Lockpicking involves picking locks

They seem to be tweaking a lot of the systems, so I see lockpicking getting tweaked as well. I don't think it needed a complete overhaul though.

Random dice lockpicking had a minigame too, it was called "try and reload until you succeed". It was a pretty lame minigame.

I think Fallout 3 system was good, but maybe a faster, more simplistic system but in real time would be perfect.

Create something new. With no :swear: minigames.

I hope they modify the one in Oblivion becuase I did like the fact that you were picking the lock, and I think that lock picking will be in real time

If there are mini games they shouldn't include items within the game which make them completely irrevelant, such as the skeleton key.

However I think the magic users should get spells to unlock doors though.

I want to keep the same system as in OB, or have a similar system. And if you say it's unrealistic... well... It's akin to the ancient Roman locks.

I liked Oblivion lockpick system although I think it should be expanded a little by, maybe, adding somthing like mechanical traps to certain pins of the lock so picking isn't the same every time (not sure how it'd work in-game though). Fallout's was too easy after getting used to it unless you were picking a lock well above your skill level.

I wasn't a fan of oblivions minigame but I think there should be more to it than instant unlocking.

It should definitely be real time and maybe limited by lock difficulty or if not that at least actually harder/impossible depending on your skill because your skill has to matter or there is no point to it. I think splinter cell: PT's take on lockpicking would work well because it wouldn't be frustrating in real time but it would have to be limited by difficulty like fallout.

Oblivion made it too easy because A.) the world froze while you were lock picking. I'd just go into sneak mode, find a nook where nobody could see me and quickly start the minigame, and I could pick the lock without being spotted. For instance, the chest outside the arena. You could pick it in broad daylight. And B.) you could save and just quickload if you failed. You could make it by the whole game with one lockpick. And C.) you didn't have to use the trick because the minigame was pretty easy.

I think FO3 systems was really good. They need to make Skyrim with a system like that.

Memory is kinda foggy, but I could have sworn it was already said that lockpicking will have a sort of minigame and that it wasn't the oblivion one.

Personally, I kinda of like two worlds 2 lockpicking the most, even though it's not realisitcally like picking a lot at all. Not many of these lock picking games are anyway.

reason I liked the two worlds two one is that you can do it so fast if you are good.

I detest Oblivion's lockpicking minigame. Not in and of itself - as a minigame, it's fine. It just shouldn't even be there. It makes the security skill completely and utterly useless and means that that whole aspect of the game really has nothing at all to do with my character. I can pick a lock in the mini-game whether my character's security skill is 5 or 100. It makes absolutely no difference at all, and if skills don't make a difference in the game, that's a design failure.

That said, if they leave it so that it's possible to ignore it entirely and use a system based entirely on character skill (auto-attempt), I couldn't care less. Though it'd be nice if I didn't have to slide the mouse around trying to get the cursor to show up so I could pick auto-attempt....

In addition to my previous post lockpicks shouldn't break the first time you fail (maybe on high difficulty locks). Morrowind did better by having a number of uses which makes more sense (the lockpick gets worn from use vs it simply breaks)

I just hope they incorporate the lockpicking skill. In Oblivion, once you got the hang of the mini-game, you could pick a "very hard" lock with one pick, regardless of your skill level.

Fallout 3 style please as Oblivion's lockpick system was boring, dull and not important because of Alteration/Skeleton Key.

Two Worlds II actually had a pretty fun lock picking mini game. Oblivion's system wasn't bad, but it was too easy. I could pick very hard locks with a very low security skill. Fallouts system is even more boring than Oblivion's.

dull and not important because of Alteration/Skeleton Key.

? That's the point, to give all the different type of builds a way to open a lock.

Oblivion or Fallout style is good with me or the type from Thief would be cool also,... dont really care as long as its not convoluted like the type from 2worlds 2

I hated Oblivion's lockpicking game and always just used the auto-pick button instead. At the risk of being burned alive, something more like how Fallout 3 did lockpicking would work for me.

In Oblivion I always just hit auto-pick. The mini game is easy enough but boring. I like fallout 3 and new vegas' way of doing it though. That way or some new way would be preferable for me.

Oblivion minigame was awesome. It was cool how intricate, and novelty it was.

I wouldnt have a problem with that type except you could go thru massive amounts of lockpicks if not careful and TES usually has very limited number you can get your hands on at one time and they costly

Personally, I don't care whether or not we have a lockpicking minigame - so long as it's in realtime (which I'm assuming it may be given how dialog is).

When you mentioned dialogue, I now have some hope for real time picking. :)

Good, it would make it challenging and worth it.

I wouldn't mind either oblivion style, or Fallout style, or anything else, as long as there is an auto function.
