Live Update for CTR Boosting [Update 09/06]

The issues introduced with this latest live update have been resolved. Next time you log into MP it should be working correctly :)

Also, please note that these changes are not final. Just as easily as they can be deployed, they can be altered, so please keep your feedback coming regarding the XP boosting changes!

Hi everyone,

A live update is heading to all 3 platforms very shortly. The aim of this update is to counter XP boosting in Capture the Relay. In it's previous form, you would earn 100XP for returning your teams relay. This scoring method was being abused by boosters (boo, hiss).

The adjustments we've made to the scoring system mean that now instead of getting 100XP for returning your relay and 300XP for an enemy relay capture you now get 400XP for capturing the enemy relay but 0XP for returning your relay.

We feel this is a good compromise/reward and a way to invalidate boosting. Now, in order to boost XP, you need to actually play the game properly (go from point A to point B!) :) As per all previous live-updates, all you need to do in order to apply it is exit the MP menu and go back in (it's applied when you open MP).

You still get 100XP for killing the carrier. Yes, there is less incentive to run over and pick up your dropped relay but we felt that being part of the game and a necessary move for your team to win, the lack of XP reward outweighed the XP boosting.

It would have been pretty cool if the relay return bonus was increased depending on how close it was to being delivered. A relay that didn't go anywhere would give you 0 xp, but a relay right near the enemy relay could give you 500 xp.

Instead, we get this quick fix that must have taken all of 30 seconds to implement. This comes after this problem has been in the game for months, and after the double xp weekend.

Thanks Adam i like this compromise. I mean we already deal with hackers! I don't know if you know this yet or not. But now hackers are now hiding the names somehow and you cant vote kick or ban them as a admin. they are getting more smarter. My suggestion is Crytek need to have a dedicated team to kill hackers. there is no place in multiplayer gaming for hackers. but they are here and not going anyplace anytime soon. But this update is great and i like it a lot. good job crytek.

Fair enough. Could you then consider boosting the overall team reward (more so than other game modes) at the end of a match so that there is an extra incentive to pick up the relay ASAP?

So now you will just have people waiting for the next person to pick up the relay and kill them for the 100XP. You just turned a a minor problem into a worse problem, IMO.

Adam, you could have simply transfered the bonus from returning the relay to the killing the relay carrier.

If you will someday anwer my PM, we could solve issues like this - without the negativity from the community.

So now you will just have people waiting for the next person to pick up the relay and kill them for the 100XP. You just turned a a minor problem into a worse problem, IMO.

I agree. The XP bonus is supposed to provide incentive for picking up the relay. Now, players who are driven to gain XP will camp the relay instead of actually returning it, fixing one problem and now turning it into another in which it doesn't benefit the team.

Grinding svcks adam, couldnt you make a way to skip all the grinding needed to unlock? Or how about a payment method to unlock everything at once, I wouldn't be opposed to skipping 50 hours of grinding for 5-10$ or I'd like to get the game for friends and buy them a "grind-free" pass IE unlock everything.

Think about it, free money, more happy consumers. <3

I would deal with this compromise like I do with most updates, but I feel there could've been a better compromise this patch.

There could've been a score-checker that measures the amount of points gained per person in terms of relay returning. Once they reach a certain threshold they start diminishing returns until they score no points for returning the relay. The threshold could be something like 10-15 returns ending with 20-25 returns. This would allow people to gain points for returning the relay however the boosters will be limited to how much points they gain per match. The threshold should be set to the reasonable highest amount of times a normal CTR match would have in returns where it would affect the least amount of times.

EDIT: In case I wasn't clear, thank you so much for resolving the CTR boosting problem in any shape or form, hopefully this change will eliminate the amount of times I've walked into the sound of Lockhart and Stricklin[sic] yelling over each other about the relay.

Why are there two leaderboards?

Jackal - Shots Fired:227Hits:107Accuracy:47%Kills:17
so on average something like 6 shells per kill?

Marshall - Shots Fired:56Hits:35Accuracy:62%Kills:12
nearly 3 shells per kill?

xray vision medal picture is just disturbing...

stealth is in the wrong place...

Grendel - Shots Fired:154Hits:0Accuracy:0%Kills:0 BEAT THAT!

Whats 'codpiece' medal?

Im happy it gets fixed but personally id be more happy if i see all the 400+(maybe even more) cheaters removed from the leaderboards. Some numbers are so silly that it makes me wonder what are you doing about them.

Yeh this update broke the game, now the shotgun and gauss attachment has 0 ammo all the time even when you respawn so they are useless, max nanosuits can use stealth, and dog tag streaks nmaes are just squares. Thanks Crytek. WTF DID YOU DO?

I Have a problem with these Live updates Please release it as a patch. I log into multiplayer and cant see a single server. I log out and in several times but I never get the update please release as a patch WTF!!!!!


this happened to me on double XP week end and I couldnt get the live update and now all the servers disappeared

sigh..........already at level 50.....no reason to play this run and gun game....no massive area sandbox to explore....all weapons unlocked now and im bored......thanks for the xp boosting on double xp weekend...26-50 in about 4 hours time...ty cry-unfinished game developer...btw, ea was happy to give me my 59.95 back, and i still have a usable game.......

and to address the xp boosting, all of us that were doing it were the ones saying screw crytek and this unfinished hackable game. such a disappointment it is...yeah the graphics are not bad, but a corridor shooter is just like every other one. Hell cloaking will be available for the new ghost recon later this yeah...maybe ubisoft will have better support and products...


enjoy your run and gun game....all you can do is brag to your family or friends "i got a top score" and they don't even care..
