LOD glowing?

Post » Fri Jul 02, 2010 9:58 pm

HI, I just noticed I'm getting this odd, illumination on LOD objects, (it only seems to be the cities/towns) I don't think I'm using any city illumination mods (I can see any in my mod list), and it only happens if I face a particular direction, meaning that when I'm moving around I can see them flashing on & off. I't more just annoying then anything else.
and Im right about to swap the Natural Weather mods with All Natural 0-9-9-5-18305, no Idea if that will do any thing for this issue...

Thanx for any help on working out how to stop this!

That's typically what happens when there are too many VWD objects in the game that haven't been properly optimized. All the VWD objects start taking on strange colours. The problem is made worse if you increase your fLightLOD settings too much in the ini file. IIRC, it starts to happen more often if you go beyond 4200 or something like that. Those landscape mods probably have a number of VWD objects in them and it's making the game engine go strange.

Hm, I thought this was a known bug realating to VWD mods and bloom lighting? Perhaps you could change to no lighting/HDR?

I dont know about your problem, but man get porm lol not hentai mods.

Really? If you are going to post, please be constuctive. What you just did was not cool, at all.

Anyway, I think the problem is with you not using HDR. If you use LOD programs or mods, most require the user to run HDR or problems will occur.

Weather mods have nothing to do with this.

The yellow glow is caused by an improperly optimized LOD mesh somewhere in your game. Specifically one that still has specular property data left on the mesh. If you haven't already, update your ULs. There were some over the last few months which had LOD cleanup work done. It literally only takes one mesh to blow the whole thing. Other than that, the only thing I see in your list that might need updating is Better Cities.

If you're not using RAEVWD, there are some vanilla meshes that can cause this as well. You may want to try installing that to see if it helps.

Ok, yeah I'm not using HDR as I found that in places like the IC everything was so glowy and bright it made stuff look just wrong, I'll turn it on and see how I go. thanx.

& @ yesyesyes#1, well there clothing mods with some epic armour in them, but hay if I can't walk around in the city with my junk out with out getting arrested, then I'm dam sure going to do it in game. :D

Ok, well I only actually had Oblivion for about 4 weeks, and the 1st 2 where svcked up by a random decoder codec from power DVD 5 crashing the game at the menu loading screen, (finally worked that incompatibility out), so all my mods are only 2 week old DL's.
Ok I'll give RAEVWD a go I have it's Archive sitting in the Bash installs folder ready to go anyway :) thanx

dose the TES4LODGen help with this? because I run it after I added all my mods and then again if I add any mod I know will add something that needs a LOD to the game.

Thanx for the help guys.

Just to clarify, distant objects being viewable is not an LOD. That stands for Level of Detail and represents the amount of texture detail you see off in the distance. What you are referring to here is a VWD object, or Viewable When Distant.

Unfortunately nobody stepped up early enough to make VWD stick to describe distant objects so the LOD term has been used interchangeably with distant landscape for so long that it causes confusion.

In any case, no, tes4lodgen doesn't correct the glow issue. That's a mesh defect that has to be fixed by whoever created the bad one. You do have to run it after introducing any new VWD meshes into the game though or they won't display.

ok ,thanks for the clarification, yeah I'm still semi-new to Oblivion modding, I did do lots with morrowind but LOD and VWD are all new.
and activating RAEVWD (just the building architecture, IC, wideness arch, etc..) has fixed the glowing buildings.
I think that's all my current mod issues fixed for now, time to start my 1st real game of Oblivion :D after about 3 weeks of setting up mods and working out there issues lol.

btw changing HDR and/or bloom did nothing. the extra lighting just made stuff glow even more. http://i966.photobucket.com/albums/ae150/Carnage009/Glow.jpg
