Little Marketing

Post » Fri May 13, 2011 3:16 pm

Hey all.
I work at GameStop and it's just come to my attention that NO ONE KNOWS ABOUT THIS GAME?! I've been pushing for pre-orders on this game and it seems like no one even heard of it. Whats up Brink Devs? Where's the marketing? I don't have any posters or demo's to show customers!!!

Currently I have been able to get around 30 pre-orders at my store alone.

Need the marketing for this awesome game.

I'd imagine they would push for marketing in a month, when the release date is closer.

But I agree, why not start the marketing months ago? You'd have so much more pre-orders!

There's a two page all in the inside front page of last month's (I think) GameInformer.
Also, a few adds have been seen on Youtube as well.

I don't think they're going to spend too much money on marketing until that month before it's released. A month is still enough for plenty of pre-orders. This game isn't going to be as popular as Halo or Call of Duty (for reasons that have been explained in other threads) so there's not really millions upon millions to spend on marketing.

Not to mention that Brink has been at pretty big at PAX East this year and E3 '10.

Well I've been having to take more time to explain what the game is when trying to get this pre-order. I have no posters or videos (my store does not have a GameStop guide, you know that touch screen video thing) and I have actually been having to refer customers to the website to check out videos.
I think this is a great great game and I really need some kind of like, demo disk or something that can loop videos on an xbox (ps3 already in use with looped ps3 games EXCEPT brink)

Some posters and Dev diaries playing on looped videos on the xbox interactive would be awesome so that I can actually show off brink. Brink does have a deal with gamestop where you get extra content for pre-ordering but it's still hard to get people interested when all i have to go on is grabbing a gameinformer and showing them an add...

I wish my computer could write CD's/DVD....

I hope a marketing brink team member is reading this. SEND SOME POSTERS!!!! lol I want to have a midnight launch. hype the game up. show off the Smart system. come out with a demo! something!

I have 3 videos I think would be great. Start with chior of guns, then matter of class, then the video that explains in more depth the smart system. these 3 videos would greatly hype the game to any shooter fans. I just need a disc to loop these 3 videos. I don't have a PC that works =(

speaking of which, I need to head to work so, 3DS came out today... ugh going to be so busy...

Brink Devs! I'm telling you, more people knew about homefront or crysis 2 than than brink. I'd say 1 out of 15 people have heard about brink and even less have actually watched a video... You guys need to show this game off!!!!

Well I know ign, gamestop and pennyarcade have all run ads on their site for Brink. As a matter of fact I was surprised at how much stuff Im seeing for a game that is 2 months away. Generally only big gamers care about preorders that far out. Most of them go to sites like the above mentioned(I'm sure there are others.) As we get closer to release, well see more advertising.

Hm, this topic has been discussed before, too.

Anyway, I guess Bethesda won't put too much money into a game which might not be super-uber-successful. Advertising one month in advance is probably the best thing to do. So people won't forget about BRINK halfway towards release.

Nooo say it ain't so i really don't want this game to fail. Ive told ten people they had to check the game out and they all got pre orders but I feel that everyone has to spread the word for the game or people wont hear about it.

I'm sure advertisemants will be over the place as others have said a month before the game comes out. Advertisemants especially on tv cost a lot of money. So a month before is typically a reasonable amount of time to work towards getting people who don't know about this game. (Which in my book is heresy and for that you must be purged with fire)

Pre release advertising for any games outside of the BIG franchises has become less than successful because of how the internet works.

Many reviews will come out close to release, many vids will come out close to release, so spending a lot on advertising becomes redundant. Lay down the teaser adds that get people to say "What's Brink?" and they'll find the material to advertise it to themselves.

I am so tired of over hyped and under developed games. Again my hope for Brink is their focus is to under hype and over develop (is that even possible?) there by becoming a sleeper success. If Brink is as good as they say and show it will not be unheard of very shortly. Just maybe other developers could learn from SD by not releasing a game until it is ready and not by some mega corporations time frame but by the developers time frame.

I recently opened a Gamepro magazine and the first two pages has an advertisemant for Brink. Gamespot's background will usually have a Brink background with trailers and a banner. Their advertising their game, but some people won't care about Brink.

Word of mouth, people, WE are the advertisers.

OP, informing customers of the amazingness of Brink is your job, and you're doing it better than the guys at my local Gamestop. I really haven't heard a word about this game from anyone. I've been the one selling it to friends. Keep at it, dude.
