I always have a companion with me it makes traveling the wasteland alittle less lonely plus i perfer ma combat up close and personal which having a buddie makes it more fun. i do wonder how many players will give up their easy sniper play style if beth has removed the genome solider https://youtu.be/fIOlb4-VCLY?t=114 from the AI ^_^

I fight alone, although if one of the romance options is interesting to me I might see it through.

Since I'm going to play on survival mode first , I'll use the dog to go on ahead just in case I need to run away. He can be my bait

Depends on how I feel. I imagine for the first part of the game, I probably won't have much involvement with any companions.

I'm waiting until I've played with all the companions before deciding, but more than likely if there isn't one I want to romance I'll just lone wolf it.

I'm hoping companions have loyalty quests a la New vegas, something to keep them around a bit before I send them to guard my home.

I never used any followers in Fallout 3, not even Dogmeat.

In New Vegas though.. I really liked Cass, ED-E, and Boone (until his terrible demise at the hands of mere Fire Geckos). I even utilized Rex sometimes.

Lone wolf with Dogmeat - Fallout should be played as a lone wolf/lone wanderer

Most of the time I am a lone wolf, but when I feel a mission will be tough I grab someone. I don't mean Dogmeat. I usually stuck with Cass or Boone in NV.

The [C3] Lone Wanderer perk gives you bonuses when you don't have a companion, including increased carry weight.

Playing Skyrim recently I just had my character leave Meeko at home after adventuring with him for the past month of real time.

Meeko, you are just more of a annoyance than a help, even with the reality-bending console commands I used to make you immortal. Im going to give Dogmeat a chance on the 10th, but I have a feeling it wont go so well and my canine companion will be more of a homebody.

Also I still can't see myself using humanoid companions at all.

I plan on using stealth mostly, so depends on how well the dog acts during them moments.

Sometimes I feel the need for a friend in a dark cave or sewer system just to cheer me up and keep me company. Other times I want to go off on my own and explore alone and unhindered. So a bit of both, that lone wander perk looks good but I just cant say no to a puppy :)

I've said lone wolf as that's mainly how I've played the previous games, however I will see just how bad the companions are this time (I don't have hopes they wont be annoying)

I was never big on companions, but my most memorable time in Skyrim featured them heavily. I thought I might take up writing at the time. The perspective was that of a historian from Cyrodil writing a chronicle of the Dragonborn. So my Dragonborn character always travelled with a companion, and the companion acted as the witness years later when the historian caught up with them.

For me, it will depend heavily on how the A.I. is with the companions. If I feel like I'm having to babysit or that the companion is constantly getting in my way, then I'll go it alone. I wouldn't mind a companion that can take care of itself and adds some entertaining aspects. Mainly I would like to see my character and the companion have some banter about themselves, the current situation, or the environment. As a player, I wouldn't mind getting my expostion this way instead of reading computer terminal screens or books. If I can also give commands to the companions, that they may follow depending on our relationship, that I may not be able to do, then I'll also want to keep them around.
