Oblivion keeps you engaged for a few hours at most.

No. Keeps YOU entertained for a few hours.

GTA 4 however is the only game in the world that I feel you could play for very long without getting bored, there's just so much fun to beating random people and shoving them and taking stuff.

Hmm... Debatable to say the least....

GTA 4 got 10/10 on IGN...so getting to the point: GTA is more entertaining than Oblivion.

Ridiculous comment (IMO)

Do you think Skyrim will get 10/10.

It probably will in my book.

What...

Oblivion is plain boring if you play it LESS than 2 hours. You must play at least 3 hours and then you basically don't want to stop.

And how could I miss it, obvious troll is obvious.

IGN gave it a 10/10. Great for them. I respect their opinion.

You feel GTA4 is more entertaining. I also respect your opinion.

So I ask that you respect my opinion when I disagree in every way shape and form.

Exactly this.

While reviewers have different opinions to people here, I don't see why people feel they are paid off. Is there any evidence for that besides the fact that they like games you do not like?
Besides, people are more likely to like most games in the early stages before they start to realise the flaws.

Was the slick, expensive, massively hyped GTA IV as much fun or as long lived as the cheap, bug ridden low rent guilty pleasure that was Saints Row 2? Not in my house, anyways, so how could it possibly compare to anything by Bethesda?

Depends on the person, I can hardly stand half an hour of GTA before I become bored and go play some Morrowind.

GTA4 is an awful example of a long lasting game, in fact it's probably one of the quintessential examples of what is wrong with games. It was designed to be beat in less than 24 hours there was even an achievement for it. Granted that is a lot of time for a game of the current generation of consoles but minuscule to games designed for the predecessor machines. Games are designed to be pushed out fast and played to finish just as quick so they can start working on the next title somewhere along the corporate structure it was deemed job security they just want to roll out as many games as possible and hope at least one turns into a blockbuster so they can milk it as a series rather than putting the effort into making a quality game that might flop if it isn't received well initially so making a bunch of flops and having one fluke as a seller is a better strategy profit wise.
GTA 3 and San Andreas were very long games though, would take me and 2-3 other players at least a week or more with us all rotating turns playing it. Although we probably could of done it faster if we had been sober.

GTA was fun for me... I never completed the game never will...

Oblivion... I had beat that so many times its not funny (by beat I mean every single quest I can do) with many differnt characters.

Is GTA my type of game no unless I want a kind of mindless running around shooting stealing cars and killing cops. I reguard this the same as any shooter game. Entertains me for around 100 hours or so then I get bored with it and move opn

RPG games... I still play Morrowind so that says alot... I feel like playing Morrowind now I hate you people >:C

THis is my opinion and im sticking to it.

GTA is not more entertaining than Oblivion. You're passing your opinion off as fact. An opinion that most, if not all people here would disagree with. Rockstar and Bethesda are actually my two favorite game developers. I like GTA and RDR because of the realism, story, and characters. But I love Oblivion for the choices, character building, and RP'ing. Not to mention that it has endless replay value. Until you have atleast 40 hours on Oblivion, I don't think you can even begin to compare it to another game.

I dislike IGN.com.
They give horrible reviews IMO.
Every Elder Scrolls game on that site got 9.5 and lower.
They gave Oblivion a 9.5 because of "Faces are ugly and it doesnt appeal to casual gamers" And they probably never got out of Seyda Neen in Morrowind.

No game is perfect, no game should get a 10/10, especially GTA 4. That was the worst of the Grand theft auto's to me.

And, yes, most people on this forum could indeed play Oblivion for a longer duration than GTA 4 to your surprise.

Interesting I found the generic NPCs, the lack of interesting areas terrible in GTA not to mention the combat was poor (I prefer Morrowinds combat a lot more). GTA is a good game and I respect your opinion but I find it to be one of those overrated games, after I complete the game story I just stopped playing GTA IV all together, whereas 5 years on I'm still playing Oblivion and sometimes even Morrowind.

Elder Scrolls games are GTA with swords and magic. That's what svcked me in initially.

Want to go on a killing spree? I don't need no stinkin' rocket launcher!

My point? They're both equal in terms of stuff you can do, just different genres.

Heh, no. Just no. They are in no way equal. At all. TES have always had endless amount of depth and replay value. If anyone tell me that they have spent more than 600-700 hours on GTA, well then, you have my apologies, but TES just have WAY more replay value.

That's dumb indeed. They should've complained about the level scaling and give it a 9 at most. :P

Those ratings don't mean anything.

Their very vague.

I found Oblivion much more longlasting than GTA. GTA is fun but only so many people you can runover.

GTA is more entertaining than Oblivion = Opinion

Personally I played and beat GTA4.

It was a fun game and deserves the praise it recieved.

I haven't touched it since I beat it. I have no desire to replay it and quite frankly I could easily burn the disc and not give a damn.

I've played Oblivion and Fallout 3, beat both of them.

They were fun and deserve their own respective rewards.

I still go back and play them and If I lost them I'd be quite irritated.

Point to all this you ask?

Answer: Opinions are useless, everyones got'em and most of the time they don't align so for me... Yeah Skyrim will probably be better then GTA4... For you, maybe, maybe not.

If your asking whether I think Skyrim need be influenced by GTA4 I'd say not a chance.

Will Skyrim be better that GTA IV? Most probably.
Better than San Andreas and Vice City? That's something I'll have to wait and see.

This is of course, only my opinion...

As someone who likes both grand theft and elder scrolls... Yes you will likely enjoy skyrim more then ob. Mind you I played grand theft for some 400 hours and ob for well over 800... ob just got off badly but gets more interesting as you go... it realy takes off around hour 40 or so if you play like I suspect you do.. about when you get the gates popping up and are well into a guild quest chain or 2 and some funky stuff starts to happen.

I remember playing grand fleft auto 3 for days just enjoying walking around in stormy weather and beating people I didnt like to death.... or just tooling around listening to the radio as I smooshed random thugs and grannies while keeping an eye out for a realy nice car.

I put more hours into Morrowind or Oblivion separately than I did with all the GTAs combined and Ive played all of them. Once you beat the Story in a GTA its pretty much done for. You can literally put thousands of hours into a TES game. Not to mention GTA really has no replay value.

You can put hundreds of hours into an Elder Scroll game, but you can also play GTA for the same amount of time. Just driving around while listening to radio, doing stunts and discovering new locations. It depends on what entertains you.

Get morrowind... beats oblivion and GTA big time... and that's coming from someone who has GTA San Andreas on his top 20 list..

And I actually enjoyed GTA 4 more than I enjoyed oblivion, even if it was for a shorter time ANd on a [censored] PC port (Rockstar svcks)

BLASHPHEMY :flamethrower:

It's easy to have +100 hours per character in Oblivion. In GTA IV the MQ takes...what...20 hours? I like GTA IV but OB is IMO (and dare I say almost everyone on the forums) a superior game.

Besides who cares what ign or other sites or magaziens rate a game? Great games have had poor ratings and vice versa and GTA IV is slightly overrated, sicne it's well...a GTA
