Little Things and Big Differences

Post » Sun Apr 17, 2011 8:02 pm

This post is for the little things which you would like implemented into Skyrim
Here is my top 3
1. Hair growth, if I've been exploring caves months on end I think I would have a long beard and hair, along with that I would like to have a barber to sot out that bad hair day.
2.More game which we can hunt because all we had in Oblivion was deer :sadvaultboy:
3. Improve horses (Red Dead Redemption really stepped up the bar for that)
So what is your top 3?

1) Impressive, deep, intricate, unforgettable story
2) A great and mature RPG experience: choices and consequences, rich dialogue, multiple choices and outcomes for quests
3) An exceptional effort-reward balance: non leveled loot, unique artifacts hidden all over the land, coherent perks system that makes each playthrough feel different, rival factions that are hard to join and exponentially harder to master, very difficult and very rewarding special missions designed for thieves.

I like all of these except the hair growth one. Just because whether or not a character has facial hair is because I want them to look like that and stay like that lol. Mine:

1. Preventing the removal of skills in future games by making them more useful and fun now. Like making Speechcraft a viable, but realistic gameplay option, making Security more fun and useful, that kind of thing.
2. More alchemy ingredients. Why do some ingredients appear in one game and never return, yet I can find super rare armor in any store? They could be imported and only available in stores if it doesn't make sense for them to grow naturally.
3. Spears and Xbows. I don't actually care if they are in or not gameplay wise I just want everyone asking about them to stop. That way more interesting things can be discussed.

Just nope, Hair Growth is just annoying, simple as. You get your character just how you like them, then it's all ruined as the hair grows, I found it especially annoying in Fable... More so because to actually grow, the growth rates were unrealistic. Hair grows at about half an inch a month... yet because games rarely go for years, the growth rate just gets highly accelerated to compensate which is far less realistic then just not having hair growth at all.

I am guessing this is gunna stay at 3 little things to implement?

1. Capes and Cloaks... that is realistic and stylish clothing, it annoyed me in oblivion how I could grab a neatly folded up dress, toss it in the air, then when it came back down, it'd still be a neatly folded dress... unrealistic clothing was a bit too noticeable.
2. More dynamic characters... Oblivion had some great story lines, ashame there were only about 10 different voice actors that sounded almost the same on nearly every character that they voiced.
3. Exhaustion... characters in Oblivion showed no signs of weakening for continued amounts of fighting, running or jumping... characters should show signs of exhaustion, regeneration rates of Magicka and Fatigue should drop as more regeneration is used.

You, sir, should be the head the design team for every game to be made from this day forward.

1) Spellmaking.
2) Non generic non respawning NPC enemies. So, not 'bandit' but 'Othrelar Hlaalo'.
3) Levitation, teleportation, jump, slowfall, lock and sanctuary.

1 : Being able to find and track down animals, following their tracks or the blood left behind if you miss vital parts on the animal.

2: Facial expressions!!!!!!!! emotions in npc's faces :)

3 : Some extremely well hidden caves and loot.

1. Some connection between interiors and the outside world, I want to be able to look out of windows, even if it's just the area outside the building with no npc AI involved. I especially want to be able to see and hear rain on the windows if it is stormy out. It makes a HUGE difference. Also windows lighting up at night.

2. Critters and wildlife, birds, fireflies, fish, etc.

3. More variety in types of armor and weapons, at all levels. I am replaying Oblivion and when you start the game, ALL you ever see is either Leather or Fur armor, and iron weapons. There should be much more variety, even if the weapon stats are identical. I'm fine with the swords at the beginning of the game only doing 1 damage, but they should at least have some variety of design.

This is an easy fix. Take a "Stunt hair growth" potion, it stops untill you take an "Accelerate hair growth" potion.

...

Now I want to poison my arrows with high-level "accelerate hair growth" poisons that will cause enemies to suddenly sprout huge beards when hit.

Please, no.
It's not as immersive as some people may think, in fact it's a lot more annoying.

It happened enough times with me in Morrowind, where I peacefully walk into a ruin only to see some people in there. Because apparently people in Morrowind have tunnel vision and they're mentally [censored], I can just walk over to them talk to them a while then they would attack me.
Now if I would know they were bandits I could've just attacked them....

