Kinda makes you wonder what times do the raiders come to attack your settlement(s)?
It's nice when the raiders come to you for a change.

Just after lunch so they don't miss dinner, raiders love dinner.
Just imagine all the loot you can get from the piles of bodies that amass at the entrances, mwahaha.
Hopefully they rig the first few with dynamite so it can be like creepers all over again.
Haha, that makes me think... some modder is bound to add in Minecraft mobs that try to attack settlements, or at least it seems inevitable to me. It would be hilarious to see creepers try to squeeze their way through.
I'm hoping it's a bit like Skyrim .. but with a much, much longer spawn time between attacks. I also hope there's ways to permanently stop attacks.. Either by building a good enough defense system or physically going out and tracking down the raiders that are attacking your settlement.
Two things I know of that could make settlements really annoying...
1. You're out in the middle of nowhere and you get a message stating that a settlement is under attack. You now have to run back to the settlement to defend it or risk losing it.
2. It's a time based spawn system but the spawn rate is really close together so that every single time you return home, your settlement is under attack. (this always happened to me in Skyrim.. every single time I went to a homestead, something was attacking it. It basically made it so that I didn't even worry about completing homes until close to end game.)
I wonder what point your settlement has to reach before it catches the attention of raiders, what triggers it? Amount of panels you've placed? Having people living there? Manning your first guard post or setting up the first turret?

I've been wondering this myself. I'm hoping a small settlement won't attract much attention, but I will put defenses in just in case.
I'm wondering if you can create a maze filled with traps.
If I remember correctly, I read an article and I think Pete said that the size of the settlement did increase the rate of attack. I just hope that they put in a mechanism that slows then down or stops them after your settlement gets large enough and have successfully repelled like 4 attacks in a row (success defined by no loss of life for your settlement). Otherwise it will become a pretty easy loot drop where you don't even need to travel far to sell it.
I also want to know if I can place turrets inside of a building. The settlement that I want most for myself, and no settlers, is the one that overhangs the water and looks fully enclosed. Hiding turrets inside would attract less attention than outside. No matter the number of settlements I build, and how large they get, I plan to keep one all to myself.
I'd definitely like to see some actual strategy involved when they attack... If there's a trap at the entrance, shouldn't they destroy that first, before going forward? Maybe have just the first guy blow up on it, but then have them disable it and continue.
Feral Ghoul attacks should be savage straight-forward and highly suicidal, but raiders should be organized. From the footage we've seen, it looks they're going to be pretty dumb and suicidal.
Hmm.. Can I build up turrets and defense first without attracting attention?
Then I can feel relatively safe when I plop down my first house, food, or whatever starts the raider flow.
If ANY settlement items get the ball rolling, then we will have to babysit until it can defend itself without us,
I suspect raiders won't notice your settlement until you set beds, water, and food. Upon doing that, you'll start attracting people, and then raiders will notice you.
I'm curious as to what happens if the raid succeeds. Do you just lose resources? Do some of your NPC's die? Is your home and everything in it destroyed (Oh No! My Comic Books!)? Can your stop keepers die ... forever? Can a lost settlement just be rebuilt as if nothing happened?
I mean there needs to be some incentive to care about the attacks right?
"Oh, man...they burned down my defenses, killed all the people, stole all the food, and someone took a dump on my bed."
i wonder how you will find out, i mean u are on a quest on the other side of the map, and u get a warning??? if that is the case fast traveling to the location feel weird =S
I'm...not a fan of the way settlement attacks seem to work. The AI seems suicidally stupid. Shouldn't a Raider be thinking, "gee, this guy is launching mortars at us, those two machine gun turrets just took down Jeff and Dave, and Steve got incinerated by a bunch of flamethrowers the second he crossed the threshold; I'm carrying a rusty pipe gun, and my armor is a car tire and a moving blanket..."? Instead, their entire thought process seems to be, "CHARGE!!!" They should avoid larger, more heavily defended settlements, not attack them with greater frequency.
For a change? Compared to when?
Was random raider attacks a problem in the past?
