Load Order Crashing

Post » Fri Feb 18, 2011 10:59 pm

I decided to download a bunch (at least by my standards) of mods for Oblivion in order to tie myself over for TESV (which hopefully will be announced sometime soon?).

Anyway, Oblivion keeps crashing on me, depriving me of all the wondrous euphoria involved with playing a highly (by my standards) modded Oblivion. :violin:

I tried playing with the load order for quite some time now, but it keeps crashing. I finally caved and got BOSS, but it still crashes even after running the batch file and everything.

I'm running Windows 7 and have User Account Control disabled and I'm running as an administrator.

In addition to all the mods on the list below, I'm also using Qarl's Texture Pack III and Operation Optimization. I have OBSE and OMM. I run Oblivion using the OBSE shortcut thing.
Also, on my new game, I haven't been any of the DLCs yet (most of them actually haven't been loading, I think because of the Alternate Start Revamped mod).

Please help a poor TES player, and I will be very thankful.

I'm hoping that its just one mod I need to disable or something, or just the load order I have to tweak a little bit.

EDIT: I don't have both no Psychic Guards and the harder version working at the same time. One is disabled.

You need to choose one of the No Psychic Guards main plugins. You should not use multiple versions of a mod's main plugin. Also, the "harder" version is broken. Their is a fixed version uploaded on TESNexus, however.

Edit: Try disabling Alternate Start.

Edit: Try regenerating the Oblivion.ini (Documents\My Games\Oblivion) as well.

I actually also don't have the harder version enabled, I have the normal one, but I will delete it now that I know its broken.

Also, one thing I found through trial and error, is that Oblivion starts up with Open Cities disabled! Whats up with that?
Should I load all the associated compatibility patches last?

By the way, Tomlong! You've come to save the day again! :celebration:

EDIT: Tried moving Open Cities compatibility patches last, but it crashed again. It seems to definately be something with Open Cities, I think.

EDIT 2: I disabled all Open Cities and the compatibility patches and it seems to run fine. It is kind of dissapointing though, because I wanted the Open Cities mod to work. Any suggestions on how to get it to work? I'm gonna try using different ESPs provided by the download.

EDIT 3: Also I don't know how to regenerate the Oblivion.ini though...

Let BOSS order your load list. All of your plugins are recognized, so there should be no need to move anything around. Rerun BOSS on your LO and then regenerate the Oblvion.ini, and try relaunching again. Also, leaving unused plugins in your Data folder is not a good idea. It can lead to problems further down the road that are not worth it. Do you have the latest version of OBSE, and are you launching with the OBSE launcher? (I assume you are, but I just want to cover all of the bases.)

Backed up and deleted Oblivion.ini (Oblivion_default right?).

Also, I have OBSE v0018. I am running it with the OBSE launcher.

And it still crashes. :brokencomputer:

Even when I try loading it with the original Oblivion shortcut. And it only crashes when I have any of the Open Cities ESPs enabled and in my data folder.

I now have no unused plugins in my Data folder though after deleting the No Psychic Guards harder version.

EDIT: Oh wait, Oblivion_default isn't it. There's another just Oblivion one (in My Games folder). I'm gonna try regenerating that... :P

NO! Not the default INI... Put it back, put it back. I have the file path to the "Oblivion.ini" near the top of that page...

Edit: That file is used to generate the Oblivion.ini. That is (generally) one of the "DO NOT TOUCH!" files.

Whoops. :blush2:

I put it back. I think it actually generated another one though (by that I mean generating another Oblivion_default in program files). So I didn't put it back...

But I tried regenerating the Oblivion.ini in My Games, but it still crashed. It took a little longer to do it before startup, but crashed nonetheless... :cold:

EDIT: The regenerated file of Oblivion_default looks the same as my backup copy. So I don't think that should be a problem. If its not supposed to regenerate, then maybe I just actually did put it back.
Anyway, is it just Open Cities that for some reason won't work?

Okay, you need to install Open Cities properly. You are missing the resources. Your crash is a missing master crash. Reinstall Open Cities, and make sure you did not miss a download or something.

Edit: Are you using "Open Cities Classic"? You can reference Arthmoor's load order to see what you are missing.

I am. The one from TES Nexus. Plus the patches for Kvatch Rebuilt and Knights of the 9.

Also, I see a esm on his/her load order! I don't have an esm for Open Cities!

Also, whats the difference between Open Cities Classic and normal Open Cities? I just did classic because I thought that was the latest and right one...

EDIT: Should I get rid of Classic? I found Open Better Cities, and that seems like it might be better...

EDIT 2: I think thats what I'm going to do. Try Open Better Cities. That seems like it should work.

No. "Classic" is the current version. OBC is no longer supported. You should get that mod installed properly. You need to install the resources for OC.

On TES Nexus all I see is Open Cities Classic v333 and a bunch of compatibility patches.

I don't see any resources...

That is the only file you need. You have not installed it properly. Try again. Uninstall and reinstall it. Are you using OBMM?

Edit: I just downloaded OC (and used the pathetic version of Mac' 7zip utility to dump the whole stinking thing into my already cluttered folder for Oblivion downloads) and the resources are there. However you are installing this, it is not right...

Now thears yur problem!

This better work now...

Thanks for your help! I feel so much like a noob right now...

You are installing these manually... Okay well, at least your "problem" is fixed, haha.

Yeah, thanks. Its works great now!

Even though I use OBMM, I use it mostly for load orders and stuff (at least until I got BOSS).

When I have more time, I'll probably learn to install and make omods with it, but until then, I've been doing manually.

Idk, I probably could have done it faster the omod way but... idk.
