I did put an initial point into it, but I decided to stop after that. I desperately needed the points elsewhere. I also didn't find it too difficult.

I am an Argonian so I think I get a boost to it to start. I only carry 10-13 lockpicks at a time to make it more of a challenge. My skill is 43 right now, and I usually go through about 9 picks to get into an expert or master lock. My record is six broken picks to get into a Master lock (this was recently, probably @ 40 skill ).

I kind of wish they still had the auto try function for those people that wanted the old school roll-the-dice RPG experience.

Edit:
Correction, I didn't put an initial point in it. That first star always looks brighter then the others, so I think I have points in skills that I don't.

Master locks are the only locks that will ever make you run out of lockpicks, and even those you can get in 5-10 if your'e lucky. IDK, I've never ran out of picks on my thief character and I've never put a point into lockpicking.

That is the pickpocketing tree, not the lockpicking tree.

Lockpicking is too easy in Skyrim. It lets me pick every damn lock even if i have only 40. And obviously the perks in Lockpicking are a big waste. Oblivion didnt let you pick higher level locks at all. Also, I loved the presentation of the lock-picking mini-game in Oblivion much more than the one in Fallout/Skyrim.

I have around 60 in lockpicking (on master, level 47, Redguard huntress), but I never put any points in it, simply because I don't have to. I can open anything without braking more than a two or three picks. I think it's too easy at least for master difficulty.

What?

By the way, let me say that I am a little disappointed that Bethesda ripped out the Open Lock spells (mages don't have a native means of getting through locks anymore) and didn't provide a lock bash mechanic for warriors. Having every single character you make be able to pick locks like a master locksmith is pretty silly. Only reason I'm putting perks into it is for roleplay purposes.

I am an advocate of changing those perks around so that you need to actually unlock the ability to pick higher locks than Novice. There are a number of changes I wish to make to the game's perks, and that is one of them.

I enjoy the mini-game, but I still think there should be more ways than lockpicking to open a locked object. They should also have spells and lock-bashing possibilities. As a mage player I really miss the Unlock spells. It just feels wrong for an archmage who can breathe underwater, go invisible, detect lifeforms nearby, protect himself from dragonfire with an invisible shield, and manipulate people's minds with a wave of his hand having to stoop to using a lockpick to open a locked door.

What?

Or does my memory serve me wrong? From what I remember when I was a novice in Security it didnt even let my try to pick very high class locks (Expert, Master). Or do I remember this from Oscuros Oblivion Overhaul?

I don't mind the mini-game, one of the better ways of handling lockpicking. However, the fact that it pauses the game is nonsensical and defeats the purpose of taking perks in it. You have all the time in the world to pick a lock, instead of having to do it before a guard comes back around the corner.

Maybe it's a trade-off for lack of alteration lock openers, but it's certainly an 'expensive' one. Is there any reason to rank lockpicking under the assumption you enjoy the mini-game?

On my first character, I was picking Master level locks with a skill of 15 in Lockpicking. With that being said, you can see why I will never put any perk points into lockpicking. Especially when I am hard pressed to fill out my other, more important, skill trees as it is.

I think the lockpicking system is well done in this game, because I did go through 10 or more broken lockpicks just to open those master level locks.

I had 3 perk points in the tree.. but then i realized that it was just a waste as it adds nothing at all, you can pick any lock without them... so i removed those perks and added them to another tree..

The thing that bugs me about non-combat skills, is that in Oblivion, apart from any level scaling stuff, you didn't suffer at all for investing in non-combat skills. But when only have a single perk to spend each level I find there's to many other perks I need to even dabble in them.

I hate minigames mainly because I svck at them. Wish there was still an auto-pick function. Why should mmy adroit thief suffer because of my cack-handedness?

I enjoy LP in Skyrim so far.

I did not vote because my option wasn't there. No perk points and enjoy the mini-game.
I have not had a reason to perk it yet.

Exactly. I hate that the minigame is mandatory. In an RPG, lockpicking success should depend on my character's abilites and not my own.

The entire lockpicking tree feels like a waste to me because of the Skeleton Key.

What they really needed to do was make picks break in the higher level locks, rendering the unopenable. Since most people carry tons of gear on them, they almost always have enough picks to keep trying until they get it right.
