Thanks for all the thought that went into that post.
Also, an isometric game just came out, Obsidian put it out. It's called Pillars of Eternity. Also Wasteland 2.
Just saying.
the frequency of use I never mind but I do hope they revamped it to make it go with the flow rather then the punch to pacings guts that VATS in FO3/NV is, and yes that might mean using slow-mo to achieve that.
Gotta admit, though, that it does call for more functionality.
I'd rather it be a tactical tool of a creative craftmanship that has an actual gameplay impact and purpose and requires some thought than a superficiality like it is now, or an easy-going bullet time gimmick that seems so popular these days.
VAT is nice for small fast moving enemies or very chaotic scenes.
Replying FO:NV now and only use VAT here as its not as OP as in FO3.
I'm ok with the way it is, but would like to see something like bullet time added so it doesn't completely freeze time. and you actually have to do a little aiming yourself.
VATS are the only thing that diffrentiates Fallouts gunplay from the drones of other shooters.
In fairness, the only thing shooters do well is shooting, so if there's one thing Bethesda could afford to copy from the genre it's that.
But I do think VATS should return in some capacity, albeit different to what was in F3/NV.
... said no Bethesda dev ever.
I feel like we'll be lucky if we still have SPECIAL. Seeing the changes made in character design from OB to Skyrim, removal of classes, attributes, etc. I can't imagine there not being some major changes in store. Granted I think some things needed to be tweaked some, but Bethesda's answer to tweaking something has been to remove it completely.
It only made the game easier in FO3, and that was because they made it broken overpowered. If you were naked and using VATS, you had superior damage resistance to a guy in power armor that didn't use VATS. I'm not even joking.
I'm with you. Make it an active auto-aim that drains action points when you shoot/at a constant rate. The slow-mo should (maybe) be a perk for people that don't really want it to go slow.
Why? Because sometimes its smarter to wait to make a shot than to just fire off a hope that 70% hit rate works in your favor.
Yeah...
...I for once got tired of VATS, hope they bring something different and more compelling this time.
imo I would like if they made Vats a
Everything else, the Targeting business et al Sans the Cinematic Kill cam movie reel I would enjoy
I'm hoping for more depth with Vats this time around, keep the special attacks from New Vegas, have the damage resistance be like 50% or less. I would not want it like Destiny, this is an RPG 1st FPS 2nd, I hope Beth remembers that when they develop this game.
Thought of a few ways to use the same general VATS mechanics as we have now and keep everyone happy.
It would be nice in VATS to always be able to select which body part you want to aim at.
That's because it's your turn, not his. When your turn is over, then he gets his turn to hurt you back.
I never had much trouble with Cazadors. Then again, I try to NOT be in their way, or outright avoid them if I can. Plus, having a good survival to make a lot of Snakebite Tourniquets helps with the poison.
Plus, I said usually, as in there are exceptions.
VATS is godmode. Remove the invulnerability and it's fine.
I wouldn't mind if they scaled down the amount of AP you got and slowed the regeneration, in FO3 it seemed that even with low stats you could spam VATS a ton. I'd kind of want them to scale up SPECIAL to 20 instead of 10 to accommodate it and give you a bit more starting points and more ways to increase it during play. Possibly a soft cap of 20 that you can get from equipped items and general boosts, and a hard cap of 25 that can only be achieved in certain ways, such as temporary boosts with chems.
