Loading Screens?

Post » Sat May 21, 2011 5:19 am

I have had a search but have found no information regarding loading screens. Does anyone know if Skyrim will feature them when you, say, go into a cave, a city etc........ or will the new engine allow complete fluidity throughout the experience? I like to think we have progressed since Oblivion but there are hardware limitations to take into account here (Consoles). Any knowledge or thoughts on this?

There will most likely be loading screens. As long as things are separated between cells there will be.

I'm fairly certain dungeons, buildings and such will still have loading screens, however, many seem to believe that cities will not. I'm not sure if this has been officially confirmed however or if it's just speculation based on what we've seen so far.

There will definitely be load screens.

All but the most high end PCs would be able to run it without transitions, and since the lead platform is a console, there are going to be load screens.

I have absolutely no problem with this, not in morrowind, not in oblivion and i am pretty certain, not in skyrim either.

In morrowind (maybe in Oblivion also), one of the ini options give you the option to adjacent cells being loaded in the background. It, didn't work very well though (stuttering and unstability) and only works with exterior cells, but they could have done this better this time. Must say that I am not expecting this and it's not a big deal for me either, but I think it's not entirelly immposible.

I don't mind loading screens really. I hope most ,if not all, towns, villages and cities are open...but as for building's etc thats fine.....it helps keep the game smoother.
Some won't like it,but it didn't stop us playing oblivion thats for sure :)......like i said, i believe it's needed.

I'm thinking it will have loading screens, I just hope they are not as painfully long as I remember some of Morrowind's being. Sometimes the game would freeze while loading and I wouldn't even notice for about a minute. :brokencomputer:

Skyrim is GUARANTEED to have loading screens considering the 360's measily 512MB of shared RAM.

Yeah, even games that advertise no loading screens, have loading screens. I'm fairly sure cities won't but houses, castles, ruins, and dungeons will.

Does Pong have a loading screen?

haha,very funny. (sarcasm)

pong had to load to ram too.
it was just so few kb that the whole level would load in less than a second.
but we are talking about a modern game.
find me 1 game on xbox360 or ps3 that doesn't have a loading screen.

@Luke Skyrimmer.
Yeah but 16bit games where less than 500kb each.
Modern games are more than a hundred times bigger than that.

Let's just hope they make the loading screens as entertaining as possible. The more artworks and lore info they include the merrier (Oblivion's loading screens get reeaaally long and repetitive after 200 hours of gameplay^^).

Maybe nobody here has played it, but I'm pretty sure Gothic 4 - Arcania does not have load screens when you enter dungeons, not on the PC version anyways.

Also, just to put my tuppence worth in, load screens do NOT bother me. I was just enquiring. I would love Oblivion just as much if it didn't have them.

I think someone from Bethesda said there would be loading screens (in an indirect way, mind you) in a reply to someone's question, perhaps in the GI podcast?

There will be loading screens. How else will we get useful tidbits about the game when we are going in and out of buildings???
