well it worked in gta 4. it had fun "real life" mechanics that were dumbed down enough to be fun in a game. and even for the people that don't have time for that kind of thing, and think immersion is boring, and hate the options for having an honest way to make money, these choices would be optional.

i think what makes the elder scrolls what it is is the fact that you can but you don't have to. just the feeling that you have the option makes the world feel more real.

The fact is that it didnt work for GTA IV, infact it was a huge dispointment and probly on of the most annoying things ever made. GTA IV was like rollercoaster that stopped every 10 min, like it was runned by british rail. It forced me to driver over and pick up a [censored] NPC buddy, pretend to have fun and then drive him back again. I felt like the game itself tryed to pull me away from playing the acctual game, like its got confidence issues. GTA has now taken a right turn at the corner of fun and realism, and Im not sure that the is the best direction for GTA.

In GTA San Andreas the missions was insane, like stealing a plane and crashing it into a dam. It was fun. In GTA IV you have get of the rollercoaster every ten min to pick up your friend, and there was times when i wondered if the next mission was "write a letter to your mom mission". GTA IV had confidece issues, and it was showing very well. Thats always been TES' biggest streght that you can infact do whatever you want, the game does not force you away from doing whatever you want.

And I really hope Skyrim wont try to pull you away from playing the acctual game like GTA IV did. GTA tried to bring realism and failed. I hope Bethesda doesnt "force" you into doing things like woodcutting in the same way GTA IV "forced" you into spending time with your NPC buddies.

What if you were just living a normal life, and a great dragon swoops down from the sky and sets the village in flames? So long for the quiet life then. Unless you just look for another place to continue your normal life, but I think most people would want to do something.

that sounds like an excellent way to start a Role play character. I think I may actually use that when I RP... so thanks.

I completely agree. I often roleplay in Morrowind. But even with the mods and depth of the game, it is hard. They really need to look at the non-combat aspects of the game.

Meh, if I wanted that I'd play Sims. (Which I currently am. :D )
Or just, yknow, go out... But it's cold outside... So I choose escapism, in the fictional world I have a husband and 2 kids!

But really though, I really don't care if we can live a normal life in Skyrim, not that I'd do it, hell no, I gotta go shout at people.

. . .inviting NPCs whole like you (or who you've just met) out to do something. For example, go hunting together, go to a tavern together, if you are in a small town, visit a city together. . .

This is a great idea... And you know what, they could easily implement this idea, since they have already been talking about all the companions you can have.

I'd like it, maybe a option for like making your own house (Totally would). And you could have a family, and would have to provide for them, and yourself.

I'll be testing this with my Orc Alchemist. I'm gonna be a merchant or something and only take the randomized quests.

1.) Sounds really boring

2.) You got way, way to much time

3.) My biggest fear is that TES V: Skyrim turns out to be TES V: Normal_Boring_Life. I would rather watch Britney Spears solve a Sudoku puzzle than fooling around trying to live a normal life in Skyrim. I would really hate seeing bethesda bringing "normal jobs" into TES, making it a sentral part of the game. And yes i know this makes many of you mad, but as always, I'm ok with it. TES has always been fun, let's hope Bethesda doesnt bring in the boring.

Actually, watching Britney Spears do a Sudoku puzzle could be pretty entertaining for awhile.

Just imagine..

"Why are there so many numbers on here. I don't get it. Where's my beer?? I can't see straight. Oops I think I puked on this puzzle thingy..."

with minning, smithing and farming ect included in the game it gives the player a chance to create his player's story in the game. for example simple blacksmith in a small town, friendly with his locals and a regular at the local tavern. Then one night ends up accidently killing someone in a drunken bar fight. DB visits him and his life changes and so on

I think a lot of the "jock" gamers might be missing the point. No one's trying to keep you from you'r smashing and bashing.

But for the rest of us nerdier players, these sort of options really help with creating our character and story. If you've never eaten an apple in Oblivion because you'r character was hungry then you might not grasp this.

I never really create character backgrounds or anything. I never ate an apple because i'm hungry, i need the game to tell me that I'm hungry.

But i understand the want for "living a normal life". TES should be like a real world where you can do whatever you want. Obviously the main focus should be the quests/factions because TES is based off of this idea, but It'd be cool to have "realistic" fantasy cities that accommodate a play-style where you CAN just decide to settle down and live for a while.

When you are there, you're prolonged presence in a city could effect the economy in a large way. if you supply a lot of cheap lumber, arrows will be cheap to make/sell. The merchants would want to export more arrows from that city to other cities, expecting a large demand from cities that have much more expensive arrows, so traveling merchant caravans would increase their arrow stock.

It's be cool to see these effects actually happen

Of course, there's always the chance a dragon might disturb you're little vacation.

I think it should be said that having other "normal" activities to do in Skyrim doesn't necessarily go hand in hand with roleplaying. I have no interest in roleplaying, but I would still enjoy other ways to play TES simply because running around smashing and bashing things can get a bit boring after a while.

These two categories of gamers - "jocks" who are only interested in running around fighting things and "nerds" who are hardcoe roleplayers - are really extremes. I think most people who play TES are somewhere in the middle.

Why wow is everyone so against this? O__O

I understand it sometimes you just Want to take a break yet still play the game, I know I will be, maybe not right at first but I will atleast do it later on when I consider a break is needed from doing my Role Playing , I mean I RP pretty realistic, I mean who among us can really go and fight a dragon, kill it, and not want to celebrate by going for a mug of mead or two> I mean what fun is there in killing a mighty beast than just going "oh, well on to the next quest" ? :/

Yeah this sounds like the worst idea ever.

Hey, I can make a badass Nord warrior who runs around the world with dual axes destroying enemies and creatures in my path.....OR, and hear me out...I can become a baker.

FFS man, get a job in real life, walk around and chill in real life. People do it all the time and are actually quite good at it. Video games are for having fun, and games like Skyrim are for running around in viking armor with bastard swords rearranging the guts of a dragon.

Get it together, bro.

Who was this directed to? You are going to have to understand not everyone is like you, not everyone plays games like, role playing games is to ROLE PLAY and depending on who you are you do it diffrently, I tend to do what the game allows me awhile being realistic when I RP as well, for example: if I got out of a touch battle with a dragon, my health might be full now but I might want to set my character to bed even tho its still light out......Or I may make her just take a full day or rest if I feel like it and do nothing else but buy a house, furnish it, than take a hour or 2 nap than go back out and do something else.

Oh man it's gonna be so awesome to try and roleplay a civilian type.
Just try to live as normal as possible, woodcutting and stuff.
Then one day, you're out hunting deer, and you stumble upon a dragon and since you haven't been really focusing on combat and such,
you aren't nearly prepared to take it on.
So you run to the nearest cave and it ends up holding one of the power words.
That's when the quest truly begins.
Farking sweet :toughninja:

Spend the morning hunting deer with my Bow & Arrow, the afternoon walk home alongside a scenic river/lake, and an evening trading my wares at my local merchant outlet. Rinse and repeat until I get killed by a dragon.
