Lockpicking screen not working

Post » Tue Dec 13, 2011 5:59 am

Trying not to include any spoilers, but through a series of quests I currently have the skeleton key. The problem is that now, though it displays at the lock picking screen, i cannot move anything or pick locks in any way. I can rotate the skeleton key lock pick, but pressing the keys to attempt to turn the lock do nothing.

I'm at a point where I need to pick a lock to continue, so I'd like to figure this out so i can keep playing the game. I've restart the game and my computer and every time it's the same situation.

Anyone else getting this?

Well that is a spoiler :P

Spoiler
Do you have any lockpicks? There's a known bug where the Skeleton key won't work properly if you don't have lockpicks in your inventory.

Oops! I just found out in the Hardware Forums in the unofficial bug list thread the lockpicking system still works. Its just that the keys got remapped to the Left and Right arrow keys which i also use for movement. So am back to picking locks thankfully and when out of the lockpicking screen the arrow keys go back to being used for movement.

Your welcome. Guess we both jumped the gun in our haste to enjoy the fun of SKYRIM. I also noticed when picking a lock for the first time the tutorial box pops up telling me the correct key to press. The menu interface though still has A and D as the wrong keys.

My fix for this was to remap my movement keys. I saw no visible change, but it fixed lockpicking for me.
