well obviusly there 2 alternatives

1. either they choose to hoast it along one of the coastlines, easier to create a varid enviroment, there is also the connection you can make with other games giving fans something to relate too.

2. a completely new area in the central part of the county, it gives a good backdrop to be original but in the other end might alienate the fans for the lack of familiarity.

As much as it would be great to have a new location (it would be interesting to see what the post apoc tratment would do to a lot of cities), I think this one should remain on the west coast. Possibly expanding to include some locations a bit further east Like your heart when you realize you're dying... but you're trying.

i agree passing out on an already established content will be a mistake.

One of the released concept arts shows Seattle. See:

ok, we are moving north, the swamp concept art make more sense in the seattle area.
so i guess no vault city, if any faction will emerge from the south i assume its will be NCR ?

Personally I hope the amount of old factions stays to a minimum

I for one wants this to feel like a new Fallout game, with new factions. Getting tired bumping into the Brotherhood of Steel for the 5 bazzilion times.

bumping into the 'new technological advanced faction' guys for the 5 bazzilion times will be any better?

hmmm? last time I checkt there isn′t a minimum requirement that a Fallout game must have such a group in the first place.

it doesnt but isnt this the whole point? to have none generic interesting factions, something more than just the guys who live here and there

in FO we got tribal's vs vault city high tech... we got vault city authoritarian bigots, NCR republic tolerance/freedom, lawless new reno crime family's, fascist enclave, we got religious types we got everything

i doubt you can come up with a much more interesting setting, without making new names for old ideas

would be cool if they made up the world in fallout online so that they can add content in any way that they want. plus there's no limits to what they can do in the geographical way which would make it easier to make beautiful stuff In gaming terms... Life's a die, then you bich.

I'd say either near New York, or Colorado Springs.

For that, see this thread: http://www.gamesas.com/forums/viewtopic.php?f=7&t=5371

Colorado Springs was another site where Tesla had an installation, so that explains that.

Of course, seeing a piece of concept art precisely of Seattle is much more believable than my theories.

Gotta be on the West Coast. Have to have Apocalyptic Beach. Grey / Green water while surfing and dodging mutated killer sharks and squid. Fights Breaking out with Beach Raider Punks for control of the most gnarly areas to surf on !

Huge beach BBQ with giant mole rat on rotisserie , drinking home-brew and partying with hot mutie chicks with 3 knockers! MMO's... MMO's never change...

I think they should start out basic with a west coast and east coast start so if seattle is one then there you go the other could maybe go south like Atlanta or maybe get a little tropical and hit the beaches of Orlando. As time progresses add more cities to fill in the gap so go north from the south and maybe see D.C. again(If bethesda plays it cool and adds in their familiarity we saw in Fallout 3) the seattle could go down see cities like San Francisco or even further and a combination of L.A. and S.D. also try to connect the gap between the first two with cities like Denver(since the new plague was going down in the timeline an odd form of radiation with the disease) or others such as Chicago and Dallas until 3 years into the game and we are seeing a Variety of choices that greats a complete feel of a Fallout World(at least a Fallout America) because really what people want to see is a city somewhat near them that is in shambles and how close they get to what they see in real life. When Bethesda went into DLC I felt strong disappointment when they only had one DLC in another city(in apocalyptic condition) and when they choose a park in maryland no-one had ever heard of I was wondering what was going through their heads. I grew up in Atlanta and it would be very interesting to see it apocalyptic.

my idea of perfect FOOL will be all of the west coast with a rail line connecting all the major hubs from Seattle to san Fransisco which will be the major PVE hubs and in land we have the PVP zones.

because in post apocalyptic world its all about the resources war, so the PVP zones will be centered around those resources and will allow factions to take control of them and fight over them  also some raids from Canada and Mexico can be arranged 8-)

BUT, we all know the ~500km rule for MMO open worlds and we already have the Seattle concpet art so its pretty obvious that FOOL will take place in Washington and maybe with further extension will expand south ward :|

from dezign point of view its perfect setting for them, wasteland to the south, swampy and coastline and city area here and more frozen stuff to the north allows to get as original as they want...
