Actually i was thinking of making one of my characters a non-combat character. I'll just have him chop some wood, cook and maybe hunt a bit.

well I can chill just fine in real life

garden

BUT I do hope the game is that immersive and that deep that I will actually take time to "chill" instead of killing stuff all the time. :)

Well, you could do that in Oblivion, so I don't see why you wouldn't be able to in Skyrim.

Without getting bored is difficult. Some people are bored very fast. But of all similar games, Tes is by far the game where you can do more things and "role play" all sorts of weird occupations. The professions and the radiant quests will help a lot, I hope.

I think it'd be great if they put in options for like, inviting NPCs whole like you (or who you've just met) out to do something. For example, go hunting together, go to a tavern together, if you are in a small town, visit a city together. Without turning it into Fable, obviously. I think that kind of thing could be done with mods too, as well as like (rated E) marriage and kids.

1.) Sounds really boring

2.) You got way, way to much time

3.) My biggest fear is that TES V: Skyrim turns out to be TES V: Normal_Boring_Life. I would rather watch Britney Spears solve a Sudoku puzzle than fooling around trying to live a normal life in Skyrim. I would really hate seeing bethesda bringing "normal jobs" into TES, making it a sentral part of the game. And yes i know this makes many of you mad, but as always, I'm ok with it. TES has always been fun, let's hope Bethesda doesnt bring in the boring.

Do survival/hardcoe mode. Get a house. You could just hunt for food, and do various jobs for money (hunting, lumberjack, fishing?). Maybe do some thieving. Do a couple of the less dangerous quests in town and you wouldn't get bored too fast. I know i wouldn't last very long though.

Sure you can. Just ignore the bunch of dragons circling above the Shire, any maybe they'll ignore you.

But I don't really understand why you would want to play Skyrim if you just want to sit around and smoke your pipe... If I want to chill, I'll go outside and sit in the garden. The real one, that is. :)

Getting bored will probably be unavoidable. These games are designed for making quests and fighting things, there won't be many features that make the quiet life interesting.

It would be nice to do a little fishing and make a few gold pieces from it. Maybe cach something a bit rarer occasionally, like Hermaeus Mora lol. I used to love fishing in UO back in the old days, wish it was included in Skyrim.

Well I've heard that you can do some stuff and...

oh without getting bored? HAHA. Impossible.

you can do normal non combat stuff and stayed entertained in OB, like hunting or farming (although farming was kinda based on you RP'ing that a particular npc's farm was actually yours) I don't think the OP meant just standing around and doing nothing when he or she said chill. with things like smithing and wood cutting I imagine people will be able to role play as non essential characters.

I agree it would be nice, but if this "together" is without rich dialogue support, it doesn't really feel like "together", it's just a walking corpse, like you summoned someone with a spell to help you.

What if you were just living a normal life, and a great dragon swoops down from the sky and sets the village in flames? So long for the quiet life then. Unless you just look for another place to continue your normal life, but I think most people would want to do something.

The way skyrim sounds it's more plausible then oblivion for this, tho these games are designed for the fighting aspect. I suppose there are semi-violent career paths too, like traveling merchant that might be possible too, having to fight off bandits and highwaymen (or pay them off). Really it's going to based on your interest in really trying it out and your preference... most people just aren't gunna be that interested in all of this... since it's not a game really designed for it...

Why would you even have that fear? The biggest selling point, the part that they're advertising all over the place, is that you are FIGHTING DRAGONS, and you're worried about TES being "normal boring life"? A very unfounded fear. ;)

I could still play an average joe in Oblivion, just by using a little bit of imagiantion. I could eat and sleep every day, buy a book to read before bedtime, wash my clothes in the water at the Imperial City Waterfront, tons of things and it took a while to get bored. I imagine Skyrim will be just like that if not better, but it's certainly not sacrificing being a badass warrior like all of the other games in order to do so.

I'd rather that Bethesda would spend time working on Story line & quests rather then something that most people would get quickly bored of and never use.

Fishing and the sort would be cool, for a while at least but I'd rather have it as something you can choose to do on side, not a main thing.

That would be my fear as well. Who knows, if it's not in, I have some good recording equipment and know a lot of people who (oddly enough), are or have been actors, singers, etc. and I've been known for my diversity of voices and accents. I'd love to have a project like that to work on.

yeah maybe like a more dynamic version of the gta 4 friend mechanic. this would be cool.

Exactly, except with basically any NPC. I think they'll have added in a lot more in terms of "benefits" for being friends with NPCs, and stuff you can do together. I'm excited.

well it worked in gta 4. it had fun "real life" mechanics that were dumbed down enough to be fun in a game. and even for the people that don't have time for that kind of thing, and think immersion is boring, and hate the options for having an honest way to make money, these choices would be optional.

i think what makes the elder scrolls what it is is the fact that you can but you don't have to. just the feeling that you have the option makes the world feel more real.

Dovahkiin: "Well, the world is going to be destroyed, and I'm its unique possibility of salvation. Bah, I think I'll live a tranquil life and forget about all of that Dragonborn stuff."

It sound quite strange... but I suppose it's possible.
