Lone wolf or no?

Post » Thu Dec 03, 2015 11:22 am

TBH I've not really thought about it to a massive degree (apart from getting the pooch) so I plumped for mixed.

I'm much more torn on deciding either to be melee or ranged for my first play through (and which variant of those too)....damn think I've got a headache coming on ;)

well i was the only vote in the "don't know poll", and to defend my vote...It depends on gameplay honestly, if the fps aspects are good, then most likely lone wolf, if the aiming is slow and vats must be used, i'll import Boone. Not being able to quickly aim between enemies is my weakness, especially fast moving feral ghouls "shivers". But from what i've seen, my Let's Play will include all content of the game. So I travel down a bit, see some BAMF slaying molerats and an option in text appears to ask him to come with me, then i'll have a buddy in the wastes. Simple as that.

First play through will be lone wolf.
Then once the killable companions mods start hitting I'll give them a go on a play through or 2. Might even like their story/quests, if they have any (I seriously hope they do after the companion quests in F:NV).

Edit: Voted mix it up.

This ^.

In Skyrim, I didn't have a companion persay because they were unreliable. But I did like having Twin Souls perk, where I could summon 2 Dremora Lords for backup. Reminds me of Mortal Kombat movie, the boat scene where Scoprion and Sub-zero comes to the aid of Shang Tsung. Not really aid but you all know what I mean.

If any of the companions are interesting they can tag along for a while. But I'll probably play alone!

Sometimes alone, sometimes not. Depends on area and companions.

I always play a stealth character in Bethesda games so unless companions do as I do and stick to the shadows etc I won't be taking anyone along apart from maybe dogmeat. I'll see how the AI is and go from there.

I find it very boring running around alone unless I am playing the film cliche antisocial wasteland survivalist type character.

My first/main character will be alone only until meeting the dog, and will gather together as many companions as possible.

The first time I played through Fallout 3, I went it alone. The second time, I brought along Dogmeat and later Fawkes. It was a lot more fun the second time around, even though they often got in the way.

Dogmeat will probably always be by my side. Others can tag along if I feel they may benifit me in some way. Other than that it's just going to be a boy and his dog.

To date, I've only played one game where the companion was helpful, didn't die for doing stupid things, didn't give my position away, and was actually useful.

That's Elizabeth from Bioshock: Infinite.

Every other companion fails all the criteria above in every other game.

Unless Fallout 4 proves they worked out the companion issue, then I'm a solo player. If I have to, I'll shoot the dog.

My first characters are typically pure snipers and Fallout has always had crappy spotters. So Lone Wolf it is.

Lone wolf, because I don't have to watch Dogmeat commit suicide or walk towards me casually while on fire. That and Lone Wanderer perk along with toughness perk makes challenge, fly out the window, so I can see why it's best to be alone :P

I never used Companions in Fallout 3, at least until I had played New Vegas. For the first year, year and a half, I did not use any companions in New Vegas, did not even do their quests. Once I started using them, they were fun and a nice addition to the game.

So, in this game, I will Lone Wolf it, other than maybe the dog, at least in the first play through. Then I may add them in. I might try them during the first play through, it all depends really.

I will certainly take Lone Wolf for my unarmed Sole Survivor.

I am not a fan of companions in Bethesda games, and they only seem to get in the way. Especially when playing a melee character who has a dog blocking his path all the time or gets hit by ranged friends.

Also 30% damage reduction on melee seems like it will help tremendously.

My Stealth/Sniper build, play-style, and high difficulty settings won't vibe well with a companion. I'll save them for my 2nd play-through.

For me, it depends on how Bethesda do companions. They've never been done particularly good before, in that I didn't care about them and they just got in the way all of the time, but that can change. New Dogmeat seems to be great in the sense of not getting in the way constantly, which would be a major plus. But even if we do get great, much less annoying companions I might still venture on my own.

I will be a Lone Wolf, as in all Bethesda game. I will only take up companions to do their quests after which I will just dismiss them (or leave them in my fancy club house so they can look pretty).

I was always alone in Fallout 3 (had dogmeat with me at one stage), but in NV I had two with me all the time, and that was not balanced really.

For Fallout 4 I wanted to stick with Dogmeat, mostly because I never got over it losing him in the cathedral in Fallout 1 16 years ago. Then I saw the leaks and I am not 100% happy with the animations, which I can live with, but when he fell down that skyscraqer that really killed my immersion somehow, so I might go alone for the first couple of hours.

As for the others, I just do not put enough faith in Bethesda's talent for characters shaping. From all companions in Fallout 3 there was only Fawkes that I was interested in, the rest was boring to me. Fawkes had some meaning for the main quest so this worked in his favour as well. I believe Preston and Piper will fall into the same category as Star Paladin Cross, Charon and Jericho.

Depends on how much I like the companions, so far none of the revealed ones catch my eye too much so I'll have to wait and see but that Lone Wanderer perk is making me lean more towards lone wolf though.

My second or third character will be a loner. But I plan to take Piper or Codsworth in my first.

I'll mix it at times, at first i'll use a companion, then later on after i get to know the game more i'll probably fly solo.
