Lockup when Exiting Inventory Menu

Post » Sat May 28, 2011 5:51 pm

I realized that, somewhat randomly, Deadly Reflexes wasn't working. I went into my mod list and start moving some things around... now in my game, it locks up when I exit my inventory menu. The screen just freezes completely, and I have to CTRL + ALT + DEL and close the game's process to exit.

The problem is that I don't remember where I moved Deadly Reflex from, so I can't restore it to it's original position. I tried running BOSS and letting it re-order everything automatically, but still no luck.

I've spent a lot of time troubleshooting, but was wondering what you guys think is a good approach for trying to solve this problem. What type of mod conflict could trigger a lockup after exiting the menu? Or maybe it's a dependency of a mod I have disabled? I would post by mod list, but I have about 150 of them active, so it probably wouldn't do any good. I'm looking for more of generic advice I guess.

Thanks for any suggestions.

UI mods: UI, keychain, hotkey, mods that touch menus, etc.

Also, let BOSS reorder your load order for you. DR has been moved. Do not worry about it. The BOSS team did not just get drunk one night and move DR out of spite, and just so you know...

It's just really perplexing to me. Why would it freeze up after closing the menus?

Ugh. This makes me want to vomit trying to fix this.

It could be some scripts attached to one of the mods that affects menus' functionality hanging or something...

Well, I re-mapped my menu access from tab to an arbitrarily random key ("7" on my number pad), and it seems to be working fine now...

Maybe I have a mod that mapped something to tab? I have no idea, but I'm really happy this is working now.

Thanks for the help.

Edit: oops, I guess it still locks up when I try and switch from my view of the inventory after I open a chest / am in an NPC's inventory.

I'll post if I find out what went wrong to try and help alleviate this problem in the future.

That would be helpful. Yup, always have to watch out for those hotkey mods, heheh, and not just the ones with "hotkey" in the name. Enhanced Economy and all other sorts of mods conveniently link up hotkeys for you.

Well, the problem was actually tied to a keychain mod. Now that I disabled it, everything has been working fine (after some extensive testing, too).

Thanks, Tom, for suggesting that a keychain mod could be a problem. Not in a million years would I have thought of disabling that!

Yes, it touches the UI. Did you have the latest version of the http://www.tesnexus.com/downloads/file.php?id=3409 mod? It requires OBSE. I used to hear about people having trouble with it, but I think that the latest version has taken care of that, at least for most. I did not ever suffer that issue, and I have been using it for quite a while now.
