I'm looking to spread my love from afar and that http://fallout.wikia.com/wiki/Plasma_sniper_rifle is looking like the perfect way to send a love letter. Anyone else going for a sniper build this time around?

Oh yes, the new combat mechanics looks tight this time around and being able to hold your breath before the shot with sniper rifles is welcomed in my book
Loved the sniper mechanics in Far Cry 3/4 and fallout looks like it has taken a big leap in that direction. I also think I read somewhere that with better weapon mods perk ranks you can amp up the distance of lethality with your guns. So yeah my first character will be a sneaky sniper dude with a very twisted sense about who he fires his bullets att.
Always have a sniper character. The only build I never do is hand-to-hand.
I haven't seen the plasma sniper. Wouldn't the discharge move too slowly to be effective at long range? Accelerator attachment must be better than the one from NV.
Nope. I've learned my lesson from NV and for my first playthrough I want something more challenging than a sniper.
I'll definitely buy a few ranks of Rifleman, but I'm more of a fan of the Hunting Rifle.
Always have a sniper build. I won't be using an energy weapon; I like good old fashioned ballistic weapons.
I think I'm going to make my second character a sniper. I kinda want my first character to be handguns only. I always wanted to do a Vash type character.
I am torn. On one hand I love sniper rifles.. On the other, a minigun really does well at expressing my feelings.
Sneaky sniper has always been how I roll. Back in FO: 1/2 I usually mixed in energy weapons towards the end and the laser rifle gave me the long distance satisfaction I liked unlike FO:3 and NV where they were mid range weapons. It's nice to see that I'll be able to throw some hot fire from long range in FO:4.
I almost always create (ballistic) snipers, and historically I've had better luck shooting ~outside~ VATS; sometimes VATS won't even "lock on" to a distant foe but I can still peg them with the ol' eyeball. Only problem with sniper rifles is when you're creeping through a Vault or some place with reduced range to target. In those cases I usually go with a silenced pistol or hunting rifle; shotguns are arguably better but I just never really liked them (limited capacity and LOUD).
I've never really been a fan of energy weapons, but mainly because of the ash / goo piles they leave behind, instead of bloody bodies. Made it hard to know which pile you'd already searched, and if you get multiple foes' remains on top of each other, you might miss out on something. Much better to be able to drag the bodies around to reveal those underneath the stack.
I rather avoid doing sniper build this time around.
I always go for a sniper build.. It just works so well with a sneaky thief.
I generally do, but I prefer the old fashioned rifles. I kind of liked the fact that laser/plasma rifles didn't have the range of bullets. Now that they apparently do I'm not sure I like it at all. I mean the amount of energy to fire a bolt 200 yards must be more than what it takes to travel 20 yards right? Course maybe this is factored in an the energy sniper rifle only gets a few shots. Still just seems odd to me.
FO:1/2 had the Sniper Rifles range out to 50 and the Laser Rifles range out to 45. Seems that the FO: 4 science gods unearthed some old sciences and applied them to energy weapons. Praise be their names.
Definitely building this baby considering my main is going to be a Charismatic Sniper.
He will use it to get what he wants, and he will be quite selfish.
Such is the life of a survivor. We can play a savior, but if this was a real life situation...I think the post apocalypse would look a lot like Dayz.
Yeah true... every one just killing on sight and thieving lol.
IDK I'm diverse and have different mood swings with regards to play style. If I feel like shotgunning to the face, I like to have it there. If swinging a melee weapon then melee. If spraying with an auto rifle then I like to have it available.. It depends on my mood.
Edit* But I know to be diverse I'll have to scatter my ability points everywhere which can be irritating but I mostly do like to snipe
Do you think we can change out the Hunting Rifle's action? I want to see if we can make it semi-auto, into something like This Machine.
I'm actually playing a melee build in Skyrim for the first time (only took me hundreds of hours to try it!). It's a lot of fun just running up to enemies and bashing them to death with sword and shield. But it takes a lot of restraint for me not to sneak around and shoot arrows into people. That's my natural play-style. Sneaky-sniper.
That's the build I'm going with. The Charisma perks just look too interesting to pass up. And I'm going to be sneaking and sniping when I'm not chatting people up.
I already know from FO:3 and NV that I'm going to have lots of hard decisions when I see a person in the distance. "Are they hostile? Is that a raider? But they look alone. I can nail them with a headshot from here ... but what if they have something interesting to say?! Argh!"
