Load order help? - Getting tons of crashes

Post » Sun Jun 20, 2010 5:37 pm

Okay so. Originally I had Crowded Roads Revisited, but that made my game crash every 2 to 3 minutes, or when I zoned into an area. I got rid of that, and doing that improved the crashes a bunch...but now I'm crashing every 10 minutes or so (give or take a few minutes). I also had city life, and got rid of that, but that didn't do anything.

I do have Qarl 3 Redimized and the RAEVWD mod that improves view distance, plus some other graphics mods. Note, I do NOT get any lag at all...game is VERY smooth. The only problem is the random crashing, that happens too often for my liking. I guess Oblivion is always crash prone, even Vanilla with no mods crashed on me...so maybe I just have to live with it. The problem is, the last time I crashed...I lost ALL my saves. I manually save my going to the console and typing "save savename 01" and then I save up to save "savename 10" that way I have backups...I turned off all the auto saves. But, this time, it corrupted them all. Every time I got to the menu screen, it would crash. Deleting the saves, and it worked again. Now I can live with crashes, but if they cause my save games to get corrupted...well I can't live with that.

OBSE Plugins/MODS I HAVE

Fast Exit
Oblivion Stutter Remover
Oblivion Crash Prevention System (weOCPS)
The silent voices plugin (not the name, but its the one that does something about silent voices)

even with those, my game crashes a lot. The crash prevention mod hasn't worked at all for me. Fast exit works great though, I never crash when exiting anymore

Here is my system, and I just upgraded too (taken from my Xfire profile). My CPU is core 2 duo. And it says my hard drive is smaller, but thats because my one hard drive is split up into two parts, I actually have almost 500gb worth of space. And I have Windows 7 Enterprise Edition 64bit. Also, my graphics card is 896 mb

Processor:
Intel? Core™ i5 CPU 660 @ 3.33GHz (4 CPUs), ~3.3GHz
Memory:
8192MB RAM
Hard Drive:
161 GB
Video Card:
NVIDIA GeForce GTX 260

Should be plenty good enough to run this. And it does very smoothly, but I keep crashing. Which tells me its mod related

So here is my mod list and yes, I BOSSED It already.

Thanks for any help :)

Hi Vendayn,
Nice rig.
Fallout3 guys with 64-bit OS and 8 gigs RAM were having a terrible time just getting that game to run... but 32-bit rigs w/2GB were just fine.
And Oblivion is even older.
Try something for me?
DISABLE your hyperthreading.
Show Oblivion only two cores (but real ones).
I suspect there may be other things you can do to get your rig running better/more solid...
Not just Oblivion-things (ie. mods).
Is your rig very nice/clean/solid? Disable ANY overclocking, including vidcard (everything 'auto' in BIOS, including memory timings).
And while you're in there, try only 2 cores, non-HT.
Disable the SpeedStep - but leave all the advanced C1E states enabled.
Try it with only two 'real' cores, and no SpeedStepping.
Let me know if no difference and same BS crashing...
But I suspect it should help greatly in this particular scenario with this specific game.
Note: you may also be in 'Oblivion.ini hell' if you have dikeed around with your ini file too much...
It's possible you made even only one unfortunate (or at least highly speculative) choice. :)
Hey we all try stuff, right?
But all these issues must first be addressed to do a proper, methodical troubleshoot...
Regards

Load order seems good.
Will look closer again.
But:
1. Fish! - v1.1.esp is stand-alone for players not using MMM (if you use MMM, then you should use MMM-Divese Water Life.esp as resources are included into MMM.BSA)- not that this is the cause of your CTDs...
2. Try without QTP3 - just give chance to vanilla textures and see if there is any difference.
3. My game personally improved when I disabled weOCPS

I'd try Max Morbus' version of Natural Weather. It's the same mod, except he just "did it right". No more talking to an NPC on a sunny day, then exiting dialogue to find it snowing. And if you don't have an h2o GTX 260 I suggest using something like eVGA precision to increase the fan speed, just a tip from a fellow 260 :P
