A living, functioning Vault.

Post » Thu Nov 26, 2015 10:17 am

We haven't really seen a working, populated Vault we can visit at any time since Vault 13 in Fallout 1.

Most others being empty, or outright disasters. Which given the theme is to be expected. Vault 101 doesn't count because it's mostly scripted, and we're locked out of it.

Anyone else hoping we might see one this time?

There is of course a large chance that Vault 111 is still functioning if we're to believe the cryostasis theory. How else would the main character have woken up if someone in the vault didn't make him?

Easy, computers. Cryostasis would also imply the Vault isn't an active community like Vault 13 was.

Vault 21 was a normal vault to protect the people of Vegas and once it opened it got turned into a hotel.

You can visit it anytime whenever you enter New Vegas.

Just from what I saw in the trailer it seems the Commonwealth could be much more populated than previous games, so I think we very well could see that.

It's also empty of it's original citizens and used as a hotel. I don't mean "successful" vaults like 21 or 8, or "functioning" vaults like 92 or 111 (assuming this human popsicle thing is true), but ones that have people living inside it still using it as their home "town"

I wouldn't mind that. It bugged me when you got kicked out of 101 after Trouble on the Homefront, maybe this time it'll be a settlement like Megaton or Goodsprings you can live in.

I'm sure there are still some out there, maybe even in Fallout 4 but c'mon...Fallout was always about exploring the wasteland in hope to find some sort of creepy vault where you'll find an awesome experience, don't you think? ;P

The crazier the better.

I'm sure there'll be some delicious vaults to explore in F4. I can't wait.

Sure. Personally though, I like balance in all things.

For example, in Fallout 1 the creepiness of Vault 15 was enhanced because it juxtaposed with Vault 13, which was still shiny, nice and inhabited.

My theory and thinking is 111 will be sort of a safe-house. Surely 111 has amenities for it's people for once they come out of Cryo, unless Vault-Tec just assumes they'll go and wander off. Well...This IS Vault-Tec...

Or it's empty and... here's an idea, populate your own Vault! Get people out of the wasteland and into the safety of a vault suit (whether they like it or not). Be the Overseer!

Yes, finally *I* will be the jerk sitting in the big chair with the miniguns.

Heh, interesting idea but maybe a little out to left field into Mod territory.

I could see it as DLC too, like a suped-up version of Hearthfire.

100%....

....that the vault 111 will be functional. It looks that way since apparently the feel of that trailer looks like....

.

.

.

.

1 You will be starting in it perhaps from a couple months after the holocaust.

.

2 Maybe the character will be searching for people to part of the vault 111 and gather food.

.

3 Maybe we will be cleaning every vault that can be safe.

.

.

.

P.s. I think it might be one of the first 2, if we have a similar plot like fo3 I wont be happy.

It would be impossible to leave the vault just a few months after the war. You would die in a few moments.

I doubt this plot will revolve around who gets to control the giant Britta Filter.

But Fallout 1 was essentially about a water filter.

Part 1 of Fallout 1 was fixing the Eternal Britta Filter.

Part 2 was about stopping a megalomaniacal Pizza The Hutt from giving everyone a Goo Bath.

Depends on where you are ,but I agree a Vault near a big city would have to much background radiation to go out.

If we take the trailer literally, the nuke went off right next to the vault.

I hope so, we haven't really had a functional Vault Settlement that I can remember, not a proper one anyway, apart from Vault 8 in Fallout 2.

A vault where everyone is named david and a door to that much needed gizmo that refuses to open The door to anyone named david.

"Im sorry Dave. I cant let you do that".
Tell machine your name isnt David.
Door opens.

And then you get 3 options:
1) Open door and get gizmo. Install it. Tell Them why. Refuse reward. You get a Nice karma boost, and you get a Nice room akin to the sink.
2) Open door and get gizmo. Install it. Tell them why. They elect you as overseer. No Karma but a more luxorious Overseers office.
3) Open door and get gizmo. Install it. Tell them its keyed to your DNA and that You need something worth your while to "keep comming back". They make You overseer and You get to make some decisions that only benefit you. You rule, and you take a karma hit.
4) You rig The generator for a meltdown. After which you Are free to do as you wish. You leave with your loot and noone is The wiser. Place is sealed but you escape with a ton of loot. Bad karma hit.

We see a nuke detonate basically right next to the vault in the trailer. Stepping out 1-3 months later would result in a quick death.

I wouldn't even say close to the vault. You guys have to remember the Shockwave travels FAR and the mushroom cloud is huge to begin with. Ha a nuclear warhead isn't like a car blowing up like in FO3.

But yes onto the topic, I would love to see a functional vault, something that you somehow enter or open an no one knows what the hell is going on. Like a "1999 Prince Song Vault" ; completely clueless about the world around them.
