for all that kind of stuff (also love how intuitive the conflict displays are, yellow for visual conflicts and red for stat conflicts). Are there versions of it for MW and OB?

FWE 5.0 is AWESOME! You can adjust everything, I don't care for a lot of the preset options, but it does not matter because I can change them to what I want, its great!