A better lower body rig so robes, dresses, etc aren't glued to the PC/NPCs thighs.

3 little things-

1. If you are wearing a coat of some kind with a hood, it would be cool if you could put the hood up or down. Use the dpad for that on the xbox or something

2. When you run into a mountain or a huge pile of boulders, or a tree, instead of being able to keep running you should either be stopped by the pile of boulders, or depending on how fast you are running, get knocked down by the impact. it would really add to the athletic immersion.

3. Being able to climb trees... it would be awesome for sniping people with your bow, or being able to get away from an enemy that is stronger and faster then you. haha

Not really, there are several issues that would also arise, firstly with modding. Since modders that wish to make hair styles would have to dictate how hair grows, which a) leads to much more complex modding, b) could lead to many broken hair styles and c) have issues with restoring custom hair styles if "hair dressers" are used. Also you still haven't referred to the main point that hair growth in every game it's ever appeared in is unrealistic, it is too quick and grows in ways that hair just wouldn't grow, even if one were to be exploring caves for days. Since hair does not grow much over a few days and that's more an issue of styling, which if you were to impose hair styling on the game, would be far to micromanagement like and really just kill the game. I mean you are talking about literally going 28 days before your hair would grow an Inch. If you got a shaved head, it'd be a month before you had enough hair to even attempt to comb in real life, in most games, that hair is already down to the back of the neck... if you got it shaved off, even in the entire play through it'd realistically never get long enough to past the back of the neck... unless you played well past all the content...

The only thing I could possibly wish for that I don't know is in already is a map like Morrowind's, where it go highlighted as you explored it. It made me sad that I didn't know which litttle nooks and crannies in Oblivion I missed because of not being able to keep track.

1. Timed Quest: Take an NPC who lost their dog and asks you for help. If you take weeks to respond to the help after you agree to help, maybe you fail the quest because the dog did not survive.

2. Require in game sleep every so often in order for the player to receive full stamina. (in Oblivion I stopped sleeping at one point because I didn't want to level and have NPCs level up with me)

3. Require food / drink every once in a while for the player to be able to receive full health. (health potions may be able to fill the health bar only if the person is nourished enough)

1. Umbra
2. Werewolves

(Jk, but I do want those two...)

1. I'd really like to see different reactions from people in the same faction as me, things like that. Sure in Oblivion they'd say something along the lines of "hello [insert my rank in particular guild here]" I dunno, I just want it to feel like me and my guildmates are actually comrades.
2. I'd like to see NPCs get drunk. I really would, it'd be fun.
That's all the "little" things I can think of...

1. NPC reactions to weather. For example, if it's raining NPC's will wear more clothing, shut windows and doors, spend more time inside, hurry from place to place if they have to go outside. If there's a massive blizzard, NPC's won't go outside at all unless necessary, hug themselves for warmth, walk slower due to snow build up. Things like that.

2. Weather effects on the player. Eg. looking up when it's raining will cause the screen to blur. Perhaps having wet armour will cause it to degrade (if this is a feature) faster, meaning you have to repair sooner. Snowstorms will slow actions/movement slightly and maybe slowly sap health/cause stamina to regen slower unless the player is wearing cold weather clothing.

3. Fluid melee combat. My main turn off with Oblivion was the incredibly cumbersome and slow melee system. This is a big thing for me as I always prefer to play entirely melee classes in RPG games. I would like to see combat much closer to Dark Messiah: Might and Magic (if anyone has played it). The melee in that game is incredibly satisfying. Apparently Arkane Studios (Dark Messiah developers) got bought by ZeniMax so with any luck, the combat will be much better than previous Elder Scrolls games.

1. That would be a whole new element to the environment. That would be intense.
2. Yes! Half-Life 2 did a great job at this, especially the following episodes.

Little stories/back stories around the world. Fallout 3 had a bunch of these and I loved them.

Tattoo's maybe even certain tattoo's or patches you can attach to your clothing you get for becoming say arena champion so you are recognised by NPC's walking past etc.
