A living, functioning Vault.

Unless the Chinese decided to drop a Tsar Bomba on Boston, it didn't look very far away to me.

You can calculate the distance between the detonation and the vault by looking at the landmarks in the trailer. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ModI6ruq73Q&app=desktopHere's a video that shows the location of the vault and the detonation.

The point of Vaults is to test the abilities of humans in specific enviroments and their reaction, for a planned annexation to Mars by the Enclave. At least that's what I remember from the FO Bible.

Anyway, we met a couple of functioning vaults:

Vault 21.

Vault 13.

Vault 12. [Necropolis, technically a vault]

Vault 8. [Vault City]

Tsar Bomba was 15 Mil tons. The nukes in the Fallout Universe range from 200-750 kilotons "only".

Tsar Bomba was a 50 megaton bomb that destroyed anything a couple hundred miles away from it. I don't think they have thermonuclear weapons in the Fallout universe, just the small kiloton atom bombs/missiles.

I'd love to see something like Vault City again.

Surely not all vaults were just snuffed off by silly experiments, or once opened had their populace just drift away in the wasteland leaving the whole thing to rust.

I can see a settlement that has its heart a functioning vault who unsealed automatically and unlike most found themelves in a good location to start a settlement or even had a working GECK.

So yeah, actually I for once would like to find a Vault, open in up and not find a bag full of crazy.

Not to be one of those people who keep banging on about the Witcher 3, but I would like to borrow the idea of clearing out an abandoned location to allow people to resettle those areas, including Vaults which would surely provide lots of salvage for a community if nothing else.

Edit: For some reason I forgot about that Vault City would fit that description.

What I rather find interesting is if we will be able to find an unfinished Vault. In the lore it is stated that many of the vaults could not be finished in time before the bombs fell. I wanna find a construction site with the vault door lying outside around and not yet placed in the door frame. When you decide to walk in you'll find an unfinished, not polished and gritty looking place where probably all sorts of stuff bad stuff has settled in already.

There was one in Fallout 2. It was just a hollowed out cave though.

I find the wasteland more interesting, personally, but if they want to include a thriving vault community I wouldn't be against it especially if their trade is good!

I would like to see a Vault that pays homeage to the classic "A Boy and His Dog" and Vault 69. A Male Protagonist enters and never leaves.

Spoiler
because the Residents have removed everything but what is required to have a new source of Genetic Material

A Female character results in the Residents choosing to rejoin Humanity and repopulate the Old Fashioned Way.
